Morning! So far, it is beautiful outside! I think there are supposed to be strong storms later. Thank goodness I don't have to go anyplace far. I hate driving in really bad weather! Anyway, I love having a chance to put DD in all of her new clothes (Target clearance!). Ds is a skinny guy and still fits in last summer's stuff. Oh well. Buying boy stuff isn't as fun. DD loves getting new clothes!
Crissup- Thanks for the Galena pic. Haven't been in a few years, but that pic brought back the pain in the butt parking! Hey, also, did you sit behind me at Wicked?
Slo- No packing yet. A lot of my stuff is still in storage from my last move! That will make things easier, I suppose.
Becky- Sat at 11:30 for us, too! See ya' there! Haha!
Okay. Off to do something productive!

Becky, I hope your DD isn't too sad this summer. Any chance she can wear the brace early AM and then later in the day so she is not in it during the hottest parts of the day? I suppose it is not a possibility to wear at night vs. day.

Not really a good way to work-around things. She has to be in it for 16-18 hours/day and that's on the easy side -- technically the more hours she is in it the better. Most kids have to were them 23 hours/day, so she got extremely lucky. I think actually just a more practical doctor, *most* kids don't actually wear it the 23 hours/day like they are supposed to so the 16-18 hours is more realistic to let the child be normal for a few hours/day. Since she does gymnastics & cheerleading while she is at class -- those count as her hours out of the brace. She will be doing those in the summer too & I know gymnastics is from 9 - 11 AM. (OH...that just reminds me park district on-line registration is in 15 minutes! LOL!)

I really don't like her to go more than 4 or so hours out of it. I'm always afraid we will be undoing the good it's doing so far and anything to avoid surgery as far as I'm concerned although she is definitely more terrified of a surgery than dealing with the brace. She's so on the borderline for the surgery that I don't want to do anything to push it over the edge.

There is conflicting reports though, she has to sleep in it since that would be more than allowed hours but the orthotist says the more hours she is in it while she's awake the better since gravity will pull on the spine more, etc.. while standing up than while laying down sleeping. Then the doctor says to make sure you wear it sleeping because that's a great time to get most of your hours in. BOTH ways make sense but logically it's not like she's going to be woken up in the middle of the night to put her brace back on, so she sleeps in it.

I know when she's at camp, she's probably going to cheat a bit but that's OK (we do that now for competition days -- out of it WAY more than supposed to be). I am fully aware of that but I want to make sure she at least sleeps in it that week. She's going to horse camp, so I know she can't really ride the horses with the brace -- she probably COULD but she's complaining it's impossible since she can't really bend, etc... ;) And then when they are swimming, she won't be in her brace and just the way camp is set-up with not always knowing what you are going to be doing next if you can do it with or without the brace on, it will be fine.

I'm sure she'll survive even if she's grumpy about it. She doesn't really have much choice.

Hey Debbie!!

Listen, honestly, I think the Hippy Dippy pool at POP is a lot of fun. It's just so "busy" around there and there are flowers that sort of squirt water into the pool, but there's no slide dagnabit! The poolside atmosphere is a lot of fun as they had a ping pong table, a nice little bar (for the big Kids ;) ) and the hair wrap/tatoo stations.

I've never seen a kid there who wasn't happier than a pig in mud!! Great music is piped in too, especially if you dig the 60s stuff!

Hello!! :wave2:

Reagarding WDW pools:
My kids actually are curious about the theming at pools. DD was just asking me about a particular pool's theme at WDW this morning!! :)
So it's not just me who wants to know! ;)

Anyone have any suggestions? I am looking to buy a new camera, nothing fancy, just need a good zoom and pixel quality!!

John That picture of Galena is nice!!! Love 'main street' areas like that!! There is a house in the background on the upper right side that reminds me of The Haunted Mansion in Disneyland!!! :rotfl:

piglet Don't be a stranger to the Chicago Thread!! :)

slo I say cancel all those appts and give your car a break!! ;) :rotfl:

hersey When does Alex have to have the castle done by?

