chicken pox question

How many people on this board kids have had the vaccination and still got the pox? Just worndering

A friends child was vaccinated but still got chicken pox. It was a very mild case.

Don't know if I ever got vaccinated, but I caught that crap when I was a senior in high school! Never so miserable in my life! Those little sores pop up EVERYWHERE and itched like crazy!

DS did. He got vaccinated when he was around 3 and got the chicken pox when he was 14, right during our WDW vacation! It was an extremely mild case, fortunately, but he still remained in the room the entire trip.

My DD had the chicken pox last November. She had been vaccinated, and it was a very mild case. She only had 10 spots and did not have a fever at all. My other 2 kids did not end up catching it.

Both DS13 and DS9 have been vaccinated and have NOT gotten the Chicken Pox (yet).

DD12 had the vaccination as a small child and then had a moderate case of chicken pox a year or so later.

My 3 kids have had the vacine and so far noone has come down with it. I got the pox when I was 22 but the Dr gave me some super strong meds-Herpes meds actually and it really kept them mild. I was still pretty sick though.Kind of embarrassing to have a guy call you for a date and have to say 'I can't, I have the chicken pox" He never called back. I guess he thought I was lying, lol!

It's not a 100% guarantee that you won't ever get it. I have never had them personally and it terrified me the first time I was pregnant. As soon as I was done nursing, I got vaccinated. Dr. warned me though, no guarantee. Heck, my sister caught them twice (9 years mildly & 17 years horribly) the old fashion way!

When I started in practice, I had several kids a year who had severe complications of chickenpox. Now, I rarely even see a case of chickenpox. I have had a few kids who had mild cases after immunization. I am not sure of a percentage, but it can't be higher than 1-5% at most. The incidence of shingles also seems to be much less than it was 15 years ago when I started. Another interesting observation is that I have never seen a single case of measles since I started medical school. I have seen rashes that looked like they could have been measles, but turned out not to be. By the time I retire, perhaps, there will be a new generation of doctors who have never seen chickenpox.

When I was a young child I was immunized and I still haven't gotten them (knock on wood) and I hope to never get them.

DD was vaccinated when she was almost 1 1/2. She had a mild case at 3 and again at 5. Both mild and both confirmed Chicken pox.

I had them in HS and as Hercules said, it was the most miserable thing!!

DS10 was vaccinated at age 4 and got chicken pox when he was 9. DS8 was vaccinated at 18 1/2 months and has still not gotten them despite repeated his exposure to his bro as well as at school and daycare.
That said, DS10 had a very mild case which is unusual in my family.

My son got the shot when he was 4....the vaccination had just become available and I had to pay for it.....$40 at the health dept. Anyway, a month later, he got the pox. it was such a mild case, we had to take him to the doc for a diagnosis and he wasn't even 100% sure that was what it was. I'd say about a dozen spots and they never itched.

Mine. DS5 last November.
Although he did have the very high fever at onset, it was a mild case. He had a doozy on his hand that itched like the dickens. The other dozen or so spots didn't seem bother him.

my best friend's nephew did. He got the shot and a few months later got a really bad case. His identical twin never got them.

Last week, 3 students in dd's 2nd grade class had them. They all had the
immunization!

My youngest daughter was vaccinated and got a mild case of chicken pox a couple years later. She had a low grade fever for about a day and around 50 spots.
