The cast:
Me: 34, 2nd trip to WDW (last time was 2001 but we only did MK 1 day does that count?)
DW: 36 also her 2nd / 1st real trip
DS: 5, ditto for him;
Some background DW and myself get Disney. We really do. We know way too many people who look at us like were from Mars when we talk about going to WDW and how we cant wait etc, and its at least a year and a half before our trip! (Did I mention weve only been to the MK, and only for one day?) But we really are Disney people. Ds has grown up surrounded by enough McDonalds happy meal Disney toys, Disney videos and DVDs to last a lifetime we bought them waaaay before we got married cuz were still both kids at heart, so hell be primed to go.
Im the trip planner and logistics expert in the family. DW is very content to let me spend hours at the computer exploring, pricing, reading every trip report written in case theres something I may have missed and might want to include in our trip. Ill read the guide books and attraction descriptions and she trusts me to make the right decisions and plan the most amazing vacation I can. Is she nuts?
Ive planned and researched this trip since last November (02) and have joined the DC, for the discounts and incredible Disney magazine and updates they send out, and decide to purchase an AP for myself for a healthy room discount at ASSp and 4DPHPs for DW and DS. I picked up tickets for MVMCP for the 9th, and as a surprise anniversary present for DW in July, got Tier 2 seats for Cirque on the 6th, as the rest of the days are dark days during our stay. She cant believe I spent that much on three seats for Cirque (did I mention were from Canada and our dollar, lets just say, isnt exactly at par with the US greenback?) But hey, shes worth it!
Karens best friend since grade 7 has come to spend the weekend with us in mid November (03) and we seem to spend the entire weekend discussing our upcoming trip and how were looking forward to it, and what attractions wed like to see and do, and generally hogging all the talk time, but amazingly Krista doesnt seem to mind at all! Shes loved Disney since she was a kid too (the Jungle Book was her favorite it gave her a love of jazz), but has never been in a position, or thought of herself as the type of person to go to WDW. Sure, she dreamed of going as a child but being Canadian it was always too far and/or too expensive to go. She's so excited for us.
Now it has to be said upfront that Krista has a sense of humour some might say its an acquired sense of humor but she cracks us up. She quick with a joke, and is an absolute delight to spend time with. We always have a blast when she stops in; and DS adores her too always sad when Auntie has to leave. Shes really a part of the family. Shes just a hoot!
So on a whim I ask her if shed like to come with us.
Youd have thought I shot her.
She cant believe Ive asked her. She cant believe shes got the opportunity (less than a month away) to go! Are you guys sure you want me to come with you? I dont want to be no third wheel or anything like that! Are you sure? Really? No jokes now, I couldnt take that. Really
Were sure! Weve already booked the hotel one more adult wont hurt; the rental car is looked after all she needs is airfare and her tickets! While wed enjoy this as a family vacation for just the three of us, we both know that the added element of having Auntie Krista with us will make the trip unforgettable, and that much more magical. DS loves Auntie Krista so shes making sure its okay with him too. Were all sure!
Auntie spends the rest of the day in a fog, and heads home after a whirlwind weekend that she never expected. Monday, Ive already booked her tickets for MVMCP, Cirque, and her 4DPH before shes even said shell come I just know she will!
Right as rain, she calls at lunchtime to say shed spent the morning asking everyone at work if shed be crazy to go? And they look at her and say What? Youd be crazy not to! Her boss tells her to go dont worry about the time - shes got plenty of vacation days WDW doesnt come everyday! Shes talked to her mom who Krista thought for sure would be the voice of reason but she couldnt believe Krista hadnt already booked a flight! So Kristas seen the travel agent and booked her flights to match ours, but shed like me to look after everything else. Told ya! The poor kids a mess now! She wont be able to sleep for the next three weeks!
This is going to be magical
