Child AP Question

I don't want to get into ticket ethics, I just want advise as I have talked to two different CM's and received two different answers. Situation:

I want to buy an AP for my dd, but don't know if I should get child or adult -

Going in October for 8 days (dd will be 9)
Going in January for 8 days (dd will be 9)
Going in March for 3 days (dd will have just turned 10)
not going again until the following October when I would have to renew.

Do I bite the bullet and get her the adult, or the child and then feel guilty for those 3 days in March 2007?

There should be no ethical issue here. YOu bought it and first used it at age 9, so of course, you should buy the child AP.

I believe you can upgrade it to the adult AP on that 3rd visit either for a very minimal fee or for no fee. Not 100% sure about that but that's what I'd do so I have no worries at all.

This is so easy, and I've done it myself. Buy the child's ticket. As long as your dd uses it once while she is still 9, Disney will upgrade it for free to the adult ticket later on. Since the tickets are non-transferable you get a bit of a freebie here from Disney. Enjoy!

No need to "feel guilty."

Think about how MANY times this happens at Disney.

They are happy to allow a child who has grown into the "adult" category to use any unused "child's admission" on a later trip.

If its an OBVIOUS difference as in (using an unexpired older ticket from when the child was 9 years old in, say 2001) the child is now 14 or 15, just fo to Guest Relations and they will issue an upgrade for the remianing days.

If its just that your child has "turned 10" during an AP's usable year... just go ahead and USE the ticket.

Robo's right, no need to feel guilty at all. If a child is 9 when the AP is first used, Disney allows them to use that ticket for the year it's good for. The next time you get her an AP, she will be 10 (or above if you don't get it right away) and will need the more expensive AP.

In fact, even without an AP, Disney does this. For example, if you have a non-expiring ticket your child partially used before they turned 10, they can use the remaining days after turning 10 without paying extra. If they're much older, Disney will replace the ticket they have with an adult version with the same number of days as they had left, for free. (This does NOT work if the ticket is unused!)

You are fine. Buy the child AP, but when you renew it, you will have to upgrade it to an Adult Renewal. They will give you the adult renewal rate then.

If a CM told you to purchase an adult ticket, they were mistaken. You can if you want to - but there is no need to.

I was specifically told by a CM on the phone that when I upgrade our MYW pass to an AP for DS9 that he can use that same AP until it expires, THEN I will have to upgrade it to an adult AP. Much easier than upgrading it before it expires, because you don't pay anything to go from child to adult if the AP hasn't expired yet.
