Chgo area - Directtv issues - need help in deciding

Hey any Chicago area Directtv users. I am trying to decide if I should order Directtv. I have a couple of questions so here goes:

1. Does our weather affect the viewing? A thread I read says there are problems but no one was from our area. Does the snow/rain/ice cause problems?

2. What are the taxes on the bills? I couldn't find any thing on the website and their customer service was taking a long time to answer for new service.

A really bad snow or thunderstorm with lots of clouds will take out service - usually just for 20 minutes or so while the worst part happens. I think we usually experience this 3 or 4 times a year.

Now our Dish is attached to the side of our house. The first guy who installed my Mom's Dish put it up on her roof. It was also angled in such a manner that snow would collect on the Dish. Too much snow piled on, and her service would go out until somebody could get up there to wipe it away..... Climbing up on an icy roof to wipe snow off the satellite dish .... riggghhtttt

The second guy who came out to fix her installation was just that somebody thought it was a good idea to do that.

I'm not sure what our taxes are because that bill just pays automatically on my American Express Card and I usually don't even look at it. We have something like the plus package -- no HBO or anything like that plus local channels installed in 2 rooms. The monthly bill is around $45.

I have never seen snow affect the transmission, a few moments a year with severe rain storm (the big ones), and then only momentarily. It can be pouring and the picture is fine, then go out for a bit, very short time. I have not seen that happen in quite some time (maybe because we have had no rain, LOL). I looked at my statements online, the charges are quoted, inclusive of taxes. I see no add-on tax.
