Chicago weather question

We'll be in Chicago next week for the first time. I see the highs will be in the low 60's for our days. My question is light jacket or heavier coat? I'm told it will get quite nippy in the evening.

Thanks!

P.S. We're going to a Cubs game... so excited to see Wrigley field!

It looks like it's going to be in the 40s at night, so you'll want to be prepared. When that wind comes whipping through Wrigley, it can be brutal.

Be prepared to layer; that's the key to surviving Chicago's changeable weather.

Edited to add: Just an example - I keep my winter coat out to attend my son's track meets. Last week, I wore it, a hoodie and gloves because it was so cold with the wind. You can always take off a layer if you're too warm.

It's right on the lake which always brings cooler temps and higher winds. At night, it WILL be cold.

My husband is from Chicago (grew up within walking distance to Wrigley). As a family, we lived there for a couple years. I would suggest layers. The temperatures this time of year can be so unpredictable.

Have a great time at Wrigley. It's one of my most favorite places on Earth!! :goodvibes

my answer is to have both. You may be ok in the jacket for daytime temps, but once the later afternoon hits and the buildings are blocking the sun...you will be wishing you had a warmer coat...and possibly gloves. As the others have said, layers work great, having a hoodie to keep the wind off the back of your neck is priceless.(of course , you could always buy one if you want a Cubbie/Wrigley Souvineer ;)-get it outside the park tho, maybe a smidge cheaper) Depending on where your seats are matters too..say you are in the bleachers, you will be in the sun (if nice day) the whole time so warmer, but also in the wind. If you are 1st base side, shade hitting you there first, 3rd base line, some sun , longer if you are toward the outfield. As far as the rest of the city, if you are doing mostly inside things, then the jacket should be fine for day but again, the wind can get to you. Have a blast...the lake is just beautiful when the sun is shining on it and with the early spring the trees/flowers are in full swing and amazing!:thumbsup2
If you are going to a night game, coat for sure

And it is a wet wind off the lake so it feels colder!

Dress warm you will be sitting still at night and that is always colder than moving around. Remember your feet, so keep them warm even if it is April.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm so glad I asked. We've been in shorts and flip-flops here for a couple of months now. I had to dig out our winter coats for the trip.

We'll definitely be buying Cubbies hoodies for the game while we're there. We want to blend in. ;) My Astros jersey might not be the best choice. :)

Two more days... I simply cannot wait!!!

Nah - your Astros jersey would be just fine. Cubs' fans are some of the best I have ever met. If we can handle Cardinals' fans, Astros' fans are not a problem!! ;)

As long as you don't show up in a Sox jersey, you should be fine.;)

You may want to buy the Cub's hoodies before you get to the game to save some money.

I think we have a mini warm up on Wednesday:thumbsup2 Yeah, I get it if you want your hoodies from Wrigley, but Walmart, Penneys...you can save some $$$ if you purchase ahead. Then you have more $ for the beer man! I hope we see the "W" flying for after the game for you~ FYI, my fave place is Bernies by the park...nothing special to look at, but love the place. Have a great time, and maybe throw a poncho or 2 from the dollar store in your bag..just to be safe.

Oooh, tell me about Bernies. I'm taking tips on restaurants to try while we're there.
