can anyone confirm this rumor. I heard that a child fell out of a water ride last week and wasn't hurt just all wet and disney gave them a $100 gift card for clothes to buy. I think it was the Jungle Cruise. I find that impossible because they put you so tightly on the boats and your sitting pretty far down in the boat.

It is impossible if a child is sitting in the ride like they should be. However if the child wanted to see better like some do on the bus and decided to stand on their char (and the parents let them) then yeah I could see this happening. Even more if this was a young child that tried to reach out to touch something.

yay...lap bars on pirates, small world, living with the land, jungle cruise, mealstrom and the grand fiesta tour are next....

Yep, then a lawsuit when a boat sinks or tips over and people drown because they couldn't get out from their lap bar.

Then they will just take the water away

Nothing really turns up in a search except this thread. That would have been all over the news in CFL.

Actually, it's highly unlikely that it "would have been all over the news" in Central Florida if all that happened was that a child fell into the water, suffered no injuries, and WDW provided dry clothing so the family could enjoy the rest of the day.

In fact, unless a reporter happened to be watching, the media would not even know about it. There would be no police report or emergency response report.

Even if a reporter happened to see it, I doubt he or she would have considered it to be newsworthy.

I'm not sure I believe the $100 gift card part, but I suppose it's possible that it's easier for WDW occasionally just to hand over a $100 gift card than to provide specific items of dry clothing under such circumstances.

The water is what, 2 feet deep? Those boats can't really tip over, fill with some water, sure, but not tip over. The boats ride along a rail and the drivers make a big deal of turning the wheel, but it's one of the safest rides there is.

The biggest danger would be falling out and then having the boat hit the person. This is what happened on Splash Mountain years ago. The impact killed the person. Boats are heavy - even in water.

Or falling out and hitting your head on the rail. Or on the bottom. Or...many possibilities to get injured.

Not sure if this is true but I saw on wikipedia that the water varied from 3-8 feet deep, can anyone confirm this?

Probably the animatronics in the water (hippos, maybe more) need the extra space for the mechanics. Also, the track switch under water (to take boats on or off) next the unload dock probably has some depth to it.

I doubt this very much...mainly because when there have been issued with clothes becoming uwearable (accidents, spills, or possibly soiled by ride mechanics), Disney has typically taken the person to a shop to get new clothes and not just given them a gift card.

I also suspect if a child fell out of the ride, Disney would have insisted summoned the paramedic so the parents would have had to officially refused treatment (protection from future claims).

Exactly!!!

They wouldn't wanna pay someone's bar tab with a gift card meant for new clothes... lol
