Thank you everyone!

I did hear about Aqua Dots, I'm getting soo happy that 99% of their toys are the wood Melissa and Doug stuff and the rest is vintaged from Sals and My youth! :)

I did learn about the AquaDots via the DIS (hey, it's the only place I get my news more often than not!). My thought is HMMM....DVD's sound like a really good choice this year.

I'm the one hosting Thanksgiving this year but it's not too bad. Just my parents, brother, his wife & their 2 munchkins.

We are planning on going to the Museum of Science & Inudstry the day after Thanksgiving -- we figure it's either going to be packed to the gills or completely empty because everyone will be shopping. ;)

Tonight is DD's first game for cheerleading. It should be interesting as all the girls haven't gotten all the uniform pieces yet, since I was expecting DD to have to wear her uniform to school & she told me they aren't doing that today because of that. OK then...Hmmm not sure how that is going to work come game time. It's been a very weird year for cheering and it's just started. They have a new coach & she does things so differently. Last year the girls went in & decorated the basketball players lockers on game day. This coach doesn't believe/like that so the girls aren't doing it this year. The kids thought it was fun last year (DD did anyway) . I know on the last game the boys went in & decorated the cheerleader's lockers which I thought was cute when DD brought home her decorations. I suppose I should be happy, I don't have to drive DD early to school for it but it just seems weird to me. I know in HS they decorate lockers (or they have in the past because I've seen it walking down the halls). She also didn't want the girls tumbling this game. :confused3 I can see if there were girls who couldn't tumble but there are 4 girls on the team that either have been in gymnastics or are currently gymnasts -- the tumbling is *so* low-key easy for them (it's 1/2 the reason DD's a cheerleader as they don't offer gymnastics in middle school, so she likes to do the tumbling). They've never had the whole team tumble just the "tumblers" which DD is one. DD told me they overruled the coach, so I'm not quite sure what is going on with that one. If they convinced her to let them do that or what. Should be an interesting game by the time I get there today to see what the girls end up with/doing. I usually miss the first team's game and show up 1/2 through B team.

The fun part is going to be that I'm planning on taking the 7 year old. He has really taken to basketball & he has practice today for his park district class but I think it will be fun for him to see older boys play a full fledged real game. He has seem them before but he hadn't taken classes then and he is notorious for playing defense even if his team has the ball. :rotfl2: Basically it doesn't matter who has the ball, it can be one of his teammates and he goes and tries to block them from making a basket. We are working on that.

Ok, let's see if I can finally finish my TR. Part 7:

After my lunch at WCC, I had decided to go rent a little speedboat at the marina. I had done that a couple of years ago at CSR, but it wasn't that fun because it was pretty slow and the lake was pretty small. But the boats on Bay Lake/Seven Seas Lagoon looked faster, so I thought I would try it. I was right! It was sooo fast! I couldn't even go at top speed because it was freaking me out! :scared1: I think the boats are the same at both places, so they must have made the ones at CSR slower because the lake is smaller.

But it was sooo cool going around the lakes! I went around Discovery Island. There was a skeleton hanging on it for Halloween. I was afraid to go too close to the Contemporary because she had warned me not to go into a certain area because that was where they do the boating for the parasailing. (I might try that sometime!) I wasn't exactly sure where that area was so I moved on. I went by the side of the CR to go through the little waterway to SSL. It was a no wake zone so you were supposed to go really slowly. It was sooooo slow. It just about killed me going and coming. And then everybody else that was going had slowed down but they had a wake. Not slow enough! There were quite a few little boats around that I had to dodge, but over in the SSL I had to dodge the ferry boat! I decided I should go behind that one and not try to beat it. I went by the GF and the Poly.

It was crazy when I would cross another boat's wake. My boat would start skipping on the water. That was the scariest thing! I tried to avoid it as much as possible. When I woud go on a curve I would get the spray of the water in my face, which was neat. I totally felt like I was on Miami Vice! :cool2:

I did that for 1/2 hour. Definitely fun! I wouldn't do it at CSR again, though. Bay Lake/SSL are fun, and I would try it at POR/POFQ/OKW/SSR/DTD, that area, since there's the river to go up and a lot to see. (Esp. the Treehouse Villas!)

