Hi! I live in a northwest Chicago suburb...Huntley, IL...about 40 miles from downtown. Think cornfields...w/ new construction...that's where I live!:coffee:

Hey everyone! Just found this thread and had to pop on in! I'm about an hour NW of Chicago in Crystal Lake area.

Haven't read much of this thousand plus page thread, but I'll catch up slowly! LOL. Noticed everyone talking about their weekends, I took advantage of the weather and took my MIL to Brookfield zoo for her b-day present. She had wanted me to taker her out and about to show her tricks with her new Nikon digital cam. So we enjoyed some good quality time out with some cool creatures. LOVED the butterfly exhibit, but still nothing tops the one I saw in Toronto by Niagra Falls... the place was huge and amazing. Fiancee had a butterfly land on him though and hopefully give some good butterfly mojo to help his cold. Somehow (yes it's only September) I already have a terrible cold and have passed it off to him... suck... mine's almost over though, his is JUST starting (fun zoo day for him! LOL).

Other than that, a little about myself. I'm a director of film - mostly music videos and documentaries, but am weeding myself into features as well. Do tons of event work hired out. I love it, hopefully some day I can do a Dis film! ;) Been with my fiancee for over 10 years, and this coming October will be our first vacation EVER together that wasn't just a weekend trip to the next state over (i.e. - WI, OH, IN, etc.). :lmao: We'll be doing 6 days/ 5 nights at ASMU - with a quick day trip over to Universal since neither of us have been there ever in our lives. He hasn't been to Dis since '85, and me since I think '93... so lots of new stuff since our last trips. SOOOO excited! Just under two months to go! And we should be getting out travel packets fairly soon here as well!! :cheer2:

Hey there! I am in Huntley...I drive to CL all the time!We are going to WDW in October (coming up soon) and next Chirstmas 2008..very exciting!I had no idea that these community boards were even here until now and I had no idea that so many Chicagoland peeps were on the DIS! I am originally from Dallas, TX...but moved up here 3 years ago w/ DH of 12 years! Used to be a teacher, well, I am always a teacher...taught HS math and MS math for like 8 years and NOW I am retired to be a stay at home mom...believe me, I am still teaching...DD12 and DS2...:cloud9:

Welcome Texasteacher35 & Mjy

All I'm going to say about cornfields is -- who knew there were paved roads back there AND you can drive all the way to FL & not get lost but be detoured *very* late at night into the cornfields an hour away from home on your way back and get very, very lost. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: They really should name those streets. ;) And I don't even live in the city, so it's not that I'm unfamiliar with cornfields but never drove like that through one before. Oh well...it was an adventure.

PLEASE quit reminding me of this. ;) I got the e-mail today...I was trying to ignore it. I can handle the other dolls but thinking of a doll that is based in the '70's as "Historical" is NOT helping me with the fact that I'll be turning 40 next year -- I feel ancient enough with having a 13 year old around and the way some of these conversations go regarding "back then -- you know when the dinosaurs roamed the earth" conversations. :scared1:

Of course, then I was very confused why Dallas was on there for events because I had not heard of a new store opening there. Apparently they are opening a "Bistro & Boutique". I think the Chicago store is doing an event on the 15th for the new doll, we aren't going as sports have started now -- my life consists of being driver. :rotfl:

good tuesday morning chicagoland homies.
close all the windows and turn on the furnace day............

What a day! First off, SERIOUSLY BIG WELCOME TO ALL THE NEWBIES TO THE THREAD! Hey Mike, I used to live in Schererville and I graduated (a long time ago) from Bishop Noll over there in Hammond/East Chicago (whatever).

So, it's the sixth anniversary of the worst moment in American history. And the loser that caused it has to come on TV with his terrible Grecian formula beard and hair. He's not fooling anyone with that dye job!!