Debbie Hey, there is no "fake" Greg!! His name is Sam!! ;)
And he's actually been with them for a while! :)

Here's a nice photo of downtown Galena for your viewing pleasure. Click on the photo for a larger copy of it...

I haven't been to Galena for lots of years, but we did stay at that very nice hotel right on the main street. The DeSoto. It was really nice, but I have to tell you, I kept my eyes closed at night while lying in bed because that place is old and I thought for sure I was going to see "something" floating by. It's a gorgeous hotel, but it has some history behind it.

If Bunckin thinks that mansion looks creepy, you should see Grant's House which is a few blocks over. :scared1:

Bunckin, you can't go wrong with a Kodak (which is what I have, two of them actually) and it comes with really great editing software. I have the Z740, which is great, but a little big for carrying around for a long while, so I ended up getting V705, which is about the size of a deck of cards and weighs about the same. I end up using the V705 a lot. You can carry it in your pocket and forget it's there, it's so light. Dual lense 7.1 megapixels and 5X zoom. Not bad really!

I have not been to Galena since I was in high school, too long ago that is for sure.

Becky ~ Late coming in here, so why does your daughter have to wear the brace? Does she have scoliosis??

Since it has been a long time since I first came here, and not even sure if I introduced myself then, I will do so now. My name is Kirsten (33) and I am married to my DH, Dewain (37) for close to 13 years now. We have three kids, Kevin (7-94), Nathan (3-99), and Lauren (5-02). I have lived my whole life in the south suburbs and we currently live in Mokena. I work PT at the Yankee Candle store in Orland Park, so you all should stop by and visit if you are in the area.

IBecky ~ Late coming in here, so why does your daughter have to wear the brace? Does she have scoliosis??

Yes, she has scoliosis. We found out 2 years ago. Her dad has it, so wasn't surprised. We were told we would check it the next year & if it seemed to progress we would then get referred. Silly me, listened to the doctor ;) Then when she had her sports physical again before school last year it was worse so we were referred. Shocked to find out she was borderline for surgery already with it! EEK! We got referred to Shriners by that orthopedic and basically we are doing the back brace first to see if that works. It's a Boston brace. She got it in December and with her first check, the brace brought the curve down about 50% & so they tightened it for her (we knew they would) to see if they can get it even better. :lmao: Surgery is still a possibility in the future but as long as the brace is working, then we don't have to deal with it.

Becky ~ My Dniece - 9 has scoliosis as well, but it was caused by an issue with her brain bulging and the skull not formed right. Kinda vague, I know, but I am not sure of the technical terms for it. She had surgery last October to remove a portion of her skull, and her scoliosis is already reverted some. She to will have to wear a brace, because they are trying to not only get it straight, but also give the spine a chance to get stronger.

piglet Is the Yankee Candle store in the mall? And if so where exactly?
I love Yankee Candles!!!!! :cloud9:

And if we're doing introductions......I'm Nicole, and I live near you in the Joliet/New Lenox area. DD is 9yrs old and DS is almost 5yrs old. I'm 36 and DH is 40.
Howdy!! :wave2:

Bunchkin The YC store is in the newer outdoor shopping center at 143rd and LaGrange. There is Coldwater Creek, PF Changs, Ecco, as well as about a dozen other stores.

Ahh...I think I know what you are talking about. It's on one of my scoliosis boards but I don't know how to spell it, Chairi? something like that I believe. My DD's is just plain because she lucked out and got those genetics. She's not too happy with her dad (both teeth & back are from him! ;) I'm only guilty of giving her the bad eyesight! :lmao: ) Actually, they don't know really any rhyme or reason for the causes, but can be a hereditary tie.

Debbie,
Here is the pool at POR. It looked really nice.
Linda
Thank you! I love the pic! Very helpful!
[qoute]

Debbie- As far as pools, the only mod we have stayed in is CSR, but their pool area is awesome! They have that Mayan temple thing and a twisty water slide. I love that resort! Sigh...

Thank you!!!

