Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

The wind was blowing straight out today. I've rarely seen it that strong. You really can't fault the pitching today. Some of those homers would have been simple pop ups any other day.
Heard that whoever hit in the 4th/5th?, might have been Marte' for the Buc's...wind carried it literally 60 feet~that JHey was there then it just carried over.

Zobie as leadoff? He's batting .171.

And the bullpen isn't really holding down the fort in CJ's absence.
Well, Pedro is always a gamble, you know he is going to allow a least 1 on and you remind yourself how awesome our defense is and stay calm knowing they will usually convert any mistakes he makes. Reliever, tough job~no doubt.

"HOPPY" EASTER BIRTHDAY AAJ!

There were a couple that were just barely home runs, either in the basket or in the first couple rows of the bleachers. They wouldn't have even made the warning track on a normal day. The Cubs just didn't get under the ball to get it into the wind.

Clearly, I jinxed Grimm with my post yesterday :guilty:. Saw an awesome Cubbie Easer Bonnet tho:thumbsup2 While the bullpen fell apart again, not capitalizing bottom of the 7th was just as brutal. Joe West, meh...his calls..guy just needs to retire.
HOW' BOUT LESTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HOW' BOUT WILLY'S ARM! Guy's did their jobs, for sure. JHey starting the rally to the run, (ok, error rally) and LaStella soming thru..all good.

Yea I just don't know what to say about the bullpen anymore. I was frustrated with them last year and I'm honestly not even sure I can stomach watching them right now. They really make me sick.

I didn't watch the game today. Good thing, too. What a frustrating game. Leaving bases loaded with 1 out and then Uehara and Grimm. Ugh.

I've always said "You can't win in April, but you can sure lose in April!" We're .500 and not even close to losing. Yet. Let's see how we handle the Brew Crew this week. We need to shore up our bullpen because right now they are the weak link.

They were .600+ for most of the season last year and you were frustrated? *I* was overjoyed!

We need to start demoting these bullpen guys who can't get the job done. Rondon, Edwards, and Davis are the safe guys. These other jokers need to start getting an earful like Duenning, Strop (straighten your hat too), Grimm, Uehara.

Actually, Uehara had a bad game but he's been good overall. Just throw strikes man.

Do you have the stats before we traded for Chapman and Montgomery? Additionally, there was a point in the season where Maddon stopped using his bad pitchers and he almost went exclusively with Rondon, Chapman, and Montgomery in games they were winning. He lost complete trust in the other guys. The media was even making a big deal about it asking Joe why he wasn't using other guys.

The Cubs acquired Montgomery on July 10th. They were 52-35. They acquired Chapman on July 25th. They were 59-39.

Its not just the Cubs..honestly the Pirates bullpen was way weak before our series. Cleveland, STL,Toronto all in last. The Reds in first followed by the Brewers..quite the new season . Personally I would like to arrange keeping Travis when he, Hammel and Soler get their rings tomorrow night :rolleyes1
Only viable explanation?

The Boys miss Rossy!!!!!! (and Dex too, things aren't as good over in his new digs either)

Well Joe does like to mix things up , let's see what occurs, if anything. Still so early and once Zobie breaks through the vibe will change. Javy still swinging at dirt but we have seen him do his homework and step up, so it will happen again. I think he fell back into old batting habits a little on Team PR :rolleyes1 but Having Jay and AAJ split time may need a little more tweaking, maybe not. In the meantime the defense is thinking and producing..and the hustle is happening & our starters have been stellar (Kyle with a few tiny, minor bumps) That said, we have a tough schedule, no doubt about it so let's see if this was a little wake up call. Also Miggy going to be in a lot less games so his at bats will be sporadic. I wonder how Rob Z had been doing...:scratchin

Well, they had a bad 2 weeks or so right before the All Star break - I wouldn't be surprised if they lost 3 in a row during that stretch.
that was a brutal stretch...but it will happen again. I am just keeping fingers crossed the players stay healthy.

We have a dozen games still to play in April,

Yeah, I keep telling myself that even the best teams will lose 60-65 games, but getting swept by the Pirates sucks.
