Children losing Magic Bands??

I know my kids and I can totally see them losing their Magic Bands. I could see them pulling it on and off, my one year old chewing on it, etc. What does Disney do if your band goes missing? I really hate the idea of having to carry around my 3 kids MBs; that seems alot harder than having to carry around a paper FP for all 3.

My DD lost hers on the Space Mountain ride. We promptly went to Guest Services, and they gave her a generic gray one, and removed my info from the pink one and put it on the gray one. Easy. The pink one has yet to be found, and it was lost in August. I keep calling lost and found just in case.

No worries.

We were there in August with three families. Everyone single person absolutely loved the bands! We had spent our first couple of days at Universal where we had to carry our ticket and our Front of the line passes and MB were so much easier. We loved the whole experience FP+, dining plan on the tickets...everything.

Granted we had no small children but the bands were not that easy to take off. Why would the one year old even have one since he is free? If he does, I would just have attached it to my bag strap. Not sure how old the older kids are but if they need one they would be at least 3 so I would immediately let them choose a pack of jibbitz to decorate them up and then I would tell them that if they take it off they will have a one hour time out. Since it will take that long probably to go to Guest Services and get it replaced.

Honestly, it's so easy to over-plan until you start to worry about every possible scenario that might mar your trip. With 3 kids over tired melt downs or someone getting sick is much more likely. Wearing Magic bands isn't something to worry about.

My 5 years old had no problems keeping the bands on. The first couple days they asked to take them off after a few hours so I attached them to my bag. After that they got use to them

OK, thanks for the tips. The one year old needs a Magic Band for FP? Or does he not need that either? How much are the gibbets? Haven't heard about this. Did you size your MB down for the kids? Mine are 7, 5, and 1. I will most likely take one year olds band and hook it on our bag.

Babies do get a MB so long as they are in MDE, I have seen many people post that their babies got one and as a pp said, a lot of them just put it around their diaper bag strap.
We didn't bring our younger two, but I was worried about our older two losing them. My then 7 year old did try to take it off and play with it several times, we just really emphasized that it had to stay on their wrist until we got back to our room and then they could take it off (and we designated a spot or them so that the kids wouldn't just take them off and set them anywhere leaving us trying to find them in a hurry). I have seen little bands you can put around them that seem as though they might prevent kids taking them off, I think they are called Band Its....

Just got back from a trip with a 2 and 5 year old. As a PP said, everyone on a reservation gets a MB, even babies. Which was a good thing, because the 2 year old would have thrown a hissy fit if she didn't have one like her big brother :rotfl2: (Also, the CMs are very sweet and let her scan hers all the time, and told her what a great job she did turning the Mickey blue.)

Anyway, back to the question, I did ask at checkin what happens if they get lost, and the CM assured us that if we report it, they'll deactivate the lost band immediately and we can get a new one.

We stressed to our kids that if they took off their bands they were to give it immediately to a parent. They were actually really good with it. The two year old coudln't get it off herself, so that was easy enough to keep track of. The 5 year old could def get his off, but he did a great job giving it to me or DH right away when he tool it off. He happily wore it most of the days, but there were 3 or 4 times during the trip when he wanted it off in the park. No biggie, we just threw it in DH's pocket and off we went.

My son was 4 on our last trip which was our first one with the bands. For the most part he was good about it. By day 3 or 4, (of 8) he did take it off a couple of times. I wasn’t surprised because he had something on both wrists. His “If I’m lost” ID band was on his other arm. I tried his ankle for that one like the previous trip; but, he had grown too big for it to fit there. That one he absolutely could not remove.

Thankfully I noticed it the first time he did it and told him if he didn’t want it on, he had to give it to me. This is something he’s really experienced doing with whatever he is tired of carrying. So a couple of times a day after that, I’d hear “mama here” and see a little hand sticking out from under the stroller shade holding the band out. Only thing was he loved touching it to the Mickey heads; so, whenever we approached a fast pass point, he’d want it back.

We were there last week with my tiny 2yo nephew. My brother and SIL put his around his ankle and he didn't pay any attention to it. He didn't technically need it as he's under 3 but wanted it like the others.

I see a lot of families put the tinier ones on their legs.

If you are worried about having them take it on and off get the magic band fabric covers. They would make it harder for the kids to take them on and off.

My daughter didn't loose her magic band, my husband did...at Blizzard Beach. He didn't even know it was missing, I did, and only because he had a nasty cut on his elbow. So, caution at the water parks. Easily lost there. We went to lost and found, never showed up. Did see there huge box full of lost magic bands. Anyway, went back to hotel and got the grey generic one. Deleted the info on the old one. The magic bands for the little ones can be made smaller. We were sitting outside waiting for my husband to pick us up and a cast member saw my daughter messing with hers. I don't know exactly what she did but she made it smaller and it was much better for my daughter to wear.

To make it smaller you just pull the gray plastic off. I believe it says so on the back of the band.

My father-in-law lost his, after we'd been at Disney for a whole two hours. No idea how it happened, but the CMs at the hotel front desk replaced it with a standard gray one within minutes.

On our last trip, my kids didn't lose theirs, but I lost mine! Mostly because I had all 3 of ours in my purse and we were pulling them in and out, mine must have fallen. Carrying the bands, plus everyone's RFID card = PITA. I miss the much thinner tyvek cards.
