My sis inlaw has just started treament for cancer colon and overy , has port in started one chemo session and now she had pain in her neck and they sent her to hosp . they found blood clot in neck and another mass on her lungs ? is this common? we are all so worried

I don't think it is common, but it doesn't mean that it is not treatable. I am sure the doctors are giving your DSIL the attention she needs. Sending good thoughts your way. Hang in there. :paw:

It's not common, but it can happen, especially when you have a port. That's why nurses are usually very careful to flush with Heparin before de-accessing a port. Did she just get her port? Blood clots are always a risk in surgery. I hope everything turns out ok.

After one chemo treatment for breast cancer my best friend had three blood clots in her leg. She had to have a shot of anti-coagulant twice a day. She just recently was allowed to reduce that to once a day. She told me (repeating what her doctor told her) about 4% of the chemotherapy population may encounter blood clots. Her response: 4% of the population win the lottery - why couldn't I be in that 4%????

I'm sure it matters what type of chemo etc.... but it has happened in the past. The best thing is to get to the doctor and stay on top of it. Hope all turns out ok.

My mother had a blood clot in her legs 3 or 4 times while undergoing chemo.
