I am looking for hats that will cover both the face and neck for my DD5 and DS2. Visors and baseball hats are not enough for my little fair skinned ones. We're trying to avoid sun burned necks. The problem is my DS, the infant sizes are way too small and Boys are way too big. I am not a big online shopper and have checked Wal Mart and Target with no luck. My question is does anyone know a good place to get a hat for the inbetween sizes that will provide good shade? TIA!

I know you said you are not a big online shopper, but look into One Step Ahead catalog or onestepahead.com They have lots of great protective clothing and hats. Good luck- I am fair skinned have 2 fair skinned little ones and I feel your pain! :sunny:

You could try The Children's Place. Either at the mall or on-line. In the past I have gotten DS some very nice hats from there. They come in all sizes and are reasonable. The hats are sizes just like the clothes, not one sizes fits all.

I have very fair skinned children also, so I know how important a good hat can be. My favorite place for hats is Gap. They size them generously (as I think most Gap clothing is sized) and they have a variety of sizes from infant through 5T. The best ones for us have a wide brimmed all around and have a chin strap underneath...we own them in white, denim, and a pink. HTH

Our Target stores have a nice selection of summer kids hats with the visor in the front and the flaps on the neck in both cotton and a swim type fabric. The cotton ones were in the kids clothing/baby department and the swim ones were with the pools/summer toy section.

I have no idea if they still have these or not but 6 or 7 years ago I got 3 awesome hats from Land's End. They are called FLAP HATS. It has a visor with hanging fabric all the way around down to the top of the shoulders. They were made for toddlers but they have some elastic around the brim so they "give" a little. DS7 could still wear them last year. People always ask me "Where did you get that hat?"

**Edited to add: I just checked LLbeans website & they have a great hat for kids called the SUN PROTECTOR HAT. I wish I'd seen it before today...we leave for WDW tomorrow! DS8 could use a bigger sized hat.

I found a hat at target for my DD (9 months) that is a UV hat. It looks like it is made out of swimsuit material. It is big and floppy and covers her head (still bald! :goodvibes ) and her neck too.

IMO, bucket hats are the best option for keeping the sun off face and neck.
Bucket Hat at Childrens place
Childrens place has toddlers sizes so you arent limited to infants or child. My big-headed ds1, had to go to boys sizes already at 2 1/2 and was wearing toddler sizes by 6 months.

I just had to comment.
Both my kiddies are big heads too! My son was wearing toddler hats as an infant and boys as a toddler. Now he is 6 and wearing grown up baseball hats! I just bought him a Mickey one at the Disney store and sure enuff, it is a mens hat!
My DD is almost 9 months and already wearing the 24 month size hat! :goodvibes
Big heads mean there is more room for their big brains! :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 Thank you all!!! Guess we will be hitting the mall to find one. As for Target, I tried on every hat they had for both boys and babies and couldn't find one the right size. They all seemed to hop from teeny tiny to way too big. I am not an online shopper ( I know I know 21st century! :rotfl: ) but will see what we can find at the mall. Again thank you for the help!

One more quick thought...I get hats for DS and DD at Old Navy. They often have ones with brims to keep the sun off of faces and necks.

Also...polo shirts are better than t-shirts for necks, since the collar sits up higher.

And for a cheesy 80's look, you can even turn the collar up! :cool1:

Just bought the best hat for my DS (6)-- has that oversized head too! It was was at DSW shoes. Lightweight nylon, with SPF 30 fabric. with a long flpa to cover the neck and a drawstring to put it tighter. In safari colors, beige, dark tan and olive green. 19.50, but if it works it will be well worth it! I think the brand was Columbia.
Good Luck! princess:
