Hello,
DHs birthday celebration is coming to an end. We went to Outback (We love that place) for dinner. It was yummy.

I started taking the tree down and tomorrow it will become firewood. I actually got my tree to grow! It is my goal every Christmas and this year it sprouted.

Good Night my Chicago pals!
Debbie

:

I'm going to go look at some furniture stores today. I need to figure out what kind of stuff I want and which stores I like. I want to buy stuff that's not too expensive, but not too cheap also. I'm trying to look at places online. Does anyone have any suggestions? Harlem Furniture seems to have stuff that I like. Does anyone have any experience with them? I don't know which places have good quality stuff and which places don't. :confused3

HERSEY...Did you book your next Disney trip yet?!

LEIGH I bought my entertainment center from Harlem I think it made well. We never bought anything else though.

Donna I haven't booked our vac yet still waiting for one more quote but it does look like the first week in Oct is it. I want to see the Mickey halloween party and the food and wine festival I always wanted to do that.

Debbie - we love Outback. I alwys get the steak griller. It comes with their wonderful salad and all the warm bread. YUMMY!!

WOW whole bunch of Chicago folks will be there the first week of October. I did F&W and did the little booths , very nice and lots to taste.I never made any of the seminars. I would love to do that next time.

Leigh-definately check out IKEA. Especially with your new place. You could really find a lot of things there. Check out their online site. We bought DS bed there before Christmas and for the money it is really great.

Leigh - we have looked at IKEA a few times too. They have a nice looking furniture. I have looked at Harlem but never bought anything there... we ned to get a living room set. Ours is 20+ years old ( it was DH's from way before we got married and it is UGLY) and it is finally getting worn looking.. but I don't know... if we will replace it... every financial decision is now weighed against college costs.. YIKES!!

I don't think people realize how great the lobster tales are at Outback either. We have NEVER been disappointed with them!

Lobster Tails?? At Outback really? I only think of steak and ribs ... I'll have to try them next time we go..

Sk8Leigh- How often do you have Chicagoland meets??? I joined Tops Nov 05. Did great starting Jan 06 and lost 36 lbs but from Sept to my weigh in on Thurs I had gained back 17 of it. OUCH! Goodluck with WW!!! Have you checked out IKEA for furniture??? My parents just purchased some nice couches from there and all of there bedroom furniture. I have been eyeballing somethings in the catalog. Good quality and doesn't break the bank!

For Meets, it seems to be every couple of months, but really it's just whenever anyone feels like planning one. :rotfl2: There's been some talk of a bowling Meet, so that might be our next one. And yes, OUCH with the gaining weight back. I had bought all these smaller pairs of pants, and now I can't wear any of them. I have about 5 pairs of "bigger pants" that I can wear, so it's the same ones each week. And one of the pairs of jeans is literally about to fall apart, and I'm wearing it to work! :sad2:

You said you have four kids. How old are they? (I myself am single and childless.)

Leigh-definately check out IKEA. Especially with your new place. You could really find a lot of things there. Check out their online site. We bought DS bed there before Christmas and for the money it is really great.

Thanks for the Ikea suggestions from everyone, but I've looked at their web page (never been there), and I don't really think it's my style. However, I might end up buying some smaller pieces from there.

LEIGH I bought my entertainment center from Harlem I think it made well. We never bought anything else though.

Ok, I went to Harlem. Get this--I walk in and there are about ten salespeople hovering near the door. I had read someone's online review that the salespeople were stalkers since they must be on commision, and boy is that true!!! So I walk in and while the one whose "turn" it apparently is is distracted with someone else, I turn right. And then I hear her calling after me and practically running up to me. She gives me a flyer and does her pitch, and I say that I'm not buying today, just looking. So she says to look around and if I have a question then she'll be close by. No, that can't mean what I think it does. But sure enough, I start walking, and she starts following me!!! She's following about 20 paces behind me! That's no way to browse!!! :furious: So when I saw her turn another way for a second after she caught me looking at her, I made a run for it and doubled back and went the other way!!! :woohoo: Shopping should not be that difficult! I finally found the bedroom collection that had looked the best to me, but I didn't really like it in person. I did find one that was pretty good, but it's not on the web site, which makes me think that it's been discontinued. If so, I might have problems getting it since I can't take delivery for a few months.

