Have you had any type of experience with this before. My dd's school sent home a flyer in which I filled out I would like to receive 2 safety kits for my dd's. Tonight I received a call from a woman who says she has to come out and show me how the kits work (apparently they work in conjunction with the Amber Alert system). She also told me the number which came on my caller ID is how I can reach her since it will forward the calls to her cell phone. She stated she needs both myself and my dh to sign the paperwork together and it would take 20 minutes. I told ehr this week was bad and she said she will call me Monday to set an appt for next week.
Just trying to find out if this is a legitimate practice. I just assumed the kits would be mailed to me.
TIA

I had my kids fingerprinted at a safety event sponsored by my DH's work. The man there rolled their fingers in ink and there seemed to be a process on how to do it correctly. Not sure I remember signing anything, but we might have. Maybe b/c they are coming to your home it's done a little differently? We got to keep the booklets and pray we never need to use them. I do understand your concern. If you're worried, you could just get it done at an event outside your home. I know I've seen the fingerprinting service offered at YMCA events, etc. But, you did fill out the paperwork, so it's probably legit. Maybe google around to see if what the lady says looks true...

I would check with the Police Department ot see if this is actually something officially sponsored by the PD or if it is something else. If not officially sponsored by the PD, it is possibly a company trying to scare you into buying a product/service and then verify with the school.

I agree - I've seen something like this before and it was fee-based, and it was a private company doing it. When you do it in connection with the police, they do not come to your home and it's free.

Talk to your local PD, sounds fishy to me.

Our town recently offers electronic kits. We brought our child to the library and an officer personally took and added all the info. I agree it is a bit weird getting that call. I would also verify with the town police.
