Children under 3?

Eh. And it's not as if on a kid's 3rd birthday, they suddenly grow five inches and their brain takes a developmental leap.

Another big increase is when a child goes from 9 to 10 and starts paying as an adult but still eats like a child (probably for a couple more years :-( )

I wouldn't lie in front of my children or make them lie. How would you expect your child to be truthfull if you are teaching him/her different?

Just saying, about the different rates per age group...

IMHO the ranges should go up to 4 and 12

One important exception to note is the AIRPORT!!!

IF you are traveling with a 'lap' child on an airplane, the airlines can be very NASTY about requiring some for of ID for the child! It does not have to be a full birth certificate, but they do DEMAND to see Id sometimes. TOehrwise they threaten to charge you FULL FARE at last minute prices!
It is not TSA, but the airline employees themselves when you go to check bags or a baby carseat/stroller!

It is actually a FAA rule that they must have proof that a child is young enough to be a lap child. If the airline does not check and something happens... well, the airline would be in a lot of trouble.

If you are flying with a lap child, no matter how young they are, you will be asked for ID (the vast majority of times because we all know that all companies have some bad employees). If you can not provide it, then you will be required to purchase a seat on the plane. Since it is last minute that seat will most likely be at full fare.

Nothing wrong with it. Follow the rules and you will be okay.

A lot of these posts are making me wish Disney did ask for a birth certificate or some sort of proof of age. It is a shame Disney can't rely on people being honest..

I agree. People like to take advantage of things when they can. It is sad. It doesn't matter if it is expensive. That is just an excuse. If you can't afford to go and pay for the child, then you can't afford to go. Take another year and save up. But to lie... it is a shame.

We have never been questioned about our little kids ages at Disney (World or Land) but they run on the small side. I have no issues if other people want to risk taking their three year old into the parks and pretending they are two. That is their risk (and Disney's), not mine. But, I wouldn't do it because there is noooo way that my 3 year old is going to listen to me tell someone they are not yet 3. As it is my 2 year old tells everyone he is 5. How embarrassing would it be for me to lie about it only to have my 3 year old bust me out?

When we went for one day back in 2011, my oldest was doing the BBB at DTD (so over 3 obviously and closer to 4 - but she's always been on the small side), my DH went to buy our tickets. HE had our not quite 2 year old with him and he TRIED to buy a ticket for DD, saying it was another kid not with him, and they told him not to worry about it. So when we went to MK, my DD had been to the BBB (but she'd insisted on taking her hair down), and we only had two adult tickets, no one said a word. We tried and they wouldn't take our money. Considering they were one day tix, we were happy to save the money.

This is EXACTLY what I've been saying for years. I will fully admit that I lied about my daughter being under 3, when she had turned three a few weeks before our trip, so cast the stones as necessary, BUT...my just turned 10 year old daughter eats like a bird. There is NO WAY she'll be eating an adult portion anywhere. It makes me question whether or not we'll even do the dining plan the next time we go. It may make it more beneficial for us to pay OOP.

This is my opinion, too.
Taking our family to the parks is no bargain, but I just wouldn't lie. I just couldn't sell my integrity for a couple hundred dollars.

My experience has been that cast members ask the child his age and take the child at his word. I had a purchased ticket for my three year old which the CM would not take. The CM asked my kid how old he was, and he said he was two. I corrected him--"no, baby, you just turned three." He argued that he was two, and the CM says they are told to take the child's word. He went in free.

I do not know if its a state or provider thing but my twins health insurance cards have there birthdays and that is what show when asked at the airport or what not.

That was the deciding factor for me on the dining plan. With my 10 year old daughter, it just doesn't make sense anymore.

I do not know if its a state or provider thing but my twins health insurance cards have there birthdays and that is what show when asked at the airport or what not.

Our health insurance cards don't even have My DH's/DS's *names*, let alone birthdates! It drives me crazy because people at new doctors' offices always try to tell my husband they can't take his card because it doesn't have his name on it (I'm the primary). Every year we get 2 new cards that only have my name and account and group numbers--no info about other beneficiaries.