Then I took the bus over to DTD. That was a cute ride. There were a couple of men (brothers, maybe) with some boys. One of them was holding a baby, maybe a little under a year old. The man with the baby was sitting next to me, and at first the baby was looking around, and I was making faces at him. Then he started to get sleepy. His eyes started to droop. The men kept asking me if he was asleep, and I was like, not quite. Finally he was asleep, but one of his eyes was still open a little. :confused3 So I told the guy and he reached around and closed his eye. :rotfl: They were so excited that he was asleep. :woohoo: I saw them later at DTD. I think they were going to meet up with wives and daughters who had been at BBB, so they were hoping he would sleep. :goodvibes

So I shopped around DTD. I went to the Christmas shop first, to see if they could add the date to the ornament I had gotten for my neighbor's grandson. The artist said yes, but asked the CM to check and see if someone in the back could do it. So the CM mysteriously took it in the back, and then popped out a minute later to ask me if I wanted pixie dust on it. :confused3 She said it would look really cool, so I said ok. Finally she brought it out and it had the date with a bunch of little doodles over on the side, including a HM, which did look cool. So success on that one.

Then I went and browsed in the Art of Disney. I would love to get all those Big Figures! Then over to Goofy's Candy Co. Yummy! Since I'm doing Weight Watchers (I've finally lost 1.8 lbs  ) I got the chocolate covered marshmallows dipped in sprinkles done with the custom preparing rather than something worse like the rice krispie Mickey (although I did have to buy one of those, which I haven't eaten yet :rolleyes1 ). Then I got some other things, like those gummy hamburgers that I LOVE. (The ones in the individual packs are better than the Build-a-Burger packs you can get that are large. However, they're not as cost effective.) Actually I think that may be all I got. I resisted pretty well. :rotfl2:

I went and bought some pins at the pin place, and then went to the WoD and Once Upon a Toy to try to find these Halloween Mickey pumpkins I was trying to get as a souvineer. While at OUaT, after I had finally found the pumpkins, I decided to finally get a Mr. Potato Head! After a CM explained to me that the large MPH that you fill allowed you to get waaay more than a box, and I decided that it was indeed cost effective (well, if you need to get a ton of MPH stuff :rotfl: ;) ), I started looking for pieces. The CM had told me that she would help me pack it in the container when I was done, so I just went around grabbing stuff. I couldn't get nearly as much as I could when I did My Little Pony as a present last year. That was kind of frustrating, since the pieces were so much bigger. (Not that I didn't get a lot of pieces, just that there was a lot more that I couldn't get...I think there are also way more pieces for MPH. That's why I decided to go for the large container.) So I was starting to run out of time. I had to get back to WL to get my DME bus. The CM was telling me what I should go back and look for, and finally I had to just say, I'm out of time, I've got to go. My dad would absolutely flip if I missed my bus/plane because I was picking out MPH pieces! (He was picking me up from the airport that night at 10:15pm, which is very late for him already.) Plus the shame of it all, having to tell people why I missed my flight. :rotfl: So I checked out and hurried to grab a cab (which I was planning to do anyway, since that way I could stay at DTD longer and not worry about the timing with the buses). Luckily the cab got me back quickly and I was in time, and of course the bus was 5-10 minutes late anyway.

We had to stop at a couple of other resorts on the way, I think Poly & GF, but I can't really remember now. Otherwise it was an uneventful trip, and at the airport I actually managed to fit MPH in my suitcase so I wouldn't have to carry him on the plane! :rotfl: I had some yummy nachos at the airport, my last vacation food splurge. :sad1: I had an uneventful flight as well, and I got into Midway a little early.

That's about it! :yay: Hope you enjoyed it. Maybe I can work on my pictures this weekend. :rolleyes1

Leigh- enjoying your TR! Sounds like fun.

Know what is not fun? Getting woken up to "Mommy, my stomach hurts!". DS spent the next 12 hours doing his best Linda Blair impression. We'll just leave it at that. Now I get to watch dd for signs of it! The school called asked if he ate hot lunch yesterday, because so many kids are out sick with the stomach flu. Dd ate it, too, and she is fine, so I am sure it is just going around.

This is the longest part of my day - the last 1/2 hour being open.
At this point, I just want to go home - I'm tired!!
But when I go home I have work to do. I have to put sheets on my bed, and finish doing some vaccuuming. I wanted to do this in the morning, but Stephanie called me from school needing her library books that she forgot. If she wasn't taking a test over one of them, I would have allowed them to be late. But if the book isn't there, than she can't take the test (Accelerated Reader). Luckily she passed the test, and therefore it was worth running the books to the school :thumbsup2

DMM - How's Roman doing today? Do you have to give him the Nebulizer every 4 hours, even in the middle of the night?

Becky - Good luck to your DD tonight :cheer2:

Leigh - Thanks for such a great TR :) I love the Art of Disney store - I always walk out of there with something:rolleyes:
Last time it was Cinderellas Castle :teeth:

Paint - I'm sorry to hear about your DS not feeling well :guilty: Sending lots of PD his way to feel better soon :wizard: :wizard:

Well, that's about it from me tonight
Have a good day today everyone!!

