Offense was brutal. Kyle is the only one who brought his bat to the game. Bryant? Did Bryant put in any work at all in the offseason or did he think he was Babe Ruth because he won MVP last year?

I honestly think it was nerves with KB. Should he be able to handle that? yeah, but I think that is what was up.The nerves should have been on the Card's tho,IMHO they were so excited they won because they didn't think they were going to. April is always an interesting baseball month. That said...we lost to STL opening day of the '15 season and we knocked them out of the playoffs(Lackey game)~so tonight is actually a good sign That bomb by Willy? This young team is dangerous.

OK, so am I the only one who raised an eyebrow at Dexter's slide into second when Addie got him out? His right right foot, dude...Joe took the high road not challenging that but if Addie had been hurt

A lot of people are talking about that play. I don't think that Dex tried to hurt Addie, but it was a hard, aggressive slide. I *do* think the slide was illegal and Maddon should have had it reviewed.

The new rules say:

When sliding into a base in an attempt to break up a double play, a runner has to make a “bona fide slide.” Such is defined as the runner making contact with the ground before reaching the base, being able to reach the base with a hand or foot, being able to remain on the base at the completion of the slide (except at home plate) and not changing his path for the purpose of initiating contact with a fielder. The slide rule prohibits runners from using a “roll block” or attempting to initiate contact with the fielder by elevating and kicking his leg above the fielder’s knee, throwing his arm or his upper body or grabbing the fielder. When a violation of the slide rule occurs, the offending runner and the batter-runner will be called out.

yep, I agree it's hard to get used Fowler as a Cardinal. I am SURE Metheny has been all over keeping Dexter happy , but he (Metheny) wants the Cubs bad and he will pull out all the stops, like telling Dex to get away with that slide. Welcome to being a Dirty Bird, Dex. Like I said, Joe(and Addie) took the high road~first game opposing Dex etc., but pretty sure all bets are off now.
I had DVR'd the game and just re-watched the slide~ Dex may just want to send a thank you to Maddon as clearly Metheny could care less if Dex pays the price as long as he takes out Addie (or Javy if he had been covering 2nd).Metheny was looking for a Schwarber moment there, having the Cubs lose a key player atthe start. Dex may be trying to bring all the Cubs team ways to STL, but they will never have the bond the Cubs have. That said, the slide could have been worse, but the damage is done..game on.

wow....watching the game and Piscotty a magnet for the ball in a bad way I have never seen one player get hit by a ball 3 times in a single game (let alone all in the same inning) before Hopefully he is ok, contusion being reported. Not a STL fan but never like seeing players get injured.

He tends to not have a middle ground, sporadic. I believe you may see a better performance at Wrigley. He had a great play at 3rd tonight. Defense was awesome tonight all around. Enjoy the W, Dude!
