Child Abuse? Really?!

I was looking through the articles on AOL and came across this one, which is actually a LiveLeak video. I watched the video and didn't think anything about it. Except if you read the excerpt that accompanies it, it mentions, (whether sarcastically or not) Child Protective Services being able to help the family pick a professional to help with their problem. Then, underneath the video, one of the tags it lists is "child abuse".

People have been doing this with door knobs and other innovative ideas for years. Now, in the era of snowflakes, this becomes child abuse?

:sad2:

Weird. It would never even occur to me to take my child to the dentist to have a loose tooth removed without trying to remove it first. The kids were usually the ones thinking of unorthodox methods to do so.

Cute video IMO. The dd looked quite happy about the "abuse." The cat on the other hand was a little frightened.

If this is child abuse, I'm in big trouble. I also have a little wooden box filled with "evidence" of the abuse...that's where the tooth fairy puts the teeth after she's paid up. :rotfl:

Most dentists will not pull a tooth until it presents a problem and wont' come out on its home.

My dd7 had this issue. And i dare say he even suggested all sorts of things (eating apples, wiggling, maybe even suggeseted a door, I don't remember. :confused3). She ultimately went to the oral surgeon next store and he popped it out in a second. (Pediatrician likes to be the nice guy and doesn't do any type of extractions or "popping" of baby teeth.)

But what gets me is--I swore I saw something like this on America's Funniest Videos.

Who is the nutcase that is calling this child abuse?

That phrase is becoming watered down when nonsense like this is labeled as child abuse.

I hope the statute of limitation has run out for me.

Yes! They did an entire segment of videos featuring creative ways to pull a loose tooth out. I remember cringing because I hated the feeling of losing a tooth when I was a kid.

To call that abuse is just insane.

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought it was way out of line to even mention Child Protective Services or child abuse in this situation.

I used to tie my tooth to a door, slam it, but then chicken out and run with the door!:rotfl2: I have popped out 2 of dd's myself, using a Kleenex to get a good grip on it! DS does a really good job of yanking them out himself!

LOL, I'll never forget my DD when she was 6, sitting in the bathtub and crying because her tooth was sooo loose but she couldn't pull it "cuz it's slimy!" :lmao: I took a tissue, reached over, tugged and showed her the tooth in the tissue. She stopped mid-cry, stared, then started laughing.

Hmmm, maybe I shouldn't share that, plead the 5th?

That's ridiculous to call it abuse. After seeing what one of my students is going through right now, to see people bandying this word about over asinine stuff like this really makes me want to scream. Abuse is not something to accuse lightly or to laugh about. It destroys lives, destroys families. I'm sorry, this just hit too close to home.

That video is adorable! Abuse? Hardly!

Reminds me of when my cousin and I decided to help our younger cousin pull her tooth (we were always being accused of picking on her :confused3;)). Tied a black thread to her tooth and to a doorknob. The thread broke and remained tightly at the base of her tooth, still in her mouth. Then we couldn't get the thread off. Sheesh...adults get so worked up about things.
