Cheques for on board credit

Good morning,

We loved our first cruise but to be honest, the conversion from US$ to CAN$ was very hard on our wallet... We are currently saving the money for our next cruise (we already paid the deposit + a little amount) ... part of it in CAN$ and the rest in a US$ account.

The problem is: if I change US$ in $CAN, I still lose money (maybe 10 cents for each $).

The best way to use my US account (and keep the same currency) is to get the cash out, or make a cheque.

Can you send a cheque to Disney Cruise Line (to be applied to your on board credit)?

Can you find a credit card with no international transaction fee? That's what we use when we travel. You can write a personal check and have it cashed (not sure about a foreign check) but it's fairly limited. I want to say it's only like $100. They will cash travelers checks, but I'm guessing they will still charge you the exchange rate.

Is your $US account at a Canadian institution? If so, they will likely be able to set up a single authorized direct payment to pay your cruise. Call your bank and tell them that you want to make a direct payment from your $US account to a specific payee. They should be able to set it up. If you have used a Travel Agent to make your arrangements, get the payment details from that person, explaining that there will be a direct payment from your bank (Payee, reservation number etc) .

Being in the UK I have the same issue but I have a USA credit card to pay DCL and avoid loosing on exchange rates.

Now if you booked by a TA then any cheque will go via them, DCL on ships take small cheques so I can't see why they can't take one off you but you would need to allow time for it to clear.

I am honestly thinking about getting a US credit card. They offered it to me and I always said no. Having a change of heart.
