Hey guys! I havent had the chance to post in a while. I have a question for you though! What is the average cost for after school and summer day care in Florida? Esp in the Orlando area?? We are looking to relocate next year and have always had family to help... We have been very fortunate but just need to get out of this area. Thanks so much for any advice or information you can give. BTW I have 2 children that are both 6. Again thanks so much!

:D

I have no direct experience with this, but I have heard that some day cares in our state can charge about $500 per child per month! It sounds insane to me, but I suppose it's possible!

Maybe you could somehow contact the Chamber of Commerce in Orlando/your city and get some phone numbers for some reputable centers and call directly. Or even check online, I bet the information is out there. You could try the Orland Sentinel home page (I haven't actually been there but it must exist) or even just the Yellow pages on Yahoo.

Good luck, and Ihope it is cheaper than what I've heard!

I found this information on the Orange County Public Schools site:

Most elementary schools offer Extended Day Enrichment program operated by Orange County Public Schools. Some elementary programs are operated by other community entities. Contact the elementary school office for specific information.

Weekly fees (Effective August 1, 2003)

Morning Only: 1st and 2nd child $15, each additional child $10
Afternoon Only: 1st and 2nd child $30, each additional child $25
Morning & Afternoon: 1st and 2nd child $40, each additional child $35
Summer Full Day: 1st & 2nd child $80, each additional child $75
Teacher Workday/Student Holiday: $16 per day per child

You might also check with the Central Florida YMCA:

http://www.centralfloridaymca.org/programs/afterschool.shtml

They run after school programs and summer programs at many of their Orlando area branches.

Osceola County school site didn't list anything about after-school care, but I would imagine most of the schools offer it.

thank you so much for that information. The OC schools are where we are looking. I have tried the sentinel and do web searches. Unfortunately its always call for more info. I work in an office with a call center so its hard for me to call out for info like that and when i get home its too late. Again Thank you so much!!