HSM...Anyone get tickets for the ice show? My mom bought tickets to take dd. I can't believe they were on sale so far in advance. I hope she still likes them monthes from know. I say this as she is sleeping on a Troy Bolton pillowcase...
My DD is only 4 and LOVES HSM!!!!! Got the tickets! Crazy how early they were on sale! I just saw a little clip on the Disney Channel showing the auditions for it!

And Becky I am the one I think who mentioned the Concert DVD. I am all over it!

Thanks! We have stayed at POP but for some reason I can't remember that pool. Are there more than one big pools there? Thanks!

Bunchkin...you Wiggle's pro! He is one lucky guy to be wearing that yellow shirt!

Oh and I LOVE:love: Yankee candle. My Mom is worse! There is never a time a Yankee candle isn't burning by her!

And Becky I am the one I think who mentioned the Concert DVD. I am all over it!

:lmao: I figured it might have been you since you are up on all the latest HSM stuff but I also think I *heard* it mentioned on the promo ad recently but who knows!! My brain has pretty much been scrambled lately so I'm lucky to remember my own name.

All I know is the ice show was a LOT cheaper than the concert & there had better not be a blizzard that day -- I think I'm leaving 3 hours early to get to the venue, even if it is a clear day! ;) :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I can sit in the car & wait for them to open parking lot or doors to the place much easier than backing my car out between a guard rail & illegally parked cars with police & tow truck driver attempting to assist me! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Kirsten... See you Saturday! HA!

Well, if any of you have spied my new siggie line, you'll notice something is different. Yes, I am fortunate enough to be taking a Disney cruise later this fall. :boat:

Why? Well, y'all remember I was planning a trip with Bunchkin for the free dining and MNSSHP, but the dates fell around the time of my anniversary, my 10th to be exact. Earlier in the year (or maybe late last year) I was bugging DH to go on a Disney cruise, but I got the brush off several times and he just generally ignored me. So, when ignored, I start planning my own stuff. I was planning to hit the Beach Club in September and pal around with the Bunchkin crew all day. I informed Dan of this a few weeks back (after dining was announced and I made reservations) that I was going the day after our anniversary and he could consider that my anniversary gift.

I got this face from him :sad1: and he said, well weren't you saying something earlier this year about a Disney cruise and why aren't we doing that instead? My face then went to this :headache: I told him, I asked you over and over and over and over about taking this special cruise (Margaret Kerry, the original model for Tinkerbell will be on board that week) and you basically ignored me and now that I have plans, you all of a sudden want to go. So, I had to shift gears and change plans because I wasn't going to pass up this obvious mental lapse on his part. I still need to call the CRO to cancel my Beach Club stuff. I think I might hold onto the ressie a few more days in case DH figures out what he has agreed to!

I didn't want to say anything late last week because I wanted to discuss it with Bunchkin first and throw myself at her mercy for taking her down this road only to leave her halfway to the finish line. Of course, she was very gracious about it and I really thank her for her understanding.

So, looks like I'm sailing the Magic on 11/3/07. :dance3: I have to admit I'm pretty darn excited, but will now have to start back at Weight Watchers in earnest... :scared:

:beach:

Crissup- Thanks for the Galena pic. Haven't been in a few years, but that pic brought back the pain in the butt parking! Hey, also, did you sit behind me at Wicked?

I took CarolAnnC there a couple of weeks ago for our anniversary. She's never really seen anything west of Chicago, so there's a ton to show her. In addition to Galena, we also ran over to Dubuque to hit the Diamond Jo riverboat. This now allows Carol to tell people she's been in Iowa *and* she's seen the Mississippi River. ;)

Couldn't have been me at Wicked, I've never been. (At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

John What ever happend to your sink hole of a driveway?
Did it get repaired?

Sam I'm looking for a larger room then 5x. I looked at a Kodak with a 10x and a 12x but I can't remember the model #'s right now.

piglet Thanks for letting us know the hours at the store!
I'm sure I'll be visiting there soon.:goodvibes