There were a few sofas that I might like. I have a feeling I'm going to end up buying everything at different stores. If I go back there and want to buy something, I'm going to look for someone who looks nice and non-stalkerish to buy from. ::yes::

I also went over to the Carsons furniture store. Their beds seemed to be about double the price of Harlem. :scared1: But probably better quality. I did find one that wasn't quite as expensive, and on sale now, but it probably won't be for long.

YIKES!!

I'm lucky that I'll be able to take a lot of stuff from our house, either permanently or just until I can get something new that I like. If I can't find a dining room set by then, I'll take our kitchen table and chairs and use that. (None of us want to keep it permanently. I'd probably take our dining room set except my parents want that.) But I'll have a guest bedroom set, and at least one recliner. And probably lots of random tables and chairs.

I got a new phone today. So I'm trying to replace some of my ringtones and screensavers. I've gotten a good Main Street Electrical Parade ringtone! I think that's what my friend's DD was asking me if I had on my phone before, although she didn't know what it was called. So now that's their song. :goodvibes It's so hard to learn how to use a new phone! And this one has bluetooth, which I've never had before, so I got a cordless headset. I charged it tonight (yes, you have to charge the headset :confused3 ), and I'll tackle that tomorrow. And the best of the phone is, after a rebate it's free! :cool1:

My favorite game that I play on the train isn't available for this phone yet, though. :guilty:

Hi all- Happy Sunday

Leigh- Re:furniture shopping- you might want to try Wickes furniture. As I remember about 4 or 5 yrs ago, the sales people were not stalking us when we went. maybe a couple of them came up to us, but then we said we were looking only, and they left us alone until we made our decision on our kitchen table and chairs. We bought a kitchen table and 4 chairs set there. The table is holding up pretty well and is getting used quite a lot. The chairs that came with the set are ok, We've had to replace a couple of them. And they replace for free within our 5yr warranty. I don't know if there is a Wickes by you, but I know there is one in Itasca (the one we went to).

I'll have to remember about Harlem Furn. and how stalky the sales people are ::yes:: There's a Harlem Furn. about a couple of miles from me.

Anyone bought furniture at Value City Furniture?? We were thinking of getting a couch set there, but not sure. Not sure of the quality. If anyone bought furniture at Value City, let me know how the quality is. TIA.

Tiggerrn- we have Uno Attack also. Had it maybe a yr now. We play sometimes. My kids love the cards spitting out from hte machine. I don't care for the cards spitting out that much. But my kids love the game :)

Hi to everyone :wave2:

Kinda wish the wave smilies were on the front page instead of the second pg, of smilies.

Another question for all of you: Anyone been to Hershey Amusement Park in Hershey, PA? Just wanted to know your experiences, if anyone has been there. I know the Hershey Amusement Park website, just wanted to know of any of our Chicago DISers have been there and experiences. Ok, I know it isn't Disney. TIA!

Leigh! go to bed!

:rotfl2: And what were you doing up at this hour DMM? I was actually up as well, but not on the computer-taking down the tree!!! Stayed at it til 3AM. Just too hard to do with six thousand interruptions throughout the day.
Roseprincess, my DSIL bought their living room furniture from Value City. When the initial set was delivered, it was flawed (leather) and they called to have the place bring another couch in it's place. Value City took a while, but my BIL is very persistent about getting what he pays for and they finally did make good and replaced it. The set seems very nice.
Never been to Hersey Park in PA, but have been to Cedar Rapids in OH. That park is great fun, although I think I'll wait til the kids are taller to go back so they can ride all the coasters.
But the beach is right there and there is the water park right next to it, and you can camp right in the park so it's not too expensive. Plus it's only a 5 hour drive from here.
Have a great Sunday everyone. DH and I are going to IKEA today to get the office and playroom furniture. FUN FUN FUN!!!

Ok, this is the third time I'm starting this reply. I'm getting kind of cranky. :furious: I keep doing things in other tabs/windows before I finish it, so I'm not going to do anything else before I finsh the post and maybe that will work. ::yes::

Leigh! go to bed!

Pot, kettle! :lmao:

I was still up for a while after that, though. :rolleyes1

Thanks for the word on Wickes. That's another one I want to go to, but I ran out of time yesterday.

