Child Leashes. Your thoughts?

They sure do! And an 'Amber Alert' is issued. Its happened around here more times than once. When the real thing happens nobody will take it seriously.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen little kids crying, trudging along in the mall. I always want to go up and help, but I hang around for a few minutes to see if the mother comes around. 99% of the time they do, and 99% of the time the mom screams "WHY DID YOU DO THAT?! DON'T YOU EVER WALK AWAY FROM ME AGAIN!" and then spanks them on the butt. Sometimes they deserve the yell, but I don't support spanking in public. And it's not like we're talking 7 year olds, I mean 2-4 year olds.

Um, at age whatever 2-3-4, those kids dont know any better! You(the parent) must keep them safe. You can't expect a 3 yr old to listen and not wonder off. Its rediculous. My little sister is 3, and she runs off ALLLLLLL the time.

Uhm, so you call 'leashes' child abuse, but you approve of spanking? Spanking is NOT the only way to make a child learn, there are other ways of discipline.

Exactly, there are zillions of different forms of discipline. And some are more suitable for being out in a crowd.

I don't like spanking but sometimes (alright, very rarely) it's necessary. Some children are rowdy and everything else doesn't get through to them. I don't agree with it, but if you wish to spank your child it's your prerogative. But spanking in public is absolutely horrendous.

i think the leashes are fine(the pic i posted was a joke.) but not all the time.
ok. if your in the grocery store or something, go ahead and let them walk, or put them in the cart/hold their hand.
but if your going to go on a walk at the park, where your outside by the highway, or water and whatnot, go ahead and use one of the cute little monkey backpacks. its for the kids safety.

i also think spanking is fine, in moderation. dont go somewhere public and start spankng your kids nonstop(ive seen people do this, flipping out on their kids, and it just makes the parent look bad). take them out of the store, swat there butts once, and take them home.

my mum used them for my little sisters. they had a habit of running off in opposite directions, so it was impossible for mum to chase after them both. on top of that, she also had to look after me and my big sister at the same time. so i think in that sistuation, it was completely appropriate and probably the smartest thing to do.

I think it really depends in like a busy place like the Zoo or Disney World I think it's fine but in the grocery unless it's like a huge busy Wal-Mart I don't like the idea
But if your child's known to wander off I could understand why someone would use it...

Sometimes you can't hold a child's hand, because the child could slip out and you might not notice immediately. The one around the neck is RIDICULOUS, but the cute little monkey one is cute, and like Shelby said, it's not hurting the child. It's just like the child is wearing a backpack. Also, it should only be used in crowded areas. Like, if you're in a grocery store and you're the only ones there, you should be able to keep watch of a child. But if you're in Times Square, or WDW during the summer it's OK to use the cute little monkey backpack to make sure your child is with you.

It's just a way to make sure your kid doesn't run away. I don't see anything wrong with that

My oldest DD was way too independent to hold my hand. She was walking before 8 mo and never looked back. Now that she is ten she says she remembers using and liking it because she felt like a big girl on her own 5 feet away with full use of her hand and feet to run and touch. It also came in handy when she would start to fall we would just pull up alittle until she got her footing.

I would have loved a little cuddle bug who held my hand but what I got was
#1: an independant girl
#2 a boy who was too busy to hold hands, ran before thinking, climbed windows and took apart our basebord heating system at 1yrs old and at three got away from his grandfather for two secounds and was found up a ladder almost on the roof
#3 one fairy princess who liked to hold hands until 4.

They don't make child harnesses that go around the neck. If you're referring to the video, it was a monkey backpack that just got kind of wrapped and pulled around his neck.

definitely a good thing if you have a kid prone to wondering. it gives them the freedom to walk around and then the security that you know where they are.

my mother works for dcs, and she LOVES them. so even if you disagree, the people who make up the rules about how you can treat your kids like them.

of course, i don't mean that they're okay in this kind of situation.

also, i notice that people without children are much much harder on the choices made by those with children. (again, i'm not talking about this woman, i'm talking about all of you who said that they're "evil" when used properly)