My stepson's meeting was this morning and what an eye-opener it turned out to be. Of course, he said all the right things, he's sorry, he won't do it again, blah blah blah, but even my DH asked him straight out, if you hadn't gotten caught, would you have stopped. He at least told the truth and said no. DH told him, then consider this a blessing that you did get caught and we are going to make sure you don't do it again.

The worst part and I wanted to jump over the desk and kill her, his mother took him off his ADD medication over a year ago. We were never told this!! I am screaming mad at this point! She said it made him feel woozy. Well HELLO, he has ADD and he needs to be on something. No wonder last year was one long run of detentions and outbursts. Apparently, that's what led to this whole mess was an emotional outburst that caused him to punch a locker so hard his hand is bruised and the locker is dented! I wanted to punch his mother that hard. He failed every class last year because he was unable to focus or stay on task. Well now we know why!! I am beyond angry and I told my DH straight out, he will not live at my house without being on medication.

So, he will be entered into an alternative school and one false move and he's out of there too. It's a sucky day more or less!

Anywho, enough of that! I think we are doing Brookfield Zoo this weekend. I heard it's supposed to get pretty chilly here over night the next few nights! Yeah! Kill that ragweed baby! Freeze it til it dies! I'm so sick of sneezing!! Blah!

Hey there! Good to find someone so close to me! Welcome to you too! (I'm so new here as well!)

SamIAm ~ I hope that this will be the start of a change for him. I too would have wanted to punch his mom for taking him off the meds. If he was woozy, maybe a doseage change was needed, not stopping the meds all together. Sheesh, did she not notice things get worse???

Welcome to all the newbies!!!

;) Pampered myself with a whirlpool pedi at the salon this morning!! :cool1:
Ahhh, it's the best!! :goodvibes
Going in Saturday to "wash that gray right out of my hair". ;)

I was thinking of what my mom looked like at around my age. I have this picture of her in my mind when she had my little sister. She had almost all salt and pepper hair already by the age of 38. A brown and white mix, with a good portion of it mostly brown. I hate to say it but she really looked old for her age. And now she's all white.

I swear as long as there are colorists in this world I will never be all gray!!

Sam WOW!!! He hasn't been on his meds for a year????
My gosh!! What kind of loser ex are you dealing with?? :headache:
And like Piglet said maybe if anything his meds should have been changed but NOT stopped. Any doctor will tell you that's the wrong thing to do.
Did Dan let her have it???

slo Congrats on 11,000 posts!! :cheer2:
Today please thank Kevin from all of us for all his hard work and dedication being a firemen !! ::yes::

paint How are the wedding plans coming along? :bride: :groom:

mac Aw come on, it's not that chilly out.........YET!! Just because it's going to drop down to the 40's tonight is no reason to crank on the heat. Is it???? ;)

Well Piglet & Bunchkin,

I'm not really sure what this dingbat is thinking honestly. Apparently, she noticed a lot of things over the past few months that gave her hints he might be abusing marijuana, but nothing was done about it?? I guess a 16, almost 17 year old boy burning incense in his bedroom is pretty normal?? I wouldn't think so, but that's just me. The first time incense gets lit up in my house, I'm gonna want to know why!! HELLOOOO??? The only thing gonna burn in my house is Yankee Candles, right Piglet! Boy I love that new World Line, but I digress.

Dan didn't give it to her today, but he is going to have a talk with a lawyer about what his rights are first. This lady's a real shark and he didn't want to tip his hand. So, when he gets back from fishing as he was able to salvage a few days of his trip, he is going to contact his lawyer and see what can be done about getting some things changed. Like the fact that she took him off his meds without our knowledge. He's not going to charge that she's unfit, but he wants more information and he wants it spelled out in a court binding document. We have 18 more months to keep this kid under our thumb. Won't be long now and he'll be 18. After that, we'll have no control over him or this situation. :confused3

On a brighter note, give me your opinion of this dress for Megan for formal night on the ship. Is it too casual or should I go the whole Princess get up for her? I really don't think she'd dig that, but she might. She does love the Belle Formal gown.
