I hope someone may be able to clarify the procedure for me. Last year it was me, DH, DD (who can ride all rides) and DS (who was only 7 mo). We were told by CMs that this was the procedure:

1. all of the party, except non-riding child and parent, stands in line and rides

2. Fastpass CM then gives the non-riding adult a child swap fastpass good for up to 3 people

OK this is nice and all but we ended up standing in line twice. Yes, one was standby and one was fastpass, but still two lines. Why can't we just change places...when my DH gets off, I get on. :confused3

You have my personal permission to "just change places."
But Disney doesn't seem to recognize my authority in such matters.

didn't something like that used to be the way it worked? it's been a while since my family's needed to do child swaps, so maybe i remember wrong, but i vaguely remember my mom waiting at the end of the ride for me and my dad to get off and then she and i would immediately get on while my dad took my brother or sister?

Yes, that it how child swap used to be handled. With the institution of Fastpass, it is no longer the case. Now they give out a rider switch pass which is good for up to 3 people and it is used in the Fastpass line as your pass so you do not need a regular Fastpass. The only exception is Star Tours. For that ride, you all enter together and swap at the ride itself.

One parent rides however they want to; Standby, Fastpass or single rider. Then the second parent rides with the Rider Switch pass.

This is how it works now.

Oh, darn. I thought this thread was going to tell me how to swap my kids. Don't get me wrong, I love the little rugrats, but there are times, I tell ya... :furious:

;) :rolleyes1

CHILD SWAP:

You can pick from several sizes and styles of children.
Then, you make a deal with the loading CM's to trade your old child for a newer model (or maybe one who is better-behaved).

The more "passes" you collect, the more CHOICES you have.

This is one reason why so many parents LOVE to take their children to WDW.

They can swap for a child of their choice.

Happy kids, happy parents, fun times for all.

Watch for the new ABC reality series, "Child Swap, Disney World Edition"... coming soon!

Can you still use this if you originally use the fastpass queue to ride.??:confused3
E.g we all get fastpasses although I have to wait out the ride with ds(2) while dh rides with DD's (13 &10). I don't want to ride space mountain on my own!!!:scared1: :scared1: :rotfl2:

Yes, you can use the special rider switch Fastpass no matter how many Fastpasses your group picked up.

Remember, the rider switch pass is good for up to 3 guests so the second parent that waited with the baby doesn't have to ride alone.

Yes, you can. Last year we acquired and used fastpasses. actually my DD10 was able to ride twice. Once with me (utilizing our fastpass) and once with my DH (utilizing the rider switch pass). the non-riding child was our DS (7 MONTHS AT THE TIME).
