Child Swap Question

Is the child swap only available if you have children who are too small to meet the height requirements for the ride or for any child who doesn't want to ride? For example, my husband and I would both like to ride Splash Mountain with our older daughter. My younger daughter is just tall enough to ride it too, but there is no way she will go on it (too scared).

Yep. And one of the many inaccuracies on the Disney website. This is not how it actually works.

I think Rider Switch and Child Swap are different -- so maybe people aren't using the correct term when they are speaking to CMs.

For example I had a Child Swap ticket for 7DMT and that isn't listed on the site for Rider Switch. Also, Rider Switch says you can bring 1 guest back with you, Child Swap passes lists 3 people.

You can bet that when my kid is tall enough but chooses NOT to ride an attraction I will be calling a supervisor over if this isn't honored. OP, I would suggest you do the same.

Rider switch and child swap (or baby swap or baby switch) are the exact same thing. I recommend reading the link in post #2.

I am sure they will tell the supervisor they have a special guest and wish you a magical day as they walk away.

Well, to be completely honest, it shouldn't be. I would love it if Disney would get it together and get rid of the bad information on it's website.

Unfortunately it hasn't, and the CMs are expected to follow their training rather than what it says on the website.

I would honestly screenshot where it says so on the Disney site, and be ready to pull that out if they tried to say otherwise, and be a total pain in the butt about it. Because that's ridiculous. It's not unreasonable to request that they honor it.

It doesn't matter. They will do what they are trained to do. Anything else could lead them to being fired. Think about it. How old is too old to get a swap pass? Five , ten, fourteen? What about adults? If I don't want to ride splash but the rest of my family does, should they get a swap pass to essentially go twice? Height is definable and definite. It is based on a safety standard. Think about how easy it would be to manipulate.

But the line on the site indicates a child. So I don't get how it could be mis-used for an adult.

Here's the info easywdw has, which suggests basically what I said

"Do Swaps only apply to too-short guests?
This is another misconception about Swaps. While most of them are used for the "too-small children" situation, technically Disney World's policy allows for Swaps "either because they do not meet the height requirement or simply do not wish to ride". This is spelled out on WDW's Rider Switch website (see the link below). So if you have a timid child who doesn't want to ride, even if they're technically tall enough to ride, you should be allowed to get a Swap. Many CMs don't realize this, and this is definitely a situation where your experience is going to vary when requesting the Swap. It's advisable to print out the information at the WDW website and show it to the CM if you encounter any issues. You can always request to talk to a supervisor or visit Guest Services if you experience a lot of pushback."

Another third party website doesn't add anything to your argument. Do people get exceptions, pixie dust, whatever you want to call it sure. But people here are giving the benefit of their experience. And that experience is that it is for the too short child and they sometimes are even measured to make sure they are too short. All insisting on seeing a supervisor will do is cause delay as you wait. Operations doesn't care what marketing put on the website.

How many people get kids meals for kids over ten. Or flat out lie about their kids age. So now cm have to check to see the age of a kid claiming to be too scared for a ride. So they now need magic band readers on the rides that are programmed to know the ticket type of everyone. Your solution is additional expense and job responsibilities for the cm

I didn't go on may rides until I was an adult because I was so scared. I would always stand in line with my family and then when it was time for them to get on the ride I would just wait for them at the exit. How old is your child? You can always have them do this and find a place to meet once you are off the ride. They might be alone for 5 minutes. Depending on their age they MIGHT be able to handle this.

OP, if I were you, I would ask. You might get lucky and the CM might give the pass, but don't count on it. I have read on here where that has happened, but others have been denied so....you just never know.
