I saw the worst case of child abuse EVER IN MY LIFE this week! We had to call CPS and they basically did nothing. So we called the police because this girl had the worst bruises I've ever seen on a child in my life!!!! When the police arrived they made the decision to take all the children away from the mom after talking to the one child who had the bruises. The child also told the police that basically, mom's boyfriend was messing around with her. As I listened to her (I was with her when she was talking to the police because she was to affraid to talk to them alone) my heart was breaking into a million pieces inside!!! I tried not to cry. This reminded me so much of what I went through as a child. I don't understand why or how a boyfriend could be more important than your own children? Needless to say, it was the WORST DAY OF MY LIFE!!! I could never be the person who listens to children talk about the type of abuse they have had to endure. My heart breaks for all her children. She's a very young mom (24 years old) with 4 children, her 10 year old being her oldest and the 3 year old being the youngest. I don't wish anyone to have to go through something like this. It was so awful and hurtful to hear a child talk about something like this. Needless to say, I really needed to have a glass of wine at the end of my work day and go to bed early! I don't know what to say. That's so sad and what's worse is that it happens everyday. I will never understand this. Prayers for the little girl and her siblings. Here's a hug for you. So sorry that you had to go through that.

It makes me sick that anyone could ever hurt any child! As hard as it was for you, im sure that little girl felt better having you there for her. Hopefully her life will greatly improve now!!

How I'd like to get my hands on that boyfriend (and mom). I have NO tolerance for child abusers!

I hope those children can get the help they need and deserve; it was nice of you to step in and give them the help they weren't getting from their mom.

It sounds (from what you posted) as if the mother may be very ignorant - and maybe abused herself. I'm assuming the boyfriend is the abuser. If she is the abuser, then I would definitely still go with ignorant. She was very young when she had that first child and maybe she didn't have a good example to follow. I'm not saying that what she did isn't terrible or that I don't feel sorry for the children because it is and I do - but I'm trying to find a reason behind it.
And thank you for what you did for those children.

This mother is surely in a distressing situation. She had 3 children before she even turned 20 Even if she had had the best parents in the world, how could anyone parent single-handedly 3 small children in their teens? No doubt she probably stays with the boyfriend because she needs the security. Probably didn't finish high school and has very few prospects. So so sad.

You did the right thing. SO MANY poeple dont want to get involved. We are supposed to watch out for each other.... and thats what you did. Replace the thoughts in your head with the image of her as an adult, and how she will talk about the lady who saved her.

I saw a similar situation years ago. My DS's best friend was being beat and kicked on the front lawn of the house as his mother stood and watched. The police were called but the boy wouldn't talk and without seeing the crime they could do nothing. This went on for over a year until the kids finally told their father. I don't know what he said to her but the boyfriend was gone within the week. I haven't spoken to her since that day and we used to be very good friends. I have no respect for a woman who chooses a man and her own physical needs, KWIM, over her children.
OP I wanted to add that I think what you did was commendable. More people should be like you.

Thank you guys for all your comforting thoughts. I woke up this morning and for some reason started to feel very sorry for the mom because as one the posters had mentioned the mom is probably very ignorant. mom is the one who beat the girl. I could not even start to imagine what it would be like to have that many kids at such a young age. I'm a head start teacher and work in a year around program so we've known this family for 4 years. The mom was starting to get her life on track by going to school, getting a part time job and then came the boyfriend and she just fell off the wagon. Which she's only had for about 3 weeks. I've been a teacher for 8 years and will never be able to fully understand why a person's child is not their number one priority in their life. Makes me so angry! Again, thank you for listening and letting me vent.

Thank you so much for speaking up for those children. This is hitting kind of close to home right now, a girl I went to high school with (a couple years younger) is facing a charge of child endangerment causing death and goes to trial in October. Apparently, her boyfriend was abusing her 2 year old daughter, and the daughter eventually died from blunt force trauma to the head. On top of that, at a hearing recently, the 2 year old's aunts said they noticed the little girl was acting differently and had bruises on her pelvic area about two weeks before she was killed - but they didn't speak up or tell anyone about it when they noticed it. It's so sad. The boyfriend also goes to trial in October, for first degree murder and child endangerment causing death. I just can't believe there are people out there who could do this type of thing to a child.

I've only had to call CPS once and it wasn't that bad, thank goodness.
