Children and finger scans when entering parks.

Our 4.5 year old has had her pass since January and she just had to add a finger print yesterday! They suggested that my husband add his finger as well but he said no.

We are at Disney right now. My 5 year old has had to scan his finger. I just assumed he was just like everyone else. I made sure I helped him scan it the first time so I knew which one was scanned. The only problem he has had problems with is putting his finger all the way in. They need shorter scanners, so they can reach it. My husband said they need to make the scanner vertical, that way kids can reach it easier. Plus the kids that are in strollers don't have to get out to reach it.

Ugh. We have season passes to a water park that uses the same finger scan technology, and makes the kids scan too. The first few times, DS's finger scanned fine. By the end of the summer it never worked and we always had to wait for a manager to come override. I suspect that he had enough of a growth spurt to throw it off.

We have 16 days of NE tickets that we are very slowly working our way through. I guess there's no chance that his finger scan will work after a year or more between visits. And we often split up, so I definitely don't want his ticket attached to only myself or DH.

Hopefully they can just take a picture. Though at the rate we are using the tickets...they may have to recognize a 10 year old by his picture as a 5 year old, lol!

It's not just you. We are here now and my 5 year old did not have to finger scan until the second time she used her ticket. They have linked my finger to her ticket because we could not get hers to trigger a second time (I know it was the right finger too because I helped her do it the first time).

We always split up and enter with our kids without the other adult. Scanning my finger for my kids would be so pointless

I am following this thread as we are headed down in a month I am really hoping this changes by the time we get there. I do not not want to have my 5 year old scan his finger every time . 2 years ago my husbands finger wouldn't even scan properly. He even told the cm hey look it ain't going to work I have psoriasis on my hands. If adults are going to have issues you know the kids are. Oh look there is a crumb on that finger that wasn't there this morning. Denied blue Mickey.

In May 2015, they had DD (then 7) try to do the finger scan every day, and at every park (8 park days with PH). Her finger only worked once (on the first day). Several CMs said it was bc her fingers are so small (I'm not sure if that's the actual reason it didn't work, but she is very petite).

We repeatedly told the CMs that her fingers don't scan properly, but they still kept having her try. Each time it didn't work, they had DH scan his finger instead of hers AND they took her pic w an iPad. I guess I never thought about me not being able to take her into the park myself instead of DH since he scanned his finger.

I went in June with my kids (teens) and my friend with her 2 kids (9 and 8) they made all of us finger scan. While her daughter is 8, she's very petite and is more the size of an average 5 year old girl. She had trouble at every park and had to be reset every time. At one park they had her mom scan for her. Well that went OK until our last day when my friend and her son were tired and ready to go back to the room and get ready to leave the next morning and my 2 teen sons wanted to fit in as many rides as possible and hop over to MK for the last hour. Her daughter was not ready to end her vacation and came with us. When we arrived at MK, of course she turned blue and I just told the CM her mom has been scanning her finger and she's not with us this time. I believe they had also taken a picture of her at one of the many failed scan in days. They reset her and let us in. It was no problem at all. It was a little annoying to have to deal with this every time we entered a park, but honestly it took them less than a minute to fix it each time.

regards

I'm not sure that it's the fault of the adults; this biometric scanning is subject to all sorts of glitches. The Universal bio-scanners give me trouble. A scan technician suggested the middle finger for scans. After I switched fingers, the glitches oddly went away.
I wonder if that has to do with using your pointer finger (assuming that's the one most choose) and the fact that we use our pointer fingers for so many things.

Hmmmm. Maybe having the parent use a finger does not cause any issues if there is a crowd waiting.

If your used your finger the last time then you use your finger again. Otherwise you start with your child inserting his own finger.

Now, if the child's scan fails blue and the CM suggests that you the parent try a finger then you do not say anything. Most likely the CM just reset the ticket so your finger will work immediately. You don't need to suggest whether your child's finger failed because it was too small or failed because your spouse used a finger the previous day.

Do not lick (or allow your child to lick) a finger prior to scanning. You don't want to catch some dreaded disease from germs picked up from the tram seat or the bus/monorail stanchion or your room doorknob or the handles of a purse.

We've been here for a week so far and no one has asked my daughter to scan her finger yet. She's 9. Also, I found it easier to remember which finger I scanned if I use my thumb on the same hand as my band.

*Update Edit*
Today at EPCOT (8/30) they had her scan her finger for the first time. She was actually thrilled about it.

We are here right now and they made my 7 year old son scan his finger when we went into Epcot which the first park we went to. To be honest, I was busy and didn't even realize they made him scan his finger. The next day when we went to MK, his finger wasn't working because he had no clue (nor did I) which finger he scanned, so the CM made me scan my finger. He said "are you going to be with him everytime he enters the park?, and I said yes and then I scanned my finger.

Thanks! This was the exact reason I posted....I wanted to make sure it wasn't just us since not everyone around us was asked to scan their kids' fingers and we thought it was odd they'd ask for a parent's finger instead. Enjoy the rest of your trip! My kids are still feeling sad our trip is over!!

Great. DD's three so I assume one of us will have to scan our finger for her. I don't see us not going to the parks together, but it will be a pain if one of us takes her without the one who use their finger.

We were at Disney World last week and the finger scanning process for my 3 year old granddaughter was a pain every time we went into the parks. I went with my son, his fiancée and my granddaughter, my husband and my other son. Sometimes my husband and I would take her into the parks, sometimes her parents took her into the parks and a few times my other son took her into the parks. Every time we went into the park we had to explain the situation to the cast member and then wait for the iPad person to come and change the fingerprint for us. One of the people with the iPads insisted that she take a picture of my granddaughter to have on file to prove that we were only bringing my granddaughter in and not using it for multiple kids. Another time the person at the fingerprint machine called over a manager. The manager was clearly irritated by the new policy saying "She's a kid. Why are they doing this? She is just a little kid. Let her through."

I was really put off by being told that they needed to take a picture of my granddaughter to prove we were not bringing in multiple kids. The way it was said sounded like the woman was accusing us of trying to sneak multiple kids in.

There was also another time when my husband and I brought my granddaughter in where we were told we had to go to guest relations to show our ID. I showed them my ID and they checked the reservations to make sure I was associated with her hotel room. Luckily I made the reservations for both our room and my son's room. After that the guest relations person got an iPad person to come over and escort us back to the fingerprinted so they could reset the fingerprint again.

We were not given the option for my granddaughter to try scanning her finger. The only option was an adult.

We were there two weeks ago and my 8 year old never had to scan. But it was still a pain even with my 11 year old. My husband or I weren't paying attention and he couldn't remember what finger he scanned. Then half the time he wouldn't have it sitting on the scanner correctly. Generally we were entering the parks at less busy times so we weren't holding up a line, but what a PITA. Finally by the end of the week everything seemed to be working smoothly.

We're going next week and will see what happens with my 7yo.

Sadly I'm guessing this has been brought on by parents who use the same band for more than one child and/or sell extra days to others once they leave the park.

I have a feeling my DD will enjoy doing this as she's often asked why she doesn't get to scan her finger. With the heads up here I think I may paint her one nail to help her remember for the first few days which finger she is going to use.

This is my nightmare for next May, except for 3 kids plus an infant. On any given day one of 4 adults will be the nearest person to one of 4 kids.

My son is two and obviously he didn't get a park ticket but he did get a magic band, will he still have to scan his finger? He's not going to like it...
