My 3yo DD started saying yesterday that her belly hurt, but I thought it was because it was something she ate. She said it again when we took the dogs to MIL's house (an hour away), but she has gotten car sick before if nothing's in her tummy. Today she seems tired, Her cheecks are slightly flush so I took her temp and it's 99.3. She's sleeping right now. She's not throwing up and doesn't have diarreha. We leave in 1.5 hrs to go to the airport. What should I do? :confused3

I'm in a major state of panic here. I feel bad my my DD. Her 4th birthday is on Sunday and we've ordered a cake. Not a big deal we can rearrange all that and park days if we have to because we'll be there for 10 days. I'm just wondering about the plane?!!! I can give her Children's Ibuprofen and that should keep her pretty comfortable for 6-8hrs. I don't know what else to do. There's no time to take her to a Dr. and I am 99.9 percent sure it's a virus because there's no other symptoms.

Help!

Give that child airborne if you're still planning on flying!

Lots of Airborne!!

Other than that, lots of water and saltines or something else bland, just to make sure she's got something in her tummy, but if she looses it, it won't be that bad. The best way to kill the flu is with rest and liquids.

I'd say go go go! But you're the mom, and I know how it is with sick kids. But seriously, I was a teacher for 3 years, and airborne kicked anything I had out of my system in a day or so.

I have heard of Airborne, but can they take that with Ibuprofen? What does it do?

I would suggest changing your flight to the next day, but thats because if I am on your flight with my children I don't want my whole family to get the flu...and my 2000.00 vacation to be a wash.

Dang....harsh words floating around on this post.....

Airborne is non-medicated, just a tablet that you dissolve in liquids. It's chalk full of vitamins and it fights any colds/flus really well. I take it before I get on planes even if I'm not sick at all, because it prevents you from getting sick!

MandM-Mom.....you guys should buy it for your fam if you're worried about your vacay being ruined. I'm sure even if poor pbharris4 doesn't fly on the same flight, someone else on the plane will be sick. Better safe than sorry....

pbharris....good luck and I'm praying that your DD will be well soon. But go buy some Airborne and check the label about any warning of what not to take. Have fun!!

Totally understand your situation and I wouldn't want to get anyone sick either, but I don't want our 10 day $6,000 vacation to be a wash either.

I'm not looking for flames here. I will keep my DD sequestered and away from people as best as I can. She's not coughing or sneezing. So she's not spewing germs throughout the air. I have Purell for her hands as well. Please don't make this any worse than it already is.

And BTW, I sure hope one of your children don't come down with anything 3 hrs before you leave on your trip. Thank you for your advice though.

ITA!!

Thank you Pumpkin for your kind words. :flower3: I'm armed with Purell, Children's Advil, and will pick up some Airborne on the way. She should be fine in a day or two. I'll keep her in the room away from everyone and out of the heat.

Looks like I'm too late here, but Airborne is made with artificial sweeteners. That doesn't bother everyone, but it bothers me.

I use EmergenC instead of Airborne, and it's worked very well. And no artificial sweeteners.

Help!

Personally, I don't consider 99.3 to even be a fever. If it was 103, I would act differently but I would go with the ibuprofen/airborne suggestion. She may be just fine when she wakes up from her nap. If you haven't already left, have a wonderful trip!

Let me provide a little comfort for ya... My 4 year old started complaining of a tummy ache on the 2nd to last night of our WDW trip last week. Never threw up ( I asked him about every 5 min. if he thought he felt like he could-he said no just his tummy hurt). He woke up in the middle of the night with a fever. He was burning up but i didn't have a thermometer to take his temp. I gave him Ibuprofen and he had fever throughout our last day there. Stayed in the room most of the day and alternated Ibuprofen and Tylenol every three hours. (I actually was thinking an ear infection since we have these regularly). By late evening he was feeling better and by morning no more fever. Funny thing was that his tummy only hurt when his fever would spike.

We spent time with my sisters boys on vacation and her 2 have had the same thing happen. Fever for 24 hrs or less, said their tummy hurt but no vomiting, tired and slept alot...then fine. I figured it must just be a virus that was short lived.

So, hopefully your little one will be feeling better soon and can enjoy her trip!

My ped doesn't consider 99.3 to be a fever too. Anything over 100 is a fever to them. I agree, dose her up on meds, keep her away from others as much as you can. And go enjoy your trip. I hope its short lived for you guys and she feels better really soon!!! KUP when you get back!! Edited to add, you are already gone anyways, so hope all is well and you have a great trip!!!

My ped says a normal temp can be +/- 10 from 98.6. So @ 99.3 I would think of that as a temp. My dd will have an elevated temp and complain of stomach pains right before she grows.

Go, have a safe wonderful trip. Hope dd feels better soon

I am sorry did not want to come off snotty! You asked and I gave my opinion, I am sorry. I tend to overreact with this as I have an 11 month old with a comprimised immune system. When we travel I am very cautious yes, but it does not stop us from traveling I can not keep her in the house her entire life......But with that said I would not want some one to get on a flight knowingly ill in a confined space with 100+ other people, yes I know people do it but in my opinion it is not courteous to others and that is just my opinion, just like when my child is sick I would not send them to daycare or school to infect others. What you decide is your business I was not judging you, everyone has that right to fly. In 2005 my oldest DD got sick 1 day before we left, low grade fever and soar throat, we ended up changing our flight and cutting 3 days off our vacation, but I always expect unexpectancies with our children, you just never know. I hope you have a great vacation and the airbourne really helps.

The thing is there is really no idication that the child is really sick. A temp of 99.3 is less than one degree above the adverage temp, plus it is Summer and the temps around here at least is in the upper 90's. A tummy ache in a child is so common and can be atributed to just about anything.
The child might be tired or over-excited or just about anything. SOmetimes a little rest is all kids need and we overjump and label them sick and start giving medication.

NOW I am very much aginst bring sick children on planes or into the park and I truly understand the immune thing as my DS was a 24 weeker and our friends just returned from a wish trip for their compomised immune child. I have seen kids that are truly sick being drug around a park and that is just wrong.

My prayer is that her little one is fine and they are having a blast at the MK today!!!!! If she is really sick I am sure that she and mommy will be resting at the resort.
