Child Swap - The best tool ever.

Ok to make sure I understand correctly...We have me, DH, DD (8) and DS (2). I can schedule FP for me and DD for one ride and DH and DD for another, show them DS at each to get Child Swap passes? With my DD riding both rides would she need to have a FP both times? If so, then my concern is that she'll use up all her FP, while DH and I have an extra to use...does that makes sense or am I making it more complicated?

How would this work for 4 adults, 1 -16 yr old and a 1 year old?

This is one of those tools that is annoying if you can never utilize it. We are a party of three. ;)

I should "get" this but I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around it even though I've read several posts! We will have 6 adults, 2 kids tall enough for all rides, 2 not tall enough. That said, the "tall" ones likely won't want to do SM, maybe not even BTMR.

So if I FP the 6 adults for SM within the same hour...say 11-12....then what happens? 4 adults ride while 2 stay with the kids and wait? Then the other 2 adults ride? But the first 4 adults will be given paper FP so they (or someone else) can ride again as long as the CM sees they are with kids? Does this system only benefit someone wanting to ride multiple times?

I'm another one that wants my specific situation clarified! I'm new to child swap as well since the last time we went, I was pregnant with DS and rode with DD (then 2) while DH and grandparents did the mountains and such. Someone please tell me if this would work:

Party of 4 adults, DD4, and DS1.5. At Epcot, I make two adults FP+ for Soarin' and 2 adults FP+ (different time) for Test Track. Could the first two ride Soarin' with the 4 year old and get rider swap then the 2nd two adults ride Soarin' with the 4 year old using the rider swap passes? Then, you could repeat this process for Test Track?

We will definitely be doing Frozen for our tier 1 FP+, but we plan to visit Epcot a 2nd day to make sure we get in on Soarin' and/or Test Track.

If you are only looking to get the 6 adults on a ride using fast pass, then you could get fast passes for 3 of them. Those three would approach the cast member at the beginning of the ride queue, point out the rest of the party with the kids who are not tall enough and be issued a rider swap pass. Those 3 riders would ride, then hand the rider swap pass to the other 3 adults and they could ride. That way you could be using 3 people's fast passes for 6 people. After everyone rides, those 3 adults not using a fast pass for the first ride could have fast pass for another ride, go through the same process but this time with the other three adults staying with the kids, get the rider swap pass, then those other three adults could ride that ride.

Basically, it doesn't matter how many people you have fast pass a ride as long as you have at least one person staying back with the kids, then you can get a rider swap pass that will allow three people to go into the fast pass line after the initial rider(s) is done. Those going in on that rider swap pass will not need a fast pass. To clarify, regardless of whether you have 1 person fast passing a ride or 6, you will receive 1 rider swap pass valid for 3 people to come back through. Now if you wanted to fast pass all 6 adults for one ride during the same hour, what you could do is send the first group through, have them get a rider swap pass. Then they wait with the kids while the second group goes through. The second group also gets a rider swap pass. The second group uses their fast pass though. Then when you're done, you have 2 riderswap passes each valid for 3 people, so 6 total that can be used later on.

The 4 yr old would need a fast pass to ride with anyone else in the party that is using a fast pass. So if 2 adults and 4 yr old fastpassed soarin, then the second two adults and 4 yr old could ride soarin on the rider swap pass. Then with test track, only 2 adults would have a fast pass, so they would ride test track, then the other 2 adults and 4 yr old would ride with the rider swap pass. 4 yr old could ride soarin twice but test track once because they would need a fast pass to go on the ride the first time. Any three people can ride under the rider swap. Hope this makes sense.

If she is riding each ride the first time, then yes she would need a fast pass which would mean she is using more fast passes than the adults and would run out. What you can do is have DD and 1 adult fastpass a ride. They get rider swap pass, then DD can ride with the other adult on the rider swap pass. DD rides twice. That leaves 1 adult with a fast pass. That adult rides alone on another ride, gets a rider swap pass, then other adult and DD ride with rider swap. DD rides that ride once.

How would this work for 4 adults, 1 -16 yr old and a 1 year old?

There are many ways you can do it. One is to have 2 adults and 16 year old fastpass a ride. They get rider swap pass and then the other 2 adults could ride again with 16 year old (or any 3 people can ride). Then the 2 adults who didn't fastpass that first ride could fastpass something different, get the rider swap, and the 3 who didn't fastpass that ride (or any 3 people) could ride it with rider swap.

Another one confused about this! We used child swap in the past but this is the first time going with FP+.
We have: 2 adults, 12 yo, 10 yo, 6 yo, and an infant.
I scheduled all of our FP+ together. How should I split this up? (If at all?)

