Children's Menu vs. Adult Menu

I know that if you have a child (3-9), he must order from the children's menu when offered. But what if you have picky eaters -- such as mine -- where my "adult" daughter (age 14) would rather choose off the children's menu instead of the adult menu. We've paid (through the dining plan) the adult price, but she would rather have chicken strips instead of Shrimp Penne Pasta.

Is she allowed to order off the children's menu when using the Dining Plan?

Actually, is she allowed to order off the children's menu if we're paying without a Dining Plan?

I don't have personal experience, but I have recently read posts that said it really depended on the restaraunt. Some places would let you use an adult credit and then give you an "adult" sized portion of the kids item. Hopefully someone will post about an actual experience soon.

I have also read that many places will give you a child meal but an adult sized portion and use the adult credit. The problem is that most places don't offer chicken strips as a child meal anymore. If you've seen the new menus, they usually have a fish, a pizza, a pasta dish (all of these are fixed meals w/ an appetizer and dessert) or the kids picks which are usually steak, grilled chicken breast and perhaps a burger. Not sure how many still have a chicken strips meal for kids.

Again, it will probably be at the discretion of the restaurant what they do.

I have a similar problem with my special needs son who will not try any new foods. He will be 11 when we go and have had to pay the adult dining plan. I am going to make ADR's for mostly buffets where I've been told on the Dis that he will be able to access the adults or childs section, those TS I am planning on going to have something on them that will be suitable (I hope) for him. Good luck with your planning.

Has anyone else had this experience or know if this would be an option? I just can't decide if the DDP will be worth it, if the kids can't choose what they like.

Where can I find current menus to look at?

We had this dilemma last time. DD was 11, so was an 'adult'. I picked restaurants that I knew had food we would all eat.
At CRT, she had the tortellini.
At Bier, CP, H&V, it was buffets.
At LeC, she had steak.
At PHollywood she had ribs
At SciFi she had a burger
At 50PT she had fried chicken.
At WCC she had the skillet.
At all CS she had Chicken Strips!!

You can find restaurants that still have good 'kid friendly adult food'.

She did have the kids desserts at every meal though, more kidish and yummy!

I suspect most restaurants will do the "adult portion of a child meal" thing on request, but not necessarily all. Be flexible, or barring that, to be safe, be prepared for the rare occurance of having to pay cash for something you wanted to use the Dining Plan for.
