Who here has been to the Chicago Lights festival on Michigan Avenue? We really want to go this year (this coming Saturday), but have never done it before. What are crowds like? I guess any tips at all would be helpful.

We'll be coming down from Wisconsin, and because of committments in the morning, we won't be able to leave until 10 a.m., which will get us to Chicago around 12:30. We plan to take the blue line train in to downtown from Rosemont.

What is train service like on that day? Will it be hard to get out of Chicago after the parade?

I just have no idea what to expect. Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Thanks!

It is a lot of fun... but the crowds have grown tremendously over the years. The city does prepare for it with heavier train service, etc.

The last time I went was about 5 years ago. The crowds are unreal. It's good that you won't be driving in that mess. The shops and restaurants are packed to the point where you can barely move.

I guess I don't have a lot of practical advice but just be prepared to move at a snails pace and wait. I keep thinking I'd like to do it again because it is fun, but I just can't bring myself to.

you can stop driving earlier if you are coming down 94. park at the skokie swift and take that into the city. there is a transfer at the howard L, but you only walk 12 feet across the platform. parking is cheap and probably easier than at rosemont.

Thanks for the tips so far!

Just bumping one more time in hopes of additional advice now that the weekend is almost here. :)
