child id question

My kids won't leave a necklace or a bracelet alone. They take them off and lose them.

I bought engraved dogtags from Petsmart. I put their name on them and a cell phone number. I use a safety pin to pin the dogtag to their shirt. They don't take them off.
I just received an email that the bracelets I ordered are being shipped today. That was just two days since the order. So being shipped USPS should be here next week. I ordered two for $9.98 put his nane and our names and cell #'s. Plan to place on ankle. His dog tags that I had ordered came with a clip that has a lock on it (plan to put this on his shoe).

See earlier post for dog tag site and bracelet site.

Question If you found what you thought was a lost child would have looked at those silicone bracelets for information if you hadn't seen this thread?
I know until I read this post it would never have occurred to me to check those bracelets for information if I found a lost child. To me they are gumball machine junk or for a charity of some sort. Tattoos nope, wouldn't have looked at those either.
The dogtags I get in theory but who's gonna reach down a kids shirt for them?

I would have seen the shoe tags and the sharpie.

I guess the real question is are the kids gonna know to show it to someone if they are lost?

DD10 wears a MedicAlert (diabetic) bracelet and I'm pretty sure people look for those. That doesn't get her back to me but it will get her help.

No, I do not think I would think to look at the bracelets. But, I would look at a dog tag on a shoe or belt loop. I believe the dissers that said their kids were wearing dog tags as a necklace have older children. I believe if I found a toddler I would check a bracelet or ankle. I know I would now that I have read this site. Hopefully, I won't have to count on a disser with this knoledge to find my child; I pray he does not try to wander. But, if he does he will have his "ankle" bracelet and his shoe tag.

I went to Joann's & picked up the clear plastic pin-on buttons that you can take apart & customize to your liking. I took some bright colored paper & decorated them with Disney stickers for the front of it & in small print wrote "cell phone numbers on the back", then wrote our numbers on the back so they weren't so obvious. I pinned the buttons on the bottom of their shirts so they were out of their way. They worked great & the boys didn't complain one bit about wearing them. Very cheap & great for a last minute idea!

I have used this site https://www.stuckonyou.biz for iron on labels with my child's name & my cell phone # and the wristbands. I just iron-on each outfit near the tag before we leave for Disney. DDs don't always want to wear the wristbands, but they can't take off the iron-ons!

I've had more people stop me in the parks and say....wow what a simple good idea..

Some one on these boas pointed me to mypreciouskid.com. They have great personalized dog tags. They come in many colors. One side you could select a design the other had room for name, dad cell, mom cell, and home #. It came attatched to a clip that would be perfect for a belt loop. I've taught the kids 4,6,8 that if they get lost, find a worker and show them the tag. We even tried it out at the zoo one day. They don't want to leave the house without it now because they think they are so cool.

I recently saw Elmo bracelets at Target that you write on yourself!

Well, just like our luggage tags I made ID tags that say:

Example of our DD3.5 tag:
My name is ___________ ____________.
I'm allergic to strawberries.
My family is staying that the
__________ _________ Resort.
Please help me rejoin them by calling ___ - ___ - _____.

I took them to Staples and had them laminated and everything. For my oldest daughter who is almost 11 I'll put her's in her pin lanyard pouch along with her resort key but for our youngest who is a month shy of turning 4 I'm going to pin it to the back of her flipped down so everyone won't see her name and start calling her as if they know her.

I like that idea, also. I like that you can place the name the resort on it. I like the dog tags I use them whenever we go out. DS2.5 does not speak well yet.
