Hi,

I'm traveling from Midway on May 30th (driving from IN).

Does anyone have info on road construction?

What would be the best route?

Thanks, for any type of advice.

you will take 80/94 to 294 .Everytime in the chicago area is under construction. 80/94 is being rebuilded and they are improving 294. 294 is the toll road and you will go north on 294 exiting at cicero. Head north on cicero and it will take you right to the airport. You will pay 1 toll which is 80 cents.Leave early and give yourself extra time.

with the road construction you will want to allow a little extra time.

Keep an eye on this. With the Dan Ryan rebuild everyone is looking for alternate routes and may cause unexpected delays.

If you don't have much luggage you may want to consider taking The South Shore all the way to the end of the line (Randolph street) in downtown Chicago. You will exit the station on michigan Ave. Walk one block west to the CTA Wabash street station. The station is elevated. You want to be on the west side of the platform. That would be the same side of the street the Marshall Field store (Macy by then?) will be on. The store is on the southwest corner. Take the Orange Line to Midway (the end of the line). Be alert, several lines run on those tracks downtown. Routes are named by color and will appear on the front and side of the train.

May not be what you want, but it is one option.

Here are the CTA and South Shore schedule

South Shore (select your origin, destination and weekday to get the schedule

Thanks, for the info everybody.

Hmm, Doesn't sound good.
My original plan was to go up Cicero.
I would be in that area about 1:30pm - 2:00pm, would you expect heavy traffic at this time.
Are there any side streets that might be faster?

I'm also considering United Limo from Merrillville.

Going up cicero won't be bad!
the only problem will be 80/94 just past halsted
the traffic backs up with everyone trying to get through the toll plaza to get on 80 west. stay in the far left lane and once you get past the back up in the right lanes for that toll plaza you will be fine and should have no more delays good luck and allow yourself a little more time.

I am one mile from MDW on the SW side of Chicago. The posters above are 1000000000% correct. The Dan Ryan is a JOKE.!!!!!!!!

HOWEVER, if you were to take the skyway ( follow the Chicago signs ) ....it may not be too bad seeing it will be a Saturday. You would have a few options on the Skyway.

-you can get off at St.Lawrence or State Street exits north..to 55th Street..BUT..these are not the best of neighborhoods at the time of day you are traveling.

OR...stay on the Skyway to the Dan Ryan...get off at 55th Street. ( its only about .5 mile to 55th Street off the Skyway. then west on 55th Street. to Cicero Avenue....AGAIN...going west on 55th Street you will travel thru Englewood...which as all of us Chicagoans know, is not the best of areas. BUT once you hit Western Avenue ( which is about 3 miles after getting off the Dan Ryan) you are home free .

or..stay on the Dan Ryan to the Stevenson ( follow the St. Louis signs ) and go to Cicero Avenue...at Cicero and the Stevenson...you will be about 1.5 miles from the airport. Go south on Cicero off the Stevenson ( I-55 )

One of the posters said take the Orange Line....just a bit of advice...parking at MDW is $12 or so a day...so it may add up on you.

If you take the 80/94/294 route and take Cicero Avenue north to MDW...beware of traffic congestion at 95th Street...and then again from 79th Street north to the Cicero Bridge....too much shopping going on there.

A limo may be your best bet...sit back and enjoy.

Either way...be safe and enjoy your vacation!!!!!!!!!!!

the tri-state bus will also get you there and you would not have to drive. I work for cta and I would not use them for a trip to the airport the service sucks. :moped:

I think the 30th of may is on a tuesday

Why would you want to park a train??

I work for cta and I would not use them for a trip to the airport the service sucks.

If that is true, I withdraw my suggestion!!!

we have a manger at cta that last work in the law department. This lady is clueless about the service. I work on the bus side and she once told me to stop at every bus stop regardless if someone wanted to get on or get off. Very smart person, she helps to run the system. :rotfl2:

Whats a manger?
Is that where Christ was born?

Wow, Manning you are a real "hoot"....HA HA

If you cant figure out what i meant by taking the train and NOT parking at MDW for +/-$12 a day...thats your problem..not mine...CHILL OUT DUDE.

we're trying to help the guy from Indy.

Ill reserve further comment towards you !!

to the OP...sorry, i didnt have my date book handy ...YES May 30th is a Tuesday. However, you may be ok taking the Dan Ryan at that time of day...traffic heading into the city and exiting before hitting the Kennedy may not be all that bad.

Cicero Avenue from 294 heading north on Cicero will not be bad at that time of day. You are actually heading into the city at a good time...BEFORE RUSH HOUR.

either way...safe travels to you and your family. :hourglass

I didn't know I was taking the Dan Ryan. I thought it was the South Shore and Orange Line. Oh well, sorry!!

*STAY OFF THE DAN RYAN*!!!!

I would take 80/94 west to 294 north. 294 North to 55 east. Get off at Cicero South. Midway will be down on your right (west) side.

I wouldn't get off at 294 and Cicero b/c it's quite a ways down Cicero to get to Midway. Seems that 55 may be a little bit quicker.

We will be coming from Las Vegas for a hour and half layover at Airport (Midway) and time will be around 830pm are there food places to get something to eat? thanks for any info

Paticake...
if you are laying over try to eat at the Illinois Bar & Grill in the food court. Another alternative is Harry Caray's. Both are in the food court area and both are very good.

Manning....Did I spell everything correctly ??????????????
