Chewy Shipping?

I was finally tempted to order from Chewy (pet supplies) -- 20 percent off with an autoship -- plus their price before the 20 percent was pretty much rockbottom.

However, the order was shipped FedEx Home Delivery (I had it shipped to my office).

It took an extra two days because of the usual FedEx Home Delivery excuses (no one answered the door at 1 p.m. on a Tuesday -- remember was to my office).

Anyway, I actually would have just kept the Chewy Autoship going, but I did not realize at the time they were using FedEx Home.

Any experiences with Chewy, Chewy Autoship....and FedEx Home Delivery?

I've been using Chewy for about a year and just went to autoship last month because I was pretty much ordering the same each month.

My orders are shipped to my home and left at my front door. No one knocks and no signature is required.

I haven't had any problems so far, other than finding some extra items in my box on one delivery - a couple of 12 packs of fancy feast broths - the cats loved them.

From ship date to delivery is usually two days.

My male cat needs urinary tract food and it's not always easy to find. At Chewy it is about 60 cents a can (Pro Plan) versus 96 cents at PetSmart. So it is both cheaper and more convenient.

When they transfer it over to my post office, the package takes anywhere from 2-10 days longer. I hate it.

Chewy was excellent until I had a problem. They completely ignored me, so I cancelled my recurrent order and took my business elsewhere. You'll get overwhelmingly positive responses about them because they're great until you have a problem.

I'm going to stop doing business with companies that ship via this method because my local PO always has issues. Has for years.

I wonder if this is location dependent. I have chewy autoship and it shows up directly at my door in 2 days. They just leave it there.

I've been using Chewy autoship for several years. Never had a problem and it's always at my door 2 days after the shipment date.

What you're describing is not FedEx Home delivery. You're describing "smartpost." I've never known Chewy to use smartpost. My deliveries have always been made my an actual FedEx truck.

Yes, the various SmartPost, SmartMail services are usually problematic.

But, as Supersnoop said, this order was sent via FedEx Home Delivery. I got it in seven days -- including the extra two days tacked on by the Home Delivery guy who obviously lied about the attempted delivery -- and then -- after the allegedly "attempted delivery" -- which I know they did not -- why did they not redeliver the following day?

Remember, the delivery site was my office, on a major boulevard, downtown, open Monday through Friday, from 8-5 p.m.

Ranger - I'd call Chewy and ask about the shipping method. Does free shipping apply to auto-ship order >$49 and is your order above that threshold? My understanding is orders <$49 may use a different shipping method than >$49. But I'm not sure how auto-ship fits into that scheme. I don't use auto ship but do order at least monthly (2 dogs, different food) and each order is >$49 so free shipping. Chewy ALWAYS ships it "regular" Fed Ex to my home, and with rare exceptions I get it the next day.

FWIW, I've had excellent customer service from Chewy when things went wrong.

ETA: Have you identified your delivery address as a business to Chewy? You might need to do that so they know the delivery needs to be made during normal business hours 8-5. That should get you away from Home Delivery too.....

I alternate between using Chewy and PetFlow and don't have any issues with FedEx Home Delivery. It is usually slower than UPS but other than that, I have no problem with it. They just ring the doorbell and leave the box on the porch.

Chewy is great I order from chewy about twice a month. Packages come usually in 2 days. One time it was only 1 day another time three days.

Chewy is great, but the cat litter that I use has almost doubled in price over the last 6 months. I would periodically check the pricing on your auto-ship items.

I love Chewy. My orders come from FedEx and are at my door when I get home from work. Have had 2 incidences where the dog food cans were damaged - called them up and they were replaced immediately. Also had a bag of dog food that was cut and opened inside the box - Chewy replaced the entire 25lb bag!!

I used/Friend uses both without issues. She did have problem and it was resolved quickly and to her acceptance.

Excellent customer service and shipping with Chewy. I don't think it's ever taken more than two days to receive anything from them, even if I place an order late in the afternoon. Always left at my front door.

I'd call Chewy and ask them what's going on. I'd definitely question FedEx Home delivery. I don't really even know what that is, but since you're getting it at an office, it seems like the wrong way for them to ship it. Maybe it was a mistake, and maybe they need to recode your delivery in their system or something.

I am in CT, and they are in Pennsylvania. I don't do auto ship, but I always make sure my order is more than $50. I almost always get it the next day if I order it before 2 or 3PM M-Th. Only rarely have I gotten it in two days.

I'm a huge fan of Chewy. I've been doing auto ship for a couple of years now, and my orders always show up in 1 to 2 days at the most. Here was the tracking from my last one:

I've only had a problem once. FedEx tracking said the package was delivered but I didn't have it. I called Chewy and they sent out a new order right away free of charge.

How are the prices for Chewy since they were bought out by PetSmart? I've been looking into getting my dog's prescription food here, instead of at Petsmart and worried about the pricing since the buy out...

I have been using Chewy for a couple of years. Love them, never have had a problem with auto ship, usually arrives in 2 days sometime 1. I have found their customer service great. I once ordered a dog crate and it wasn't shipped on time for our vacation which I needed to bring to the dog sitters. They shipped another one over night to the dog sitters and told me to keep the one that was shipped to my house free of charge.