I had wondered about Value City, too, but wasn't sure about the quality.

This is really rough, finding something that's good quality but not way expensive. And you don't exactly know what the quality will be to some extent until you have it for a while.

Leigh I'm not sure about what's on Ikea's website but go and visit their store. I don't know what style you are looking for. My neighbor has 2 very active kids and they bought from Ikea about 4 years ago everything has held up very well. I bought a chair from Wicks that is showing signes of wear. I have no active kids. Alex was never a climber or jumper. You just have to look at the seams and overall construction of each piece. It's kind of like a crap-shoot.

Good luck in the hunt.:thumbsup2

I'm kind of focusing on a bed right now. I want a solid headboard, not something with slats or bars, so that I can lean back against it. I would like some kind of a padded headboard, if possible. I'd rather not have a footboard, but that's not that big a deal. And I'd rather have dark wood than light wood. A lot of what was on Ikea seemed very light colored. I could go there and check it out, though. They have a store in Bolingbrook now that's close.

I looked at the Wickes site, and they didn't really have beds that matched what I'm looking for.

I think sofas will be easier. And I haven't even really looked into dining room very much yet. I'm not sure what the dimensions are, for one thing. It's a fairly small room, and I need to make sure it will fit. My bedroom, OTOH, should have plenty of room for whatever I pick out, esp. since I'm only getting a queen bed and not a king. And I definitely need a bed to sleep in! :goodvibes

sk8Leigh - you sure don't look like you need to be on a diet! :thumbsup2 But I know how you feel.. I've been the same weight for 2 years, which I've maintained after losing almost 60 pounds, but my pants are fitting a little tighter now, and though I'm ashamed to say what size I am, I really need to watch what I eat  I've been paying my monthly WW dues still for the past few years and when I recently logged my weight in, my daily point allowance went down. That can't be good :rotfl:

I made trip to IKEA in record time yesterday! I knew exactly what I wanted, so I was in and out in 15 mins! I had to be at a friends house and I was cutting it close, and I wasn't in the mood to dilly dally in IKEA so I managed to do it.

Remember my eye, thing though? I woke up with the swollen eye yesterday, so I finally took a Zyrtec. Worked great, but I was drowsy all day and when I got home from my friend's house at 8 last night, I was out. I slept until 10 this morning! :scared1:

sk8Leigh - you sure don't look like you need to be on a diet! :thumbsup2

Thanks. It's not like I need to lose a lot, but I should lose about 10 lbs. Like my friend said, 10 lbs on me is like 20 on someone else because I'm little. And the same friend is also trying to lose weight because her clothes are tight and she feels like a sausage! :rotfl2: (I know how she feels.)

Me, too. That's exactly what I'm aiming for. Maintaining weight off is a lot harder than losing it.

Good evening all. Jedi-glad to hear your eye is feeling better.
Leigh, DH and I were at IKEA today. Didn't look at beds much but they do have dark wood things. Seems most of the items are repeated in white, birch, beech, drk brown/black (they call it that), and some oak finish. We bought bookshelves. DH was putting them together tonight and one of the 3 was faulty and the veneer came off, so now have to box it back up and bring it back. They were sold out of the bookcases I wanted for the kids toyroom, so thankfully we won't have to make a special trip for the faulty bookcase. We went to the one in Bolingbrook. Not close for us. Takes about an hour to get there. DH will go from work so not such a long trip next time.
Sounds like we are going to get some snow this week. I've been perfectly happy here with the warmer weather (even if it did bring rain).
OK well, I'd better get my buns to bed. Kids back to school tomorrow. Back to the grind.
Sweet sleep everyone!!! Lights out!!!

Hello everyone! Quick fly-by!

KIM...when you have a chance to check in, let us know how Dancing with the Stars was! I hope you had a great time!

They danced all their 'bests', it lasted for-ever, it seemed but, it was Great!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2 We had several comments on how 'sparkly' WE were. :goodvibes It was a Great show, Great night.....Kelly was tired when it finally ended. ;) It started at 7:30, we got out about 10:15, got home about 10:45. Long, GREAT night!! We BOTH got t-shirts, too!!!:woohoo: Can't wait until next season!!! :cool1: :dance3: :woohoo: :cheer2:
