Cheryl's WISH Journal (comments welcome)

hey cheryl, you asked me a question in my journal, and i kind of answered it there, but i'd also like to do it here, in case it got buried in my post.

about the half marathon - i'll be running it. can't wait! and about your hurting shins - it's definitely normal to have some pain when you start running. my best suggestion would be to make sure you stretch well after your run. also, the advice that i remember getting after the first time i ever ran in high school. my quads were absolutely killing me! and a couple guys on the team just told me, keep running. not like right then, but ya know, the next day or the day after. after a few times, the pain will go away. amazing how quickly our bodies adapt. so i hope you dind't give up on the jogging. just stretch it out, and keep running :)

yay for 3 day bears! are you doing to make it to 4? i hope so ::yes:: . i'm about to go change my bear to 4 after i make it to some more journals :)

have a great evening and day tomorrow :bounce:

Cheryl, you hit the big 4-0 before I did (mine was in Feb.) - a belated happy birthday!!

Protein bars travel well. Protein shakes are good, but you may want to fill up that ice bucket the night before and let the shake chill overnight (I like mine cold!). You can also take the individual pop-top cans of tuna (don't forget the plastic forks!) and individual packets of peanuts or sunflower seeds. Breakfast is definitely the toughest meal to do on the road! However, a little protein will carry you into lunch and then you'll be just fine! I hope you have a blast with your girlfriends later this month!

Make it a great day! :sunny:

Yep Pam I'm 40 already and I don't really remeber if you missed it or not (see I'm going senile already:eek: LOL). Don't worry about it if you missed it. I don't think I was doing very well with my journaling at that time so that's probalbly why it's not in there. I am going with my girlfriends to Schaumburg, IL the weekend of March 19. Schaumburg is a suburb of Chicago and there is an IKEA store there and Woodfield Mall which is supposed to be very nice. One of the other girls (we are still girls right, even though wer'e all 40ish, ladies sound "old" to me ;) turned 40 in Jan. also and one has her 40th birthday in April and the other in May. A friend at work gave me the idea of getting away for the big 4-0. When she and some of her friends turned 40 a few years ago they went to Las Vegas. Well we're not doing it up so big, but this is less than a 2 hour drive away so we can all get our kids off to school Friday morning and then be on our way for a nice weekend spent among friends :D . I am really looking forward to it!

Marcia, thanks for the tips about continuing jogging. I have been doing some reading on the RunnersWorld website which has alot of good info for beginner runners. I actually printed some info on stretching too. I have been doing some stretching after I walk or jog but probably not enough so I'll increase that today after I do my walk/jog on the treadmill (too rainy and windy to go outside today). My older brother is a big runner, he even ran in the Boston Marathon a few times years ago, and he has been trying to give me tips also. Any help I can get with training for the 1/2 marathon I can get is greatly appreciated! You are running it, that's great! I originally thought I would just walk but now I am thinking that if I keep up with I should hopefully be able to do it as a walk/jog/(run?). I hope my friend and her son that are coming along with me will start doing some training soon too so that hopefully the 3 of us can keep the same pace.

Doe, Happy Belated Birthday to you too! I really don't feel any different being 40. How about you? Some people I know really had a hard time turning 40. I am bound and determined to make this a great year. I AM going to make my goal weight (I only have 15 pounds to go) while I'm 40 and I'm going to stick with exercising once and for all. The 1/2 marathon has been great motivation for me! And I'm going to participate in the WDW 1/2 marathon for the first time while I'm 40 (I'll be just 10 days short of 41 ;) Are you walking or running the 1/2 marathon?
When I go away with my girlfriends we are staying at a Springhill Suites so we will have a microwave and refrigerator in the room! That will be great for keeping the shakes cold and I can take along some cheese and sausage type things to snack on too, maybe I'll even take some hard boiled eggs. Thanks for all the other great suggetions too!

Have a great day everyone! :sunny:

I did a warmup walk for the first 10 min., then 45 min. of jogging for 1 min. and then walking for 4 min., and then a 5 min. cool down followed with some stretching. I have big time PMS today and have been hungry and craving chocolate big time so I guess all in all even though when I look back at what I've eaten it could have been a lot worse. At least everything was low carb, I just feel like I might have relied to heavily on the store bought low carb products today instead of eating more cheese or eggs or something. Seeing how everything I ate was low carb products I'm going to let myself add to my cheat free bear.

March 7, 2004

Breakfast scrambled eggs with sour cream, salsa and cheese

Snack Coffee with cream and Splenda

Evercise 60 min walk/jog on the treadmill again. Today I warmed up for 9 minutes and then alternated 1.5 minutes of jogging with 3.5 minutes of walking for 45 min. and then cooled down with 5 min of walking. 60 min, 3.59 miles, 317 cal

Lunch DH and I went to see the movie The Passion (I still have a headache and sore eyes from all the crying I did, what a powerful movie) and I didn't have time for lunch before we left so I grabbed an Atkins Advantage Mocha Crunch bar and ate that. I really WANTED popcorn but I din't give in!

Snack Hood low carb yogurt

Dinner We were out running errands after picking up DD after the movie so we stopped at Perkins for dinner. Had the Everything Omlet and coffee with half and half and Splenda (I carry packets in my purse;) ) I LOVE Perkins muffins and DD wanted the blueberrye one and I was tempted to split it with her but the waitress didn't bring it before the rest of the meal like they usually do so I ate my omlet and then decided I wasn't very hungry anymore so why blow it on a muffin that is LOADED with carbs so I didn't even try it! DD had a bite and she said it wasn't very good so I'm glad I didn't blow it and eat it. When I got home I decide to make some Atkins muffins.

Snack 2 Atkins muffins with butter(1 chocolate chocolate chip and 1 cranberry orange)

I am proud of myself, I didn't give in to BIG temptations twice today!

Cheryl, you are doing such a great job staying on plan through PMS (a bunch of us call it the d-zone for danger zone!). I'll need to stay on plan & my d-zone will be upon me any day now so you will be my inspiration!! Good for you for avoiding temptation!!

In my journal, you asked about my Pilates workout. I think Pilates or yoga would be great as part of your training for the half-marathon. Pilates incorporates a lot of stretching with ab work. I'm going to walk the half, I think. Running seems to stress my knees too much.

Hang in there, Cheryl!! You'll be through that icky PMS soon! :sunny:

I am so proud of you how you resisted temptation and worked on exercising so much. WooooHooooo! You go girl.

Did you have a good weekend?? Are you making plans for your "girl" weekend? DH and I need to make plans for our anniversary coming up. May 25 will be here before you know it. Maybe we will just go to a hotel nearby and go shopping for the day or the movies. It will be fun just to be alone with him and not have to share him. :)
