My son just got glasses for the first time last night. We opted for the two pair special because for

1) he's an acitve boy
2) he's also a kid

Is there anything you can think of? He needs to wear them all the time, so trying to find clips for overtop sunglasses are challenging. He also has the straps for rides--we're going to WDW next week!

Any thing you can think of? He looks so cute like a little professor or something like that.

Well, I've been wearing glasses since I was 1.5 years old. My son also wears glasses. We've never had a problem with his glasses but I have always spent the extra money for the frames that bend & flex but then spring right back into the correct shape.

I think your son will do great. It's much easier if he wears them all the time. My son only wears his for distance so he tends to take them off & let them lay around the house.

Have a wonderful trip!! Sounds like you're well prepared!!

My oldest DD started wearing glasses in 1st grade. She's never had a problem but she really needed them so wore them constantly. The safest place is on their face ;) , I broke my first pair by sitting on them  My DD wasn't really active but we did get some of the neck straps if we were doing something that might cause them to come off.

We were never able to find clip on sunglasses that worked well, the only ones that are really nice are the ones you can get special ordered. My DD started wearing contacts last year and was so excited to finally be able to pick out a pair of sunglasses she liked :)

My DS has worn them all of the time since he was in the third grade. He is a very active kid too & the best thing we did was buy the extra long guarantee.............believe me I used it A LOT!

Another second here for the guarantee! Our DD has had glasses since she was a year old. It was really hard to keep them on her! They were constantly getting lost and broken. We even strapped them on, and she could still take them off. By the time she was 5, she did much better with them. The biggest problem is that they bend them up all the time, and they need constant adjustment.

Our neighbor/DS's friend is 6 and has had them for about 2 or 3 years. A few days ago he came over to our pool and he had a brightly colored, plastic (I think waterproof) case for them. Something like that might come in handy around the pool area for you.

Thanks.. he has two case, one being a bright blue one.
The sunglasses things are a pain as well..

But my son had a hard time wanting to wear them to camp today... he's 8 years old and on the sensitive side.

I didn't force the issue, but told a counselor about it.. (he wears glasses too!), and maybe, just maybe he'll have them on when I pick him up.

He did fine wearing them at home and at Target last night.

My dd Ashli has had glasses/contacts since she was about 10 yrs old. We've bought the insurance every time and we've used it every time at least once. It was really hard to get Ashli to keep her glasses on all the time at first and that is when the glasses are most likely to be crunched, scratched up, etc. The second most likely time is when she was playing sports. Soccer and basketball seemed to be especially hard on glasses for us. They get knocked off their face or bent up across their nose if they take a ball to the face.

Are the cases the hard snap shut cases? Can you get one set of the lenses slightly tinted to wear as sunglasses?

I'm 33 yo and I still have a problem wearing my glasses in public. I thought I lost one of my contacts this morning and panicked because I thought I'd have to wear my glasses.

Does your ds look like Harry Potter with his glasses on?:)

We didn't opt for the tints this time... I had those years ago, and I hated them!

Actually he got the Harry Potter line of frames... not exactly the same ones as Harry, but I think they are cool.

He got a silver/gray frame with oval lens shape, and another was a brown frame with a slightly larger oval shape.

He tried on the ones that Harry wears.. and he promptly called them ugly!

DD's last pair were the frames that bend and flex - I noticed that they need lots more adjustments over a year - she was able to get 2 - 3 years out of that frame - the last two pairs came with the clips that are fitted for the frame - she loves them - as I do too

The new frames that we just got look just like Harry Potter's and they came with the clips -

My son got some clip on sungalsses at walmart down in orlando he was 9 then , this is the only pair we found that fix his glasses and looked good.

Yes, we tried the Targets here,, (three of them in my area) and they didn't have many clips left.

I might have to try Walmart just to see, the newer Walmart did not have it!

My son just got his first pair this Spring for distance, but he wears them all the time. My biggest advice is to make him in a habit of using the case ALL the time when he takes them off. Scratches can happen anytime, and this will help avoid them. His glasses are in the "shop" already this week from scratches, but because we got them at Costco it is covered for one year.

DS has been wearing glasses since he was 14 months. He is now almost 13. He is very active. When we go to WDW we put a sunglasses stringy thing on his glasses and I used to run it through the loop on the back of his shirt in case the glasses flew off. In all they years we've gone to WDW and 6 flags we have never had the glasses fly off. Now he is in contacts so it doesn't matter too much anymore. I bought him frames that have the sunglasses, magnetic, clip on with them. I never found clip ons that worked too well.

I big lesson I learned is to always carry a glasses repair kit with me so you can replace a lost screw if a lens pops out. We almost had an e-night ruined several years ago because DS glasses lost a screw. Luckly, Main Street Jewelers was still open and had both very tiny screw drivers and screws.

For the screws, use a drop of clear nail polish when you screw them back in. Works great to keep them screwed in placce. My daughter had lenses that go from clear to dark instead of sunglass clips. Much better in the Florida sun. She's worn glasses since age 5 and is now 25. Has contacts but prefers her glasses unless she is performing.

DS has been wearing glasses, bifocals no less, since he was 2. He has always been very good about it and he has to have his glasses the first thing he wakes up. The first pair of frames were "flexon" which had a 2 year warranty--they never broke, but when we went for a checkup before the warranty expired the optician replaced them free because the metal was getting pockmarked, so he got a new pair for the price of lenses. I did order the sunglass clip that fits onto the frames which cost $40, but for those Disney trips it is well worth it. I just slip the clip into my fanny pack when he is inside.
I bought him a pair of "sports glasses" now without the close vision part so he can see the soccer ball. We switch back and forth in the car before practice and just keep the sports glasses in my console.
We just had a 4month checkup yesterday. He is doing very well. He had amblyopia (sp?) and his eyes were turning without the glasses, plus he is farsighted. He may grow out of it about jr. high time. He had surgery on both eyes last summer.
