Chi Flatiron - gone down hill?

I have always loved Chi, but the quality seems to have gone way downhill. They used to last forever (3-5 years) now they seem to die as soon as the 1 year warranty is up.

Can anyone suggest a salon quality flat iron that lasts?

I have 2 Centrix flatirons that I have liked as much or more than any of the CHIs I have owned. I'm a hairdresser so I use a flatiron a lot. There are many more good brands out there nowadays. Years ago, it was all CHI. Those days are gone.

We have always used and liked a Chi too. I recently bought a Paul Mitchell and I think it is better.

I used to use a CHI and it lasted pretty long, but when it died, I bought a Cricket Centrix and I love it! It's a little pricey, though, I think I paid $120 for it. I don't know why but my hair looks more silky with the Centrix than when I used the CHI.

I had a stylist tell me Chi has gone downhill recently. I told him my 5-yr old Chi was still going strong, and he said "You got the last of the good ones. Hold onto it, but replace it with something else when it dies." But I don't remember what he told me to buy! :guilty:

I am going to try something new! I hate when things get popular and then they overproduce resulting in crap.

I've had my CHI about 5 years and its still going strong-- knock on wood.

If/when it dies I will get another salon quality straightener-- not sure what brand, my stylist recommended GHD a year or so ago but I'm not sure if they are still good. I use my every day so to me its worth the money to spend a $100 or more on a good flat iron.

I agree. My older CHI was awesome and lasted forever. I have had 2 in th elast year though, 1 died almost immediately and they replaced it, this one lasted until the warranty expired then stopped heating up. It is so annoying. I dont mind spending the money if it will last, there are just SO many on the market I dont know which to choose.

I have heard rave reviews about this GHD. Sephora has them and they have 5 star ratings online. I want to buy one myself, but they are $165. I am willing to pay that, if its really that good. Anyone have one?

I wish I saw this thread earlier. I just bought a Chi today for my DD's 13. My friend loaned me hers to try it out since she only uses it a few times a year now. We loved it and decided to buy one. We haven't even tried it yet. I hope it's as nice as the one we borrowed. I got it from Ulta, I hope they have a good return policy.
