cheyenne vs sequoia lodge?

It seems like the answer should be obvious based on the key rating, but I had it in my head we would be going to the Cheyenne. However after a slight change of plans there's only a £3 difference between the Cheyenne and a Montana room at the Sequoia Lodge.

Has anyone been to both and can compare?

How much closer to the parks is the Sequoia?

Will we actually have time to use the pool? (Does anyone know the pool opening times? And if they provide towels?)

etc.

Any opinions appreciated. I've looked at a few threads already on here about each hotel but I still can't decide.

We have stayed at both and liked them both.

Cheyenne has 1 double and a set of bunk beds whereas Sequoia has 2 double beds - this might be something which helps you decide

When are you going?

We used the pool most afternoons at Sequoia but were there mid summer so went in early for EMH- did a few hours in the park then back to the hotel for a rest and swim then back to the park again for a few hours.

Cheyenne IMHO is very well themed - a bonus if you have kids ; they will love the ambience and playground .
As the rooms are in different buildings - away from reception/ restaurant it might be a long walk , if you happen to be there in a grey RAINY Paris day !!!
The bar at Cheyenne is superb !!

Sequoia Lodge is my favorite,especially in Winter ; if you book a Montana room you just take the elevator (or walk a little bit) and can reach the 2 restaurants / reception/ lounge WITHOUT having to go outside in the rain / snow.
IMHO the restaurants here are better / great choice of dishes and deserts;
also breakfast is richer and well presented.

Walking to the parks took us about 15 minutes from Sequoia -
more then twenty from Cheyenne , but I do like to watch things and shop windows during the walk ...

You could also try and read the reviews on TripAdvisor ; they aren't "Disney nuts" and you could "discover" some details to help you in your decision ...

BOTH ARE DISNEY hotels ...aka WONDERFUL !!!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou for your reply. We're going in September, the end of the month, I think the parks are only open till 7ish then so I'm not sure if we'll want to return to the hotel during the day. Although we will be there for 4 pretty much whole days, so maybe we will want a break from walking around the parks.

It's only me and my daughter so bed arrangements aren't much of an issue.

We've stayed at both and definitely prefer the Cheyenne. That being said, the SL was definitely the right choice for us because of the time of year/closeness to the parks.

We preferred the Cheyenne because of the theming, the staff, the bunk beds, nicer atmosphere and it was a lovely walk to the parks in June. We only took the shuttle bus once as it was much nicer/easier just to walk. It was lovely that there were lots of different buildings and it never really felt overly busy (except one morning we were late for breakfast)

The SL breakfast was far better as you are seated at your table, so you don't have to worry about getting a seat (plus tables are cleaned and re-set each time someone leaves unlike Cheyenne). But the hotel/bar/reception areas were always extremely busy. The bar so much so, we could rarely get in, never mind find a seat.

If we were going at a cold time of year again, I think we'd opt for SL, but any other time the Cheyenne would win hands down.

The Cheyenne is probably about an extra 5 minutes from the park.

Another thing to note, we went for a Montana room so that we could have a drink in the bar at night and not have to go back out in the cold to get to our room. As it happened our room was one of the furthest from the bar if you walked through the hotel, but if you went outside one door and came back in another it was much quicker, so we always went back outside anyway (even in the snow)

Anyway, hope this helps a little, but whatever you choose I'm sure it'll be great as they're both fab hotels.

Thankyou Laura. Does the Sequoia have a children's outdoor play area? It says on the DLRP website it does, but I'm sure I read on the review thread on here it doesn't.

I think I might be edging towards the Sequoia...it's the price reduction, I can't resist a bargain.

I think the slightly closer proximity to the park, and not having to go outside to get back to our room are good points for the Sequoia as well, I know its only September so it won't be completely freezing, but it's extra walking for my daughter as well isn't it, and she's quite little still.

Forgot to say, in the 6 days we were at SL we didn't use the pool, but it was sub zero temperatures so don't know if that had something to do with it .

I think there was a very small play area next to the swimming pool

I seem to remember at SL an outdoor play area with slide and sandpit in beautiful gardens ... there was even a waterfall... if memory serves me right.
The hotel pool is great ... my friend's kids loved it ... and us adults too !!

I take it with the cheynne you have to walk outside to get to breakfast, shop, play area also? Does the room have a phone to call reception to save you braving the cold?

One more question for anyone thats stayed there, are the rooms clean? Espcially the bathroom, towels and bedlinen?

YES, you have to walk outside to get breakfast and everything .
YES, you can call reception ... though we found it always busy, so husband had to walk there to book our meals ...

SURELY !!!! It was sparkling clean when we visited !!

IT's a LOVELY hotel - if you don't mind IMHO a little extra walking . It's magic walking down across a "real" main road of a western town ... with post office , jail, sheriff office etc.

The Cheyenne is a fab hotel. Not sure who you are travelling with but the only reason I said further up that we preferred SL due to the weather was because we have 3 kids (youngest only 1). If it had just been me and OH or even us and the older kids we'd have preferred the Cheyenne.

Yes you have to go outside to get to the different areas, but unless you paid extra for a Montana room, there's no guarantee you wouldn't have to do that at SL.

Phone question's already been answered and we never used it so can't add anything there.

Our room was immaculate. Clean towels and bedding etc every day

Have I convinced you you've made the right choice yet?
