welcome to your home away from home here.

we are a friendly group that likes to chat and get to know each other.
please do come back and be with us some more.

i'm in the northern suburbs near the wisconsin border.

more of the homies that post here are morning birds.
i'm the night owl and there are a few more night owls that post regularly here.

good to hear your high schooler is looking forward to a new school.

where did you move from? were you previously in illinois?
i'm orginally from down state illinois.

Thank you ! I came from upstate NY. It's beautiful here.

Welcome Castoff. Where did you move from? This is a great group. Just jump in and come back often.
Well, going to get ready for bed here shortly. Was at our softball game tonight (bookkeeping) and have to make sure all the bugs are out of my boot before I go to bed. Field was invaded by all sorts of critters tonight flying everywhere. Worse than the cicadas (just not as big).
Later

Thank you ! I am sure hoping the winters are better here then NY.:rotfl2: Although I should be used to the feet and feet of snow we got, I for one just don't care for it.

Our 4th of July was pretty good.
The parade we did was SO HOT!!!!!! We had to stand in the heat for 1 1/2 hours waiting for it to start, and then when it started, there were so many people. If you put the spectators together at the other 2 parades, that's how many were at this parade. This parade was alot of work - not enjoyable at all:sad2: I was so glad when it was over so I could go home and go into my pool. Then after we were home, the day was awesome!!! Good company, good food, good fireworks - just a great time!!!!!:cool1:

So, are you all ready for the heat this weekend?
I'm really bummed that I have to work tomorrow, because I want to be in the pool. But I can guarantee I will be floating in my pool on Sunday :teeth:

Donna - I'm glad you and Mark enjoyed Wicked:goodvibes . We still haven't seen it yet, and I really want to. We'll have to go see it soon!!!!

Mac - I haven't had an opportunity to send tons of PD for you DS:wizard: I understand his pain - it's awful!!!! I hope he gets better soon:wizard:

HERSEY - That's a bummer that power went out, but thank goodness it wasn't all day and all night. Did you buy anything good on your shopping trip? :)

Stitchfans - I'm so glad to see you!!!
I was so happy to read about your DD's wedding on your thread :) I'm sorry to hear about the awful caterer :guilty: Why is it with weddings, something always has to go wrong?:confused3 For me it was our hotel on our wedding night. We first had a **** roach in our room, and then magots on the couch:eek: it was awful!!!! (this was at The Radisson in Merrillville). But outside of that, our wedding day was wonderful!!
Bunchkin - Did you get to IKEA the other day? We need to go back there someday w/o our kids (Katie at least). I would like to really take my time looking around there. :)

castoff - :cheer2: WELCOME!!!!:cheer2:
Thanks for stopping by!! Please come by often - we would love to get to know you!!!

Well, I gotta go water my flowers :flower: and then get ready for work
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Thank you, My DD (13 ) really has been hearing about this IKEA store?:confused3 What is it and how much is it going to cost me to go there?:rotfl2:

Finally made my way over here.:goodvibes Thank you for telling me about this thread. We missed each other at the zoo by one day.:rolleyes1 We wen't on the 3rd and I bought the family plus membership. We will be going back alot. Very nice zoo. Just wondering why they charge extra for everything?:confused3 You would think that it would be included in the price, well anyway looking forward to the meet on the 22nd.:)

geffric, i missed the free dining program by 2 days.

but i did get a value room for $65 a night by using AAA for the discount.
right now the new code out gives you a value room for $69 a night. so i beat that rate.

the free dining would be kewl but i have used it for the last 2 trips.
last year i came back 10.5 lbs heavier.

this year, that ain't gonna happen. nothing over a 4 lb gain, i hope

When my kids were little, the only thing extra that they charged for was the Dolphin show...

MAC great rate $65 per night, do they do the AA discount on top of the AP discount? .. that is wonderful rate for the POLY LOL:rotfl2: Just kidding..

I hear ya on the dinning and lbs gained issue..

son not talking = welcomed quiet ;)

B]castoff[/B] Welcome. I have a 12 1/2 yr old son. He'll start middle school.

Slo :wave2:

/
Becky, PM me with some info where we can meet up at some midway point and I would be happy to unload on you. :rotfl: Does your son have a toddler bed? Otherwise, much of it won't be a big help as far as the bedding goes.
Hope your DD has a good week for camp. I saw weatherman calling for rain on M, T, and Wed. But he often is mistaken :rotfl:

DS is still in a crib -- we had plans to move him to a big bed this summer, the only problem is we don't have a mattress. We are working on that. Plus potty training...ah so many summer plans are not going well for me. Oh well. I'll PM and we can figure something out.

