Help, I have just booked for my 8 year old DD and I to go to WDW at the end of January FRee Dining? My daughter is that age where she sometimes wants to eat off the adult menu. I have seen a similar thread about upgrading your child to an adult and paying the adult ticket price.

On our last trip I upgraded to the Dx DP and the servers at several places told us DXDP does not differentiate between child and adult, however the dining plan rules state differently. My daughter wants to eat at lots of table service restaurants, as do I, but she likes to have the choice of both menus.

So I'm trying to decide if I just pay oop for her on some meals or upgrade us to Dx plan.

Has anyone else had any experience with children on the deluxe plan and whether or not the child was restricted to only the kids menu?

there will be an issue if you pay OOP for table service meals for her as you will have leftover "child" credits. my children have been "disney adults" for a while and they sometimes order meals from the child side of the menu, much to the amazement of the servers as we are not "utilizing our credits wisely", however this is vacation....

The credits on the DxDDP aren't differentiated in the computer system but children are still supposed to be limited to the kids menu and most servers will check your KTTW to determine your party size & make-up before you order. At counter service you'll sometimes find CMs that will ignore the adult/child notation on the card and suggest/mention that everyone could order adult meals, but it isn't likely at table service restaurants. In 3 trips on the DxDDP we've only had it happen once, and that was a CM who really didn't seem to understand the plan IMO.

Thank you, that's what I thought I think we just got lucky last time. I called Disney and the CM suggested we put my DD as 10, pay for the adult park ticket and then she can eat off both. Then if I choose to book more table service meals I'll just pay for them oop, I did the math and it's cheaper than upgrading her to the adult DxDP.

I just can't risk her being told she can't have steak!! :)

I'd decide after making your ADRs. There are several places that have steak on the kids meal (even if it isn't listed on the menu). My kids were able to order a kid's steak at Captains Grille for example even though it wasn't actually listed on the menu. Also for buffet and family style meals she can eat adult or kids items.

We did the deluxe DDP with DS at age 4, 5, and 6. DS was able to eat whatever he wanted at buffets and family style meals. At other restaurants, he always ordered from the kids menu... while we never asked for him to order from the adult menu... we have asked for special items and were not charged... We always get him a big dish of Florida strawberries (so sweet), sometimes 2. And he likes veggies so we ask for any veggies they can whip up (green beans, peas, broccoli, etc.). On the DDP, it seems most restaurants are very willing to make us happy (bigger tip!). At Flying Fish Cafe this year, the waiter suggested we get DS an adult appetizer.

The kids menus are sometimes limited... it doesn't hurt to ask... On deluxe DDP with appetizers, entrees, desserts... it's a lot of food for us... DW and I always end up sharing (and try to get DS to eat different things) and sometimes order appetizers that DS might like.

Closing this thread as it is about purchasing adult meals on the child's plan.
