If your child gets the vaccine for Chicken Pox, can they still get them? I think I remember hearing that a mild case is possible, but Im not sure. DS has had the vaccine and he seems to be breaking out with something that looks just like Chicken Pox.

I believe that is the case but if your child gets the chicken pox they should be a very mild case with the vaccine.

You might want to call your Dr.'s office just to make sure.

I have seen kids having a mild case of them.

I had the chicken pox vaccine as an adult and I do remember seeing that it is possible to get it (I think about 10% do) but it is usually a very mild case. I'd call your doctor and have him checked out just in case.

My ds had the vaccine and ended up with a mild case of chicken pox a few years later. He still had the blisters on his trunk but it was mild.

Here in my area in NJ, chicken pox is hitting some local schools right now. And most of the kids getting it have had the vaccine. A 9 year old girl that I babysit just came down with a mild case of chicken pox, and she had the vaccine when she was two years old. They had to cancel Thanksgiving plans because of it. :(

DD had the Pox even though she was vaccinated. She only had about a dozen spots, while classmates of hers were just covered in them. We were glad she was immunized.

Thanks for the info everyone! I guess it is possible.
It doesnt seem to be bothering DS and since there really isnt much you can do for Chicken Pox, I guess we will just let it runits course.
I have asked 2 people today(my neighbor & my mother) and they both think it definitely looks like its it.

I've heard (but don't know if it's absolutely true) that the chicken pox vaccine doesn't contain all of the possible strains of chicken pox. It's similar to how the flu vaccine only contains the strains that are supposed to be the most common that year. So it's definitely possible to get chicken pox.

On the plus side, there are questions about how long immunity from the vaccine lasts. Actually getting the chicken pox provides lifelong immunity for most people (though not absolutely all of them).
