Can older kids order from the kids menu? Our 13 year old is not very adventurous and will be better suited to the kids menu, I had even thought to order two portions, the second her brother and her could split, when the kid ones are too small.

In all counter service restaurants (any place where you're not waited on) you can definitely order any meal you want, no matter your age. :)

People with kids can confirm, but I've heard you can ask for double portions of a kids' meal at a sit-down restaurant and they'll bring it and double the price. So if that's still an option, that would be similar to what you're thinking.

We just got home on Saturday - we had 2 different experiences with this during our stay (my 11 year old daughter didn't really like the offerings on the adult menu, but the child's menu serving sizes were too small). At Carthay Circle, they doubled her portion on the kids menu but charged us for an adult meal (of a somewhat equivalent meal), they also did this at the Blue Bayou. When we went to Wine Country Trattoria they charged us for 2 kid meals. I'm not sure if there is a set way to handle it at each restaurant or if it just depends on the wait staff at the time.

Wonder if I could just flat out order two kids meals rather then having them double them? I would think that would be cheaper too? Nice to know the option is there though...this is our first trip where kid meals are really not an option for our oldest two...second one would happily order from the adult menu...but the first child is pretty staid in her choices.

What they commonly do is serve double the portion, and they double the price.

In our case it would have been cheaper (by approx $10) if they had just doubled the kids price rather than charge for an adult meal - but that's just not what they did at two of the restaurants. Perhaps because the two that charged us the adult prices were more of the high end/more expensive places is why they did it that way - just to make sure people don't take advantage and try to get a cheaper meal? I don't know... I should have asked if I could just order two separate kid meals - maybe that would have worked! In any event, they do do their best to accommodate and they always were very understanding.
