Chichen Itza or Tulum Ruins

Zika is present in that section of Mexico and as I understand it, travel there by pregnant women is not advised. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/world-map-areas-with-zika I have been to both places and they are very, very hot places to be. Chichen Itza was more interesting to me - but very spread out and lots of walking. Bathrooms at Tulum were poor. Just my two cents worth.

This is true and I have been looking at all the information. Neither Mexico nor any of the countries the cruise goes to have active travel health notices anymore. The number of cases is also basically 0 this year. I am moving to Texas in June and it has been there (military).

A lot will depend on how well you tolerate the ferry (this is true whether pregnant or not). We saw a lot of people being sick both times we were in Cozumel. It didn't bother me at all but I was surprised at the number of people who had issues.

Apart from that, there is virtually no shade or cover in either Tulum or Chichen Itza although there is perhaps a bit more in Chichen Itza. If you are at all affected by the heat and sun, it can be really brutal.

A drawback completed unrelated to pregnancy is that you have very little time there because of the distance. However, I personally was very glad to have been to both plus to Kohunlich near Costa Maya even though we had a maximum of 2 hours at all three.

I'm actually glad for the fact that we'd be outside for less amount of time. I figure a wide-brimmed hat is in order wherever we go. As long as I take something, I'd pretty good with the motion sickness. This ferry everyone talks about is making me weary, but I think it would have the same effect on me pregnant or not. Is the ferry ride or anything about the tour too 'rough' for someone who is pregnant? Most tours that are have a little note that expectant mothers can not go, but none of ruins tours have that on them.

If it was considered too rough for an expectant mother, I imagine it would say that. The waters can get quite rough but I don't think there's any concern specifically about anyone who is pregnant. Most people seem to get sick because the ferry goes up and down constantly; rough waters can make the ferry hit the water hard which can be jarring. I personally found the up and down motion to be somewhat hypnotic and there was only the occasional hard hit on the water. After such a hot day, the motion and the draining effect of the sun all day just put me and DH to sleep.

I always wear a wide brimmed UV protective hat, have lots of sunscreen, and take a bottle of water. Because I burn easily I also wear long lightweight pants and a shirt with long sleeves over a tank top (linen or cotton for all clothes). In Tulum, if you go near to the cliffs, there is a good breeze that helps to cool.
