Hum, volunteered to start dinner for roomie and the kiddos, noticed no hamburger in freezer. I'm on atkins so it's been awhile since I've cooked anything for them. I'm working with Chicken Breast, Sauce and Noodles, I've got potatos, veggies, etc... but they have that all the time... wanted to make something different. Has anyone ever used chicken in spag sauce instead of hamburger/sausage? Do I precook chicken or just throw it in with sauce and boil till done? Thanks all!

I would cube it, cook it on high in a bit of oil until it is browned and cooked through, then add it to the sauce. ...Kinda like chicken nuggets in spagetti sauce over noodles! But it works!

My grandfather use to make it all the time. He used chicken breast on the bone. He would brown in a little oil and then add it to the sauce and let it simmer until it was done. Remove from sauce, cool, debone and add back into the sauce. It was actually really good. And I normally don't care for spaghetti.

I use me crock pot and just throw the chicken and sauce in it. I let it cook until the chicken is thawed then I cut it up into pieces, not any particular size because it depends on my mood:p It usually cooks 6-8 hours depending on the day. I then cook my noodles and sometimes add motzerella cheese to the chickenand sauce.

I have made this in the past. It is called chicken caccitore (catch-a-tory). I am sure some Italian chef can correct my spelling. I usually make mine with roasted red peppers, onions and a small amount of hot Italian sausage.

I do this. I always cook the chicken first. It's really good if you grill the chicken first!:teeth:

I cut the chicken into chunks and cook it in half butter half olive oil. One the butter and oil is up to temp, add some oregano and basil and let that cook a minute. then add the chicken pieces. Once the chicken starts cooking add some lemon juice to the pan. Once its cooked then you can add it to the tomato sauce.

Thanks everyone will do. Girls haven't had something other than meat/stuffing/veggies in awhile (their Daddies cooking is a little limited) so I was trying to make some different, but not much to work with...lol!

Here's what I do for the guys in my house:

Half the chicken breast so it's thin. Lightly coat in flour. Heat about 2 tbsp oil in skillet. Put chicken in skillet. Cook until golden brown over medium high heat.

Meanwhile, cook spaghetti as directed and warm up sauce.

Put spaghetti on plate, top with chicken, and top with sauce over the whole thing. Add some fresh basil or parsley if you have or want.

ok I must be the only person here that is cheap.

Must have been the 10 kids I raised LOL. I have a bag of chicken in my fridge from previous dinners that have been left over. Some from whole, some from breasts I debone and cut up the left overs and add to bag. I have different bag with pork ie cutlets, chops, roast... Also bag of veggies great for soups. another bag of cooked hamburg. when making soup I can add the chix and veggies. or spagetti sauce the chix, pork, hamburg ( one or all bags depending on how many for dinner. If it is left over for this dinner it will make a great start for the next.

I put chix, hamburg, pork and sausages or what ever is available in my sauce. One of my sons would just eat a bowl of sauce with garlic bread.