And -- of COURSE they are calling for rain next week since it's camp. We have come to the conclusion that DD's camp = miserable weather. I'm such the nice mom too -- I just force her to deal with it. It's not easy hearing about trees falling down and major problems where she is at & have no way of contacting her. I figure the GS camp is prepared and they'll call me if there is a problem. I know last year DD said it was *amazing* how the girls that had cell phones (which you aren't supposed to bring to camp) all seemed to have family emergencies. Strangest thing, she has been going to resident camp since entering 2nd grade -- last year was the first year that an entire tent full of girls all had family emergencies & all those girls had cell phones. :rotfl2: The thing is this camp is NOT cheap. It's over $300, so basically all those parents just gave up that money since they don't get refunds & it was only about the 2nd day of camp (it's a 6 day camp), so it wasn't as if they got to do nothing. I'm not willing to give up that much money when I don't have to (i.e. true emergency). I make DD stick it out but she loves camp so wouldn't want to come home early. Hopefully it won't be the huge storms this year where not only did the girls have to sleep in the storm shelter but sometime in the wee hours they had to go inside the safe room within the shelter. I'm hoping it will go better since this year she's going to a camp that the prequisite is that you have gone to a 6-day resident camp before & hopefully all the girls really want to be there. Sounded from DD's description the other girls that all left, didn't want to be there in the first place.

castoff -- :welcome: to the thread.

Mac -- where downstate IL are you originally from? My mom comes from Anna and my dad's gandparents were from Mt. Vernon.

Not much going on today other than DD packing for camp & us running out shopping to buy the things we don't have, including a mess kit. She *had* one, even a GS one with the silverware set but I opened the drawer where I thought it was stored and it had vanished. I have no clue where it is, so I'm thinking Gander Mountain should have something like it for camping, right? Nothing like waiting until the last minute for everything but that's my usually way of operating. I'm a great procrastinator but do manage to get everything done I'm supposed to (mostly) by the time it's needed.

Morning all.
Geffric, by foodalot are you doing free dining at Disney? :rotfl: Every year I want in on that, but every year something comes up. Next year, I plan to definately do it!!! (Just watch, next year it won't be offered.:rotfl2: )

castoff, were you near Niagra Falls side of New York or New York City side? We don't get as much snow around here as we used to, just windy/cold. Buffalo NY gets way more snow and not as cold. I think they have more fun. My kids don't like to go out around here even when we do get the snow since it is always so windy/cold. By the time I get them all dressed to go out, they spend 5 minutes outside and come back in.:rolleyes1

Mac, I would love for you to drive 2 (or 3) hours to come and help me out!!! What a great friend!!!! Thanks for the offer. If you leave right now, you'll be here just in time for lunch!!:rolleyes1

Slo, great for you that you had some sales yesterday!!!:cheer2: Here's hoping for many more today.:wizard:

Well, kids are getting ready for day camp and then I have a bit more time to :surfweb:

:lmao: My mom would tell me people would still occasionally ask her "where are you from?" even after she has lived her for quite a while -- usually she looks at them confused when they ask that though at this point. She moved up here when she was 18 and living up here ever since. This does explain why sometimes I say things a bit differently ;)

If I recall correctly, my dad's mom was born in E. St. Louis but I would have to look up all my stuff (I have done genealogy in the past so have lots of stuff), I don't know if she grew up there or was just born there.

Interesting.

Hello all you Chicago people! I need your help, I asked a question here once before and got all kinds of good advice. So here goes again: My DD and I will be coming to Chicago on a tour bus in August. We are thinking of going to Navy Pier. Can you give me some ideas on what Navy Pier is like. Things we should definitely do and things we should avoid (any advice at all really).

I've been to the Navy Pier website and we drove past it last time we were in Chicago and it looks like a lot of fun. I think we will ride the ferris wheel and swings, play mini-golf and see the stained glass museum and watch some of the entertainment (sounds like there's quite a bit going on). Not sure about the children's museum. My DD is 8, will she like it or is she a little too old? Then we hope to take one of the water taxis to Sears Tower.

We'll be in the area for about 6 hours. Will this be too much time for all we have planned. If we had some time leftover I thought of taking one of those trolley tours that I've seen.
Thanks for all your help.:)

great pictures Carmen.. how early did you have to get there?

Tina.. we are just missing you again. Boys and I are going to the Taste on Sunday... ( I think)

Carmen, great pix. Did you enjoy the concert?
traces7 not sure, but sounds like you have a lot on your plate for just 6 hours. I'm sure some of the Downtowners will know for sure, but I think it will take you a bit of time to get from Navy Pier to Sears Tower. Just being at the Pier alone, you could spend 6 hours easy. There are a lot of shops. The ferris wheel takes a good bit of time as well. It goes slow. Don't remember how long it takes to get all the way around, but my DH and DD loved it!!! I kept my feet on the ground :rolleyes1
We haven't been there in quite a while, but the last time we were there with the kids the Children's Museum was $$$ and I didn't think it was worth the money.
Someone who is more well acquinted will come and let you know better answers to your questions.

Just a quick drive-by! I wanted to share pics from last night's Police concert. It was rockin! :rockband:

Thank you for all of your warm :welcome: :)

so glad you came back and dropped in....
join us more often !
