Child on Dinning Plan??

I'm wanting to add my 2 1/2 year old (who has a tremendous appetite) to the dinning plan. We are (DH, DW DD4 DD2 1/2) staying for 8 days. Would it be possible to book my package with only a single day one park base ticket for all of us, and upgrade the tickets for myself DW DD4, to 8 day water park hopper tickets when we arrive in Sept. This way it would only cost me $52.00 (the cost of a childs one day ticket, that I won't use for DD 2 1/2) to get the free dinning for DD 2 1/2??

I know the Self-Appointed Disney Ethics Police will argue with my answer, but I'll say it anyway.

I see nothing wrong with that plan. If the dining package wasn't free, Disney would NEVER argue with you for choosing to pay for your child, as long as you were also willing to buy the child a MYW pass instead of bringing the child in for free; therefore, I see no problem with you doing the same thing now.

And now where the ethics police can really flame...
You can still bring the child in free if you wanted and save the one-day MYW pass for a future date.

Your DD would be free at all buffets, and the kids meals are really reasonable, it might not even cost you the $52 if you do some buffets.

The other thing to consider is if you say she's 3 once, when people check your cards it's going to look like she's 3 all the time KWIM.

So say if you were to go the MNSSHP, and you all have bracelets except DD because she doesn't need one because she is under 3, but you go to eat, and on your dining plan it says she is 3. They might wonder why she doesn't have a bracelet if she's 3. I DOUBT that would ever happen, but IMHO it's not worth it. UNLESS you really want the extra dining credits to use as adult credits so you can get more free food, then it's worth the extra $52.

Now that's only if they let you upgrade all the tickets except DD's if they do it's a good plan because you could even save her 1 day ticket and use it on a different trip. So in reality it's not even costing you the $52.

I suppose that there also could be problems when entering the parks, the room key card will say she's three, but she won't have any park pases, as she really is only 2 1/2. Would they ask for I.D. to prove her age, or would they demand she have a park pass??

Just an FYI...once you've been to Disney, you are in their computers and they know your names and ages.

When I booked the free dining package the other day , the CM was able to tell me our names and ages based on my phone number alone.

They do know your name, but the ages are not updated. I call the other day and they told me all the names but the ages of the kids were wrong, from three years ago. So I had to tell them their age now.

To OP....I think you have a good plan, and see nothing wrong with doing that. Also you can upgrade 1 or any amount of tickets you want after you check in.

Here is were I will get flames I think. You could even use some of his TS to use for the signature dinning for yourselves. However if you go the buffets, IMO, you should use his TS credits for his meal.

MYW Dining is a great plan, even if you have to pay for it. It becomes a "steal" if parents are able to use some credits, paid for at the child rate, to purchase adult meals. It's a shame that's not enough for some guests.

MYW Dining requires a package including tickets. Your 2 1/2 eats for free at buffets and all you care to eat meals. That includes all character meals and all the dinner shows. I'm one of the posters who think the reports of huge portion sizes is somewhat exaggerated but I'd think for most other TS the adults and older children will have more than enough food to share with your 2 1/2 year old.

I don't see any way the value of the food your 2 1/2 year old will get from the dining plan will exceed the price of tickets. The money Disney makes from tickets, including those purchased elsewhere, is paying for part of the plan.

Make it simple anything, that requires lying is probably wrong. You want to have two different ages for your child 2 1/2 for admission but 3 for the meal plan. That can't be right.

That's probably true for the most part but when I called on Saturday to book our package, the CM addressed me by DD's name and they didn't even have DS in the system (which is strange b/c he's actually received postcard PINs from them). And when the CM was confirming my ressie, he had DD's age as being 2 years younger than she is. So, while a lot of that info is in their system, much of it can be wrong.

Ok, well, it was just an FYI...my info was all correct in their computers so I would have felt dumb if I, for example, tried to lie and say my almost 10 year old DD was younger than she is to try and get the dining plan at the child rate rather then the adult rate. It was just an FYI.

I don't know what they do or don't intend to keep on file, but I had a hard time making ressies this last time. When DWTC/CRO asked about our travelling party, they started asking is M* going, is A* going, and on down the entire list of people I have ever brought with me to WDW! We finally got the correct 4 out of the list of about a dozen. Then when making ADRs I mentioned that I wanted something special for DD's Bday and they told me when it was! Maybe we had a trip when she transitioned from "free" to child and it was noted - I don't know. I would stick with the correct age and give up the extra DDP for which you were hoping.