There is a stomach flu going around, I had it and my mom did. It usually lasted us 72 hours before we felt better.

Hey, who's up for a DIS Meet? JennyMominRI and EdDad are coming out here Thanksgiving weekend, and I thought it would be good to have a meet. They will be here Nov 23-26. Who's in? Looking at that Sunday.

Stephanie's teacher is calling me at 7:30am this morning for my parent/teacher conference. She's doing that, because there's no way I can get in for a face to face conference. I thought that was nice of her to call me.

Amy - I'm sorry to hear that you and your mom were sick:guilty: It's good you're better now. Does your mom DIS anymore? If so, tell her to come by and say "hi". :)

What the heck - I can't answer about a DIS Meet for everyone, but I won't be able to come. I already have plans for that weekend. We'll see what other say.

Well, I gotta run - have a good day everyone!

2sweet, Slo, and geffric- Thanks for the pd. Ds seems better today. He ate some cereal, which kind of scares me. Not what I want to see again. So far, so good. Apparently, his school had almost 50 kids sick yesterday! They are a small grade school of around 200. Yikes! My friend works there and said the kids were dropping like flies. Since some of you read this during bfast, let's just say the janitors were busy.
Ds is staying home today, though, as he was up sick at 4. He is going to his dad's today. I think he just needs to rest and watch t.v.! I am off to work in a bit. I also work tomorrow night. Good tips on a Saturday night! I need them for my Disney and wedding fund! I am off on Sunday, so while df watches football, I might take the kids to see Fred Claus. It looks kind of dumb, but xh already took them to see Bee Movie. Anyone plan on seeinmg Fred?

I hope you guys don't mind me jumping in on your thread. As you can see, I am not from Chicago. However, DH and I are leaving for Chicago Monday morning for a three day visit. I was just wondering if you can tell me what you think the weather will be like. What sorts of clothes should I pack to do shopping during the day? Any must see things that you recommend? DH will be doing a conference for work so I have some shopping time during the days.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
BTW, we fly back home Wednesday afternoon so it will not be a long trip.
Also, DH said that our hotel is the Embassy Suites across from the lake.

Not too Cold.50s. dress warm especially by the lake..

Have fun

Thanks so much!
I have been checking weather channel, but I figured you locals could tell me more. We are in the Charlotte area so we have been having mid to upper 50s at day and upper 20s to mid 30s at night. It looks like that may be what we get there. I will pack sweaters and jackets, not heavy coats.
Now, I need to find some good shopping locations so I can occupy myself while DH is at the conference. Any suggestions?

Ok, IF I make it on to the Mom's Panel, I promise to tell the story, otherwise it stays in the vault.

I just did my final round interview, and hope hope hope to be able to help represent the mid-west (and Dads! :thumbsup2 )on the panel.

I must admit, the story about RatBoy isn't THAT interesting, but at least I'll offer that as a token sacrifice to the forum, in exchange for getting selected!:rotfl:

Well, I made it on the Moms Panel!!!   :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: In fact I'm the only "Dad" that did.

So, now I will make good on my promise (not really that exciting of a story, hope this doesn't disappoint too much!)...

So, where does the name RatBoy come from?

The username is simply a nickname I had when I worked at a supermarket company in S. Florida many years ago. One of the ladies that worked in a nearby cube was a buyer and always had free food from vendors. She would often share some of it with me (box of frozen buffalo wings, a 25 lb. salmon, etc.) -- sometimes by passing the food through a crack in the cube partitions between our cubes. Others at work thought this looked like I was being fed through a crack in the wall, like a rat, and they started to affectionately call me "RatBoy." As far as nicknames go, I kinda liked it, so I thought I'd use it again here. It has no connection to Disney whatsoever, and I'm soooo glad it didn't hold me back from getting on the Mom's Panel. I even tried to figure out how to change my username when this contest came up, but you can see that I never did figure out if/how I could.

Now I just have to figure out for the Panel is how to handle the fact that I'm a Dad, not a Mom.:lmao:

-Bret / RatBoy

Hi to all!
I can plan it. Anyone interested, please pm me so I know about how many people will be able to make it or would be interested in going. I'm thinking somewhere near Woodfield perhaps, but want to know how many will be there first. Also, if anyone has an idea on a location that might be better while I'm still in planning stages.

Count me in, as I kinda already talked to Jenny about it.

As for where, keep in mind they are staying near Rosemont, I think, for the convention. Also, I know that she really likes Giordano's, so that might be something to consider. (there is one in Rosemont on Higgins) Let me know if you want help planning it, because I will be glad to help out.
