My 3 year old has pretty sensitive skin. We bought some sunscreen from him that is all natural and he still broke out, obviously something in it didn't agree with him. He broke out in a rash on his arms that went away by morning so it wasn't too bad, but obviously I need to find something else. I don't want to use Coppertone or anything like that since I don't like using sunscreens with chemicals in them. Can anyone suggest a good all natural sunscreen.

Here's a list of ingredients in the one we used that he had a reaction to.

Thanks!

He probably had a reaction to the Titanium Dioxide.

Try Ocean Potion Gentle & Sensitive Sunblock. It's made especially fro kids and people with sensitive skin. I suggest you try it on a very SMALL patch of skin, like the inside of his arm, the night before you plan to use it outdoors.

A lot of pediatric dermatologists recommend a sunscreen called Blue Lizard. I have a couple of friends whose children have sensitive skin and they both use it.

I have very senstive skin and can't use anything with aloe in it. Sadly, almost all sunscreens seem to have aloe in them. :headache: I get little rashy bumps all over my skin.

I use California Baby products on my daughter. She has outgrown some of her skin issues but they used to be really bad and this line of products worked great. I just went to their website and ordered and had the products within a week.

I see a lot of offenders in the natural product. Calendula is harsh on me. The rose hips oil, strawberry fragrance etc. are probably problematic.

I am VERY sensitive to sunscreen and can use very little. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are the only ones I can use. I have had very good luck this year with the Neutrogena Baby Sunblock for sensitive skin. It has no fragrance in it. Blue Lizard also works for me too. The good news is that they are getting better with sunscreens for people with sensitive skin. I used to have to mail order mine. Stay away from the "natural" products unless they are truly stripped of anything. They tend to use a lot of smelly oils and other products to give the stuff a "natural and herbal/plant" smell.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have heard of it it before so I'll have to try Blue Lizard, we tried Neutrogena and Aveeno last year and both made him break out last year. I like the Absolutely Natural for me, since I have sensitive skin and it didn't make me break out so thought I'd try it for him. All those water proof sunscreens make me break out bad and this worked beautifully and I was excited when I saw they came out with a kids line.

Thankfully my 2 year old didn't have the same problem, but he also doesn't have eczema like his older brother does. I'm just hoping he outgrows this sensitivity.

Neutrogena came out with a new line this year (I read about it in a magazine and was HIGHLY skeptical). I forget exactly what it is called because my son has it with him now and he is in Florida (he has eczema too). They are two new types, one labeled for Sensitive Skin and one labeled for Babies and the tube is a very light pink. They are actually an identical product, just labeled differently. Both are SPF 60. Like you, I had a problem with Neutrogena (and Aveeno) in years past so I was very worried about this one. I've worn it several times now out on my walks and NO REACTION. I usually get welts on my face from sunscreen. You may want to just try it.

I second the Blue Lizard. They actually make a Blue Lizard Baby (we special ordered it from the Walmart pharmacy, but it is pricey...$15.00). Works good on my sensitive skinned two year old.

Cool! I probably get a few different kinds and try them out on him (on different days of course so if he does have a reaction I know which one it is). And then I'll try them when he goes outside since he could have a reaction to one if the sweats with it on. :confused3

Two of my kids are allergic to most sunscreens as well. We have no problems at all with Blue Lizard and No-Ad sunscreens. I get both at either Walmart or, most outdoor supply stores.

My DD has tried tons of suntan lotions, each resulting in a rash of itchy bumps. I have not heard of Blue Lizard, so thanks, I may try that. What I did try was Kiehls, which seemed to work at first, then we got a little itchy. However this year we tried Burts Bees, and so far so good, although its only been a week. I had to order it from their website, but its all natural as well, and seems to be ok.

My son has extreme eczema. Sunscreens that are titanium dioxide based are the only ones he can use. California Baby and Vanicream sunscreens work well for us.
