Child turns 3 during stay

Our baby will be turning 3 on day three of our trip. We have a long stay booked at AKV, so DVC said this morning that since he is 2 at check-in, he'll be 2 for the whole trip.

We are experiencing some confusion in reading other posts though - is this true? We want to prepare properly and as with every trip, we always look at all scenarios: DP, Dx, OOP or TIW.

Say on day 5, after he has turned 3, will we be required to purchase him a meal?

We are not trying to scam at all - just trying to figure out what would be best for our needs. Say for instance we get TIW, do the restaurants count the child's age at time of meal, or, do they follow the age at check-in that the resorts follow?

DVC said that they could add the baby as a 3 year old since he'd be turning on our trip, but then we'd have to buy a ticket in order to get the dining plan? This confused us, since as DVC members we don't need tickets to add the meal plan?

Despite being Disney veterans, this area is confusing us as our our other child's birthday is always before our trips - we don't have experience with a babe having a birthday during our trip.

Any help you can provide, would be greatly appreciated, as we are working on dining spreadsheets as we speak!

That is correct, unless you want it otherwise. My DD turned 10 while we were there in Sept. I opted to her her listed as an adult so we could get her adult DDP credits. Since the DDP was free I only had to pay the difference between adult and child on a one day base ticket. Well worth it to me.

You should be fine with him as a 2 year old. He will eat free at buffets. But if you are on the DDP, you'll only be able to use however many people you have on your card, at each meal. Of course you can pay OOP for him if you order him his own meal. Or he can share with you.

This happened to us last Dec as my DS turned 3 on day two of our stay. The policy states that the child's age at check in is how it is charged for the vacation.

So, keeping at age 2 means that no dining plan needed. At buffets, they will eat free and at other meals you can either share or pay out of pocket for a child's meal. We were on the DxDP and had so much food we just shared!

At 2, they are also not required to have tickets for WDW, so you save money on that also! :thumbsup2
