If I get my DS6 an adult plan (I am on free dining so not much more of a charge) will he be able to order a kids meal with an adult credit on those days when that is what he wants?

Yes an adult credit can buy a child menu item. Don't forget if you upgrade his meal,s you also have to upgrade his park tickets

Perhaps you need to determine how many adult meals vs kids meals he will eat. Your dining plan is free, but as PP said, in order to get him on the adult plan, you have to buy him the adult park ticket. So, can you pay OOP for the adult meals he wants for cheaper than the adult ticket?

The price difference between adult and child tickets is only like $25.

I attempted to change my 9yr old daughters plan to the adult plan - I was basically told its not possible as the Free DDP offer I had is from last year and it has now expired. If she tried to make any changes to the Plan it would charge full price for my daughter. Its a shame as I think she will be bored with the menus they provide for kids now that I have seen all the menus.

Call back and talk to another CM. Twice when we've been on free dining we've added people. The first time I had originally booked with my mom, but she changed her mind, so I dropped her from the reservation, then about a month out my husband decided to go. I was able to add him with no problem. Even though I was within the 45 day mark I didn't get charged a change fee because adding his one day ticket caused the price to go up (we're AP holders so didn't really need park tickets and at that time only one day park tickets were needed to get free dining). The second time I had booked the trip for my husband and me. About two months out my mom decided she wanted to go. Again I was able to add her without a problem and all three of us got free dining.

Definitely call back as pp suggested. I booked our August Free Dining trip back in December....Upgraded my 9 year old to a 10 year old about a month ago and also added 2 nights to the end of my stay (after I got my final air tickets). I kept free dining for the whole time....

Call back. Some people are getting CMS that tell them this when they're just trying to pay to upgrade their dining plan. You should definitely be able to make an alteration like that or like changing a child's age without losing the promotion.

Remember you can't just add a 9 year old to the adult plan - you have to change their age on the reservation to 10.

As for the original question - probably yes, but at some times you may encounter a server who tells you the kid has to order from the adult menu if they have adult credits. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to this, but there have been multiple reports that the Plaza Restaurant, for one, does this. Also ask about larger portions of child's menu meals. Some restaurants may do this (but not all). You can also pay for the kid's meal OOP and use the adult credit another time. If you do this enough, you may have enough credits left to throw in an extra meal for the adults, any kids in the party can get kids meals OOP.

Call back. I was able not only to change my dates but change a few of the people on the reservations without affecting my free dining for August.

If you have probs let the CM know that you're daughter will be 10 not 9 for the trip. They don't need to know you're upgrading for free dining.

The CM I had initially suggested I place my DD as a 10 year old to give her more options!

Another option is to pay for his child's meal OOP. If you do this a few times you have enough credits to do another TS.

Some people have also been able to get an adult sized portion of a child's meal, using the adult credit.

So IF FD is offered in the future I can change my son's age on the ressie and get him an adult plan? He is 7 but loves the adult menu. I understand that I will have to get him an adult park tic.

Yes, if you register him as 10 and pay for him an adult ticket then he will be on the adult plan, but also consider that Disney keeps this info on file, and his age could appear as older for future trips in their database.