Thanks so much! I never thought about splitting the fast passes! So glad I still have a month or so to tweak what I'm hoping to get before I make them.

CS+ (Child Swap Fast Pass)
FP+ (Fast Pass)

Here is an example for Magic Kingdom:
Group 1: Adult 1 + 12yr + 10yr
Group 2: Adult 2 + 6yr

Adult 1 + 12yr + 10yr
11:00am - Splash FP+
11:30am - Splash CS+ (Adult 2 6yr +12yr + 10yr)
12:00pm - Thunder FP+
12:30pm - Thunder CS+ (Adult 2 6yr +12yr + 10yr)
1:00pm - 7DMT FP+
1:30pm - 7DMT CS+ (Adult 2 6yr +12yr + 10yr)

Adult 2 + 6yr
12:15pm - Thunder FP+
12:45pm - Thunder CS+ (Adult 1 + 12yr + 10yr + 6yr)
1:15pm - 7DMT FP+
1:45pm - 7DMT CS+ (Adult 1 + 12yr + 10yr + 6yr)
2:00pm - Space FP+
2:30pm - Space CS+ (Adult 1 + 12yr + 10yr + 6yr)

Now this is just an example you don't need to make all the FP+ split, you could do a family FP+ ride as well with all the same times so you can ride with the infant.

Also you don't need to use your CS+ right away you can save them depending on the expiration on the bottom, we got ours mid month and they were valid until the end of the month.

FP+ (Fast Pass Plus)
CS+ (Child Swap Fast Pass)

So a way to make this work would be:

Group 1: Adult 1 + Adult 2
Group 2: Adult 3 + Adult 4 + DD4

Adult 1 + Adult 2 : Soarin' FP+
Adult 3 + Adult 4 + DD4: Soarin' CS+

Adult 3 + Adult 4 + DD4 : Test Track FP+
Adult 1 + Adult 2 + DD4 Test Track CS+

So DD4 will get to ride one ride twice. UNLESS one person rides solo in which case they could ride it more then twice but that gets into next level complicated haha

Epcot has the rides in tiers so you cannot FP+ book both Soarin & Test Track.

Rider swap is good for up to 3 people.

Adult 1 + Adult 2 + Adult 3 + Adult 4 + Adult 5 = 11am - Splash Mountain FP+
Adult 6 + (Which ever 2 other adults choose to go on again) = 11:15am - Splash Mountain CS+

So whichever 2 other Adults want to go on with Adult 6 can go on, rock paper scissors to decide lol

It does benefit those who want to ride again, that being said I would have just 1 adult stay behind so they can ride again, and who knows maybe the 2 kids who are tall enough might be brave after seeing the adults and decided to go on.

You wouldn't need to use all your FP+ separate you can obviously always book other rides as well this is just an example
This would result in the 16yr old getting to go on rides multiple times... Ex. 7DMT 3x!!

Unless you ride solo!

In order for this to work for you family since you only have 1 child able to ride one of the adults will be riding solo once in a while (we always alternated).

DH
FP+ 7DMT
FP+ Splash Mountain - Ride SOLO
FP+ Peter Pans Flight

DW
FP+ Space Mountain - Ride SOLO
FP+ Thunder Mountain
FP+ Peter Pans Flight

FP+ 7DMT
CS+ 7DMT
CS+ Space Mountain with DH

FP+ Thunder Mountain

Thank you so much, I was trying to wrap my mind around this and how it would work, appreciate you taking the time to explain.

I'm sorry to add on to all the questions, but I am also still confused. DH and I are going with our 9 month old. If say I had a FP+ for 7DMT and DH did not, I would go, tell a cast member we would like to do child swap, I would point to my DH and baby, they would scan my Magic Band to ensure I had a FP, then they would give me a paper FP for DH to use later, then I would head in? Also, when can DH use that paper pass? Immediately, or at any time?

Thanks to everyone helping us to understand!

Sort of. The cast member will not scan your magic band to ensure you have a fast pass. You scan it at the fast pass entrance when you are about to ride. Just go up to the CM and tell them you'd like a rider swap pass, point out your dh and the baby and they will hand you one. That rider swap pass can be used as soon as you'd like, or can be saved for later on that day or later on in your vacation. They are typically good for a couple of weeks if you don't want to use it right away. Also, the first rider could wait in the stand by line (no fp+) and still receive a rider swap pass for the other adult to use later. Obviously you probably aren't going to want to do this when there's an hour or longer wait in the stand by line, but if you happen to see a short line, sometimes it's better to do standby than waste a fast pass for it. It doesn't matter whether the first rider does fastpass or waits in the standby line, they can still get a riderswap pass for whoever stays with the baby and that riderswap pass will allow any 3 people to go into the fast pass line for the ride.
