Children Die in Hope Chest

A brother and sister from my hometown recently died after accidently being locked in a Hope Chest made by The Lane Company. I just wanted to post this to everyone here to make sure if they have one of these Hope Chests in their home to PLEASE check and see that it's not one that locks and cannot be opened from the inside. Lane issued a recall and has been replacing locks on these for years but the last time they announced the recall was in 2006. You can still contact The Lane Company to get a replacement lock. Even if you don't have children I recommend you replace the lock anyway. Considering most people purchase these at yard sales and antique stores it's quite possible yours will be sold in the future. It's such a heartbreaking story as this family lost 2 of their 5 children.
