Hi,

I'm wondering if we could use the child swap pass if both parents and one child wanted to ride something but the younger one (who meets the height requirement) is too scared.
Thanks.

I am not positive but I think they use an age where they shouldn't be left alone versus height. I have gotten them for my 40" 4 yr old who didn't like Space Mtn. I've seen a family turned down at Matterhorn and the boy who wasn't riding appeared 11/12.

Thanks for this question - I had the same concern. My 10yo son is pretty timid about rides, although his older & younger brothers aren't at all. Does anyone know if they will let him wait in line with us when we go in April, but not go on the ride & just wait for us to finish at the exit? I'm thinking he'll remember being scared on Indy 3 years ago and refuse to go again, and once he makes up his mind about something, there's no changing it!

With my dd who is 8 someone had to wait with her at the exit for Splash Mountain and then we did a ride swap, we couldn't have her in line if she wasn't riding. HTH

We had this same issue a few years ago at Space Mountain. One day they let us use a Ride Swap Pass and the next day they wouldn't. My DS8 wouldn't go through the line with us because even that terrified him. Now my DS10 is old enough to wait at the exit and that is what he does. Although I am hoping that now he successfully rode Thunder Mountain a few times without freaking out, he will be willing to try Space Mountain this next trip. :scared1:
They were willing to let him wait in line and not ride.

Tech, according to a cm I talked to, rider swap is for people who can't ride
Not for people who don't want to ride.

My friends were told that if a child was big enough to ride and didn't want to that they could go in line and at the front pass to the exit side and wait
With said my friends kid was allowed to swap by a different cm the day before :confused3

Thanks for all the replies. Our sons are 5 and 3 and we're not sure what rides the 3 yr old will be tall enough for. ( our trip is in May). If he is over 40" he still may not be ready for some of the scarier rides and it's obviously not an option to leave him alone. I'm thinking that they may not check height because he would be so close.

I can't imagine they'd be so strict with a tall 3 yo.

In my experience, if the child is young (5 or under) most CMs are just fine with using a child swap, even if they meet height requirements.

They will check height if there is any question as to whether he meets the requirement or not. They are VERY strict on meeting the height requirement.

They don't make people go on rides. People can chicken out and go out the exit. My son is only 8, but has gone to Disneyland many times and has experience with single rider lines at DCA and at Universal Florida, so I would be fine with him going out the exit after waiting in line, if he was OK with it of course.

There are some rides that my family has to split up for, or not do. DS won't go near Haunted Mansion when Jack Skellington isn't there to make it feel safe. He won't get close to the line, and would definitely not wait in line and do the chicken exit. Of course the chicken exit for HM is worse than HM, or it was back in '06...

She meant going the other way...that they wouldn't measure a tall and scared three year old to see if he does or does not hit the height requirement.

My tall and brave then 3 year old didn't hit the height for the second height check on Star Tours he first time because he was so little he didn't understand that he wanted to hit his head on the bar to prove his height. His instinct was to duck. I think that's pretty normal for a 3 year old, so even if they did check, if you aren't encouraging him to stand straight and tall, he probably wouldn't, and therefore the swap pass could be given without issue.

If you have a 3 year old or even a 5 year old that is tall enough to ride, they will give you the pass, BECAUSE you can't leave them alone by the exit after they wait in line with you. That would be my logic period. If they are older and scared, fine, then we would go though together and me and child would let others go first, then I will send my child over ride to hubby or family then ride by myself.
