Chicago Marathon 2018 (Oct 7th) DIS Meet Race!

Still looking for a way to UNlike a post... lol
:eeyore:

agreed!

As someone who wore long jeans, thick socks, sneakers, and a hoodie to the pumpkin patch this weekend and the sun came out around lunch time despite it being the high 60's....don't overdress!!! I wasn't running of course, but I was feeling a little too warm and silly for overdoing it. Gonna be shorts for me for this race.

NO overdressing. I'm going to be in shorts and a tank top!

I spy my favorite part of the city...the buckingham fountain!!!! Swoon. Excited that my corral is fountain adjacent and will be on the medal :)

I'm guessing the little top portion is see- through right?

not sure either but the stars are from the chicago flag. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Chicago

That is the Chicago Picasso. For many of us it is as well known as the Art Institute lions. The following description is from Wikipedia:
The Chicago Picasso (often just The Picasso) is an untitled monumental sculpture by Pablo Picasso in Chicago, Illinois. The sculpture, dedicated on August 15, 1967, in Daley Plaza in the Chicago Loop, is 50 feet (15.2 m) tall and weighs 162 short tons (147 t). The Cubist sculpture by Picasso was the first such major public artwork in Downtown Chicago, and has become a well-known landmark.

Publicly accessible, it is known for its inviting jungle gym-like characteristics. Visitors to Daley Plaza can often be seen climbing on and sliding down the base of the sculpture.

The sculpture was commissioned by the architects of the Richard J. Daley Center in 1963. The commission was facilitated by the architect William Hartmann of the architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Picasso completed a maquette of the sculpture in 1965, and approved a final model of the sculpture in 1966. The cost of constructing the sculpture was $351,959.17 (equivalent to $2.7 million in 2018), paid mostly by three charitable foundations: the Woods Charitable Fund, the Chauncey and Marion Deering McCormick Foundation, and the Field Foundation of Illinois. Picasso himself was offered payment of $100,000 but refused, stating that he wanted to make his work a gift.

@LdyStormy76 had it right. The Picasso.
I always say it looks like a giant baboon. But the intention is that it looks like a woman...which kinda makes more sense when you view it from the side while squinting. It is very good for sliding down.

@cburnett11 NYC corral assignments are out. I am Green, Wave 1, corral A.

My college mascot was the Green Wave, so I approve.

Bwahahaha!

If anyone was placing bets on at what point this week I'd start getting really nervous...riiiiight about now. I'm getting really nervous!!
Obviously I’m not running Chicago, but Lakefront, and I’m right there with you! Nerves are starting to kick in big time, especially since my training has really suffered the past few weeks. The weather outlook isn’t helping.

That is a really cool medal. I think it's better than last year's anniversary medal.

Good luck to you all! I'll be cheering for you from across the lake!! :cheer2:

Still whining that I can't be there, but my BFF is running, so if you see a petite, forty-something year old redhead with Merida-like hair, please give her some encouragement for me.
