Children's Books

Saffron:
I feel the same way. It's so sad to see the books you worked so hard to pay for become swords in Superman vs Batman!! In the past, I have worked REALLY hard to help my kids understand how special books are and how to treat them. Anyone have any suggestions on how to protect your precious literature? My one college prof said to cover all the paperbacks with contact paper. I asked her if she was going to take an extra 25 hours and help me :rotfl: Plus, that still wouldn't help with the pages.

Marseeya:
You mean Donny R Is????? (Read with a thick 'Picksburgh' accent :rotfl: )
I love my Slippery Rock !! ;) They have some GREAT concerts now. Have you seen their lineup? I wish I still went there.

Mickey65:
Thanks for the good luck wishes! I love Pre-K/Kindergarten age. I am so glad that I went to school a little longer and added an ECE cert because most states now are requiring that you have that to teach below 3rd grade.

I second The Read Aloud Handbook and Scholastic Book Club suggestions.

Love the books suggested,
Also:
All the fairy tales.........3 bears, 3 pigs, 3 billy goats (lots of threes)
Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes
All Alan Baker Little Rabbit books..........very cute rabbit learns colors, shapes, sorting, counting, ABCs in fun ways
Frog and Toad books........very gentle tales of friendship and getting along
I'll Fix Anthony
Alexander and the Terrible, HOrrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
Bashi, Elephant Baby
Verdi
Stellaluna
Mouse Count (counting up and down) and Mouse Paint (colors)
Looking Through Shapes at Apples and Grapes
The Land of Many Colors (tolerance)
Dick and Jane books..........they are very likeable for little ones, and some will begin recognizing the words
BOB books-------good, small phonics readers, they are wonderful for beginning readers, and funny for all
Jamberry
All the Little Critter books
Heck, just all of Mercer Mayer period.

I love anything by Dr Seuss. My favorites are "The Cat in the Hat", "Horton hears a who", and "One Fish, Two Fish".
Some of my other favorites are "Where the Wild things are", and "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom".

That's what my college said and recommended too, so I had a double major, ECE and Elementary Ed. That's how I fell in love with Preschool - mandatory classroom time in Preschool or Pre-K! :cloud9: I thought I wanted to teach either third or fifth grade, but once I had to spent a semester with Preschool, I was hooked. :cloud9:

I am so glad to hear another person feels the same way I do.
When it first came out and people were going crazy for it, I would say it kinda creeped me out and people would look at me like I had two heads. (maybe there are others - we could start a club)

The I DO Love You Forever, but not in a way that will make you consider a restraining order Club.
;)

I forgot:
"Stand back!" Said the Elephant, "I'm Going to Sneeze!".........my kids always cracked up on that one, and it's got great vocabulary
Frances the little badger deals with child issues like bedtime, cheating......
Beatrix Potter's Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher, Apply Dapply's Nursery Rhymes, Tale of Miss Moppet, Tale of Benjamin Bunny, Tale of Peter Rabbit, Tale of a Fierce Bad Rabbit, and Tale of Tom Kitten.......all good cautionary tales
City Mouse and Country Mouse helps with perspective
The Little House.............change and time

Just wanted to update everyone:
:cheer2: I GOT THE JOB!!!!!! :cheer2:

Thanks so much for all the suggestions and well wishes. Now I'm actually REALLY nervous! I've never set up a room from scratch before. I don't know how to structure the day. I need to start thinking about discipline tools, room arrangement, special things like 'star of the week,' my head is spinning. Plus, all these kids have spent the past month in someone else's classroom with kids with whom they have formed their first friendships. They are 5, they are routine oriented, and now I'm going to up and change that routine. Yikes! Help! I'm scared :)

Congratulations!

Take a deep, slow breath, in through your nose and out through your mouth. :teeth:

You'll be okay, promise! Just go in there with confidence, knowing you ARE prepared even though you are a bit nervous, they are 5 they adjust quickly, then take in another slow, deep breath, let it out and have a GREAT time making "their" classroom a classroom that belongs to all of you, with you as the captain of the ship! pirate:

Best of luck to you!

Thanks girls! I know I'll be ok. Just a little overwhelming to anticipate. :earseek:

completely understandable...although not the same thing, over the summer, i was the lead teacher in a class of 6-10 year olds...it was just for a summer camp, but we had lesson plans and all...it was scary at first but it all worked out fine!
